Darkness calls in this eerie The Luring trailer

Does pure evil enjoy watching the innocent be manipulated? That's the theme behind the new film The Luring from writer/director Christopher Wells. The psychological horror tale is set to hit DVD and Digital next month, and we've scored the trailer for your eye holes. What's The Luring about? Check it: "A man tries to recover a lost memory by returning to his family's Vermont vacation home where an unspeakable act took place, leaving him institutionalized as a child." Now for the trailer: Rick Irwin, Dan Berkey, Molly Fahey, Henry Gagliardi and Michaela Sprague star. The Luring drops June 16 from Wild Eye Releasing. Source: The Luring

The Assent trailer promises an extraordinary possession tale

Hey, who doesn't like a good 'ole fashioned demonic-possession movie. Not a question, a statement. And we're all about those kinds of flicks here in The Basement. Much like The Exorcist, director Pearry Reginald Teo's film focuses on a youngster who may be possessed by "no ordinary demon," which makes me wonder what an ordinary demon is in the first place. That fact aside, this looks like it has some slick visuals and jolts aplenty. Not a bad start! Take a look: The Assent stars Robert Kazinsky, Peter Jason, Florence Faivre and Hannah Ward. It hits limited theatres this Friday. Source: VVS Films

Meet The New Mutants in this new trailer

The New Mutants was supposed to come out two years ago. Rumour has it there were going to be reshoots, but it turns out the delay was a result of Disney acquiring 20th Century Fox. Now, the Mouse House is ready to unleash director Josh Boone's take on the Marvel-mutant property. The New Mutants is intended to be a horror film set in The X-Men universe. A ballsy move for Fox when they were behind the project, but a smart way for Disney to promote it. This feels different than the MCU movies, and could be a fun take on the super-hero genre. Observe: The New Mutants stars Anya-Taylor Joy, Charlie Heaton and Alice Braga. It hits theatres April 3. Source: 20th Century Fox

Check out this grim Gretel & Hansel trailer

The Grimm's Fairy Tale Hansel & Gretel is a dark one. But this upcoming film adaptation, Gretel & Hansel, looks to take things even darker. Yes, the story is the same, but director Osgood Perkins has ramped up the moody atmosphere and fright factor. And he's cast the Borg Queen herself -- Alice Krige -- as the evil witch who wants to eat Gretel and Hansel. I could go on, but pictures are worth a thousand words: Gretel and Hansel also stars Sophia Lillis (It), Sammy Leakey and Jessica De Gouw. It hits theatres Jan. 31. Source: Arrow in the Head

Tenet trailer takes us into a mind-bending afterlife

OK, so I think writer/director Christopher Nolan's latest effort has something to do with life, death, the afterlife, and a fight to save the world. At least that's what I get from this cryptic -- and mind blowing -- trailer. With Nolan, you never really know what his film's are about until you watch them, efforts like The Dark Night Trilogy and Dunkirk aside. And that's what I love about the man's work. That and he does as much in-camera as humanly possible. So I'm not gonna say anything more, and will let you observe, and digest, as you see fit. Enjoy! Tenet stars John David Washington, Robert Pattinson, Michael Cain and Elizabeth Debicki. And it takes over theatres, and likely our minds, July 17. Source: Warner Bros.

Inner Ghosts will haunt audiences in January

Shawn and I are big on the paranormal; so much so we're launching a new podcast next month exploring the subject with the help of Vancouver Paranormal Society president Peter Renn, a man with more than 20-years experience in the field. Shameless plug! But back to the business of movies. The upcoming flick, Inner Ghosts, looks pretty damn interesting. And creepy! That's a winning combination for a horror movie. If ghosts can think and remember who they are, then the physical brain is not the only place where we store our inner selves. Helen, a former medium, is asked to train two young women in the art of communicating with the dead. But things take a dark turn when a visit from the other side offers her the design for a device that can do amazing things... Take a boo at this trailer. Get it? Boo! Right... Celia Williams, Elizabeth Bochmann, and Iris Cayatte star in writer/director Paula Leite's tale. It hits DVD and Digital Jan. 7. Source: Uncork'd E...

Triple Threat star and director re-team for The Mercenary

Triple Threat is a great action picture . Probably one of the best of the year. It's an old-school kick 'em up featuring a lot of talented mofos. If you haven't seen it, get on it! Now director Jesse V. Johnson is at it again, and he's wrangled Triple Threat co-star Dominiquie Vandenberg to help him. The flick is called The Mercenary, and a lot of people get punched in the face... and a lot of stuff blows up. Suffice to say, Shawn is happy. Here's the trailer: Yes, this doesn't look like anything we haven't seen before. But it's a tried and true story, and Johnson knows how to handle action. We're on board here in The Basement, and you should be too! The Mercenary also stars Louis Mandylor and Carmen Argenziano. It hits DVD and Digital Jan. 7. Source: Uncork'd Entertainment

Behold, the Wonder Woman 1984 trailer

Wonder Woman was pretty much the first successful instalment for the DCEU. I'm not talking from a strictly commercial standpoint, but as a film people genuinely loved. And yes, it made a ton of dough, so no surprise we'd get a sequel. Anticipation has been pretty hot for Wonder Woman 1984, which brings the Amazon into... well... the 80s, and pits her against arch rival The Cheetah. The first trailer dropped minutes ago at CCXP in Brazil, and we decided to share it with you. Now watch: Looks great! No sense of story yet, but that's fine. Given the quality of the first, I'm sure this will at least be as good. Wonder Woman 1984 lands June 5, 2020. Source: Warner Bros.

Nightcrawler meets Se7en in Blood Hound

Leave it to High Octane Pictures to come up with some of the best mashup ideas, even if they aren't 100-per-cent successful. The latest is Blood Hound, a P.I. thriller from the producer of Adam Green's Frozen and Hatchet II. It looks like it employs the documentary approach of Nightcrawler, the serial killer aspect of Se7en, and then puts a spin on it. Although there's the usual low budget, the acting in this trailer impressed me a bit. Observe: Private investigator Abel Walker, along with his cameraman Jim, are on the hunt for a missing woman. As they unravel the mystery of her disappearance, they become caught in a sick and violent game that will end in murder. Jason R. Miller wrote and directed this one. Ed Ackerman, David Foy, Miles Dougal and Silvia Moore star. Blood Hound premiers on DVD and Digital Jan. 7, 2020. Source: High Octane Pictures

Rock'n roll slasher Captured drops in January

We love our movies, we love our horror, and we love our music here in The Basement. Shawn composes music for movies, and is part of two metal bands. Me, I just know what I like to hear, and what I like to hear is heavy metal. So the upcoming slasher flick Captured is not without interest. Sure, it looks like a low-budget horror movie with all the slasher tropes, but something about it feels right; like there's more going on beneath the surface. What's it about? A weekend getaway to shoot a music video turns into a nightmare for a rock'n roll band when they become the obsession of an escaped convict who is purposefully targeting the female lead singer. Take a look: Kirsten Prout, Brittany Curran and Jasper Cole star. Captured is directed by first time Argentinian director Joe Arias. The flick comes out Jan. 1, 2020. Escape the creature in these three Crypsis clips

A camping trip goes horribly wrong in the upcoming creature-feature Crypsis from Uncork'd Entertainment. And the world gets to witness it just in time for the holiday season. Can't wait? That's OK, as we've scored three -- count 'em three -- clips from writer/director Paul Anthony Rogers' unnerving flick. Why? Because three time's the charm, that's why. Predator Cave Run! A group of friends make a bet to survive the night on an island. Unbeknownst to them, a mysterious creature begins hunting them. What began as an innocent bet quickly turns into a fight for survival. Rogers co-stars alongside Michael Armata, Anthony Hoang, Jordan Mitchell-Love and Eddie Nason. Crypsis hits DVD and On Demand Dec. 17. Source: Uncork'd Entertainment

Bond has No Time to Die in a wild new trailer

We teased it, and now we get to reveal it to the masses. The full trailer for No Time to Die is here, and it's a thing of visceral beauty. When we last left Bond... James Bond... he'd quit the spy game and retired with his lady love. That was five years ago, and a lot has changed. Now 007 is called back into service to face a new threat in the form of Oscar winner Rami Malek, and trade barbs with a mysterious 00. I could say more, but pictures work better than words any day... This. Looks. Awesome. If this is truly Daniel Craig's last ride as Bond, it looks like he'll go out on an action-packed note. We'll find out for sure when No Time to Die hits theatres April 8, 2020. Also, I need to get me a vehicle with gatling guns behind the headlights... Source: James Bond

Small Town Monsters go On the Trail of UFOs in January

Small Town Monsters rule! There's a lot of paranormal documentarians out there, but these guys are the real deal. They've made a dozen documentaries tracking everything from Mothman to Bigfoot, and have at least three more films on the way. Their latest, On the Trail of UFOs, just landed a trailer. Much like On the Trail of Bigfoot, this is an in-depth look at the current state of the UFO phenomena in series form. Seth Breedlove, the mastermind behind Small Town Monsters, promises this is the most comprehensive look at the subject yet. Behold: Seth recently signed a deal with Adam Wingard (Godzilla vs. Kong, The Guest, Blair Witch) to develop concepts for new projects, with an eye toward production in 2020. His last foray into episodic documentaries was 2019's On the Trail of Bigfoot, and it became an Amazon best-seller with more than four million views. It's very good, by the way. We interviewed Seth earlier this year , and he's an interesting dude. W...

Get your Blood Bags today!

We try to find a balance here in The Basement between covering off the big Hollywood flicks and lower budget, indie fare. It only seems fitting as Shawn and I find much to appreciate in both. So after highlighting the awesome new Black Widow trailer earlier today, I figured it best to showcase a low-budget slasher that's hitting VOD today from High Octane Pictures. Blood Bags (great title) is about two friends who break into an abandoned mansion and discover all exits have been sealed off. Why? Because there's a creature inside, and it's hungry for blood! Observe the trailer: Emiliano Ranzani directs this one. Makenna Guyler, Emanuele Turetta and Marta Tananyan star. And it's out right now on DVD and Digital. What do yah think? This one to check out or not? Source: High Octane Pictures

Black Widow trailer promises an MCU espionage extravaganza

If audiences truly want a strong female lead, they need look no further than Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow. The character has been kicking ass with the best of them in Marvel Comics since the 60s, and she came fully into the public consciousness with Iron Man 2 back in 2010. Although she met a heroic end in Avengers: Endgame, there's still lots to explore from the character's past, and that's exactly what the upcoming Black Widow movie is going to do. Yes, it's a prequel, and it looks pretty damn awesome. Check out the trailer now: I am so sold on this! Some complain the MCU movies have a formula, but it's that formula that is appealing to fans. They're all similar enough to deliver the goods, but different enough to remain engaging. Cinema or not, they work. And I'm looking forward to seeing this one come May 1. Who wants to bet Black Widow makes more in its first showing than the entire run of the Charlie's Angels reboot? Source...

No Time to Die gets teased

Remember when there were just movie trailers? One trailer. About three months before the movie came out. That's it. Now there's multiple trailers and even teasers for the trailer itself. It's a surprise we haven't seen the movie by the time it actually comes out. That being said, I proudly present this teaser for the upcoming James Bond flick No Time to Die. The trailer actually comes out on Wednesday, but they've teased it here. And like I sucker I watched it, and share it with you now: This is Daniel Craig's final bow as 007, at least as of this writing. Given he's my favourite Bond since Sean Connery, I find this upcoming entry in the series -- the 25th in total -- to be a big event. Hopefully No Time to Die is better than Spectre. If it could be Skyfall good, I'd be happy. No Time to Die opens April 8, 2020. Source: James Bond

Australian horror hit Lost Gully Road hits North America in December

The Aussies have a proud horror tradition with flicks like Razorback, Wolf Creek, Rogue and The Loved Ones. Now there's a new critically acclaimed movie from the Land Down Under that's ready to spook North American audiences, and it's called Lost Gully Road. Donna McRae's film is very much in the tradition of The Babadock and Lake Mungo, and tells the story of Lucy, a directionless young woman who travels to a secluded cottage to wait for her sister. With no TV and no communication with the outside world, she spend her days alone and drinking to pass the time. That is, until her unexpected host decides to keep her company... Check out the trailer, bitches! Adele Perovic, Jane Clifton and John Brumpton star. That creepy score you heard in the preview is by Clare Moore and Dave Graney. Lost Gully Road hits DVD and Digital Dec. 3. What do yah think? Gonna check it out? Source: Wild Eye Releasing

Survival/horror Break headed for North American release

I don't do heights, and I don't do confined spaces, which makes the Russian survival/horror flick Break seem like an appealing one. Why? Facing your fears vicariously etcetera and so forth. The concept is like Frozen (not the cartoon) taken to new, ummm, heights. A group of friends are headed for an unforgettable New Year's Eve party atop a moment when their funicular stalls mid journey. Realizing help is not coming, the group starts their deadly fight with the cold, heights, and eventually each other. Check out the trailer: This looks decent, and could provide some moments of tension and Lord of the Flies-like conflict. And you know, that whole heights/claustrophobia thing. The trailer for Tigran Sahakyan's film appeared on Arrow in the Head today, so we're assuming this flick, which opened in Russia earlier this year, is headed our way. We'll keep you posted as we learn more. Source: Arrow in the Head

Cult classic Plaguers comes to Blu-ray and DVD

Not gonna lie, I'd never heard of the 2009 sci-fi/horror hybrid Plaguers until a PR firm hit us with an email announcing the cult classic's release on Blu-ray and DVD. But yes, Brad Sykes' film is on disc for the first time thanks to the folks at Wild Eye Releasing. I'm sure fans are pretty excited. This 10th Anniversary Edition includes audio commentary and a previously unseen Q&A involving the cast, which includes genre legend Steve Railsback. Check it out... the trailer that is: When an alien contagion is released aboard a spaceship, transforming its victims into demonic flesh eaters, the crew must destroy the infected or join them. Looks and sounds like fun. Might have to hits this one up now that it's out on disc and digital Source: Wild Eye Releasing

Mission: Impossible/Guardians of the Galaxy star crosses 5 Galaxies

Horror anthologies are all the rage, but what about science fiction? When people think sci-fi anthologies they automatically think The Twilight Zone and Outer Limits, but the makers of the new film 5 Galaxies hope to change that. And they've recruited Pom Klementieff (Mantis from Guardians of the Galaxy, and soon to be Tom Cruise's sidekick in the next two Mission: Impossible movies) to bring butts into seats when the film hits in December. 5 Galaxies tells five stories (duh) that cover everything from love found in a time of overpopulation to space travel and exploration of the unknown. And, judging from the trailer below, it's a pretty ambitious project for a low-budget effort. Check it: Looks pretty decent if you ask me, which I know you didn't, but tough. I said it anyway. 5 Galaxies features the work of filmmakers Nelson Lee, Kristen Hilkert, Amir Reichart, Vitaly Verlov and Marc-Henri Boulier. It hits DVD and Digital Dec. 10. Source: Uncork'...
