Uwe Boll returns with Anger

Anger of the Dead that is. And the schlockmeister isn't lending his directorial chops to this, the latest foray in a seemingly never-ending slew of zombie everything. Remember when vampires were all the rage? Me too. Now it's zombies. Even my kid is into zombies, which isn't a bad thing for a four year old to be into I guess. But I'm digressing.

Labour of love Shockwave Darkside hits VOD in January

Having dabbled in the film industry alongside my bro John Fallon these last three years, I've come to realize just how big a hurdle it is to get a project off the ground and onto a screen somewhere. The effort can take years, and even then there is no guarantee of success. So we in The Basement applaud writer/director Jay Weisman for getting his sci-fi flick Shockwave Darkside into the hands of distributor Uncork'd Entertainment for a Jan. 5 VOD release. It took the man 10 years to complete his special-effects laden adventure, so Good, Bad or Ugly, our hats are off to you sir.

The Netflix Top 5 and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

Those pretentious bastards and bastardette are back with more podcast goodness designed to pleasure your ear holes. This time Jason, Shawn and Amy are fulfilling a fan's request to break down what the Basement Dwellers consider the best of the best on U.S. and Canadian Netflix. That's right, between Canucks Jason and Shawn, and transplanted Canuck Amy down in the Good ole U.S. of U., the crew feel they've got a pretty good handle on what's worth watching on the popular streaming service. This is the first of what could become a monthly-ish instalment on the show. Because, with so many TV shows, docs and movies to choose from -- and programming added all the time -- there's certainly more than five things worth watching. What do the Terrible Trio go with this go around? Stick with us! Plus, a hardcore Superman fan like Shawn, and comic-book expert like Amy, aren't going to let the drop of the much anticipated Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice trailer g...

Ten questions with Infernal director Bryan Coyne

The demonic kid template is dusted off again for this week’s Infernal – screening at the Arena Cinema in L.A, and On Demand – but it’s doused in a truly original, effective style. We quizzed Bryan Coyne, the said film’s helmer, on everything that goes bump in the night.

The first four minutes of Summer of Blood don't suck

Nope. Onur Tukel's vampire comedy Summer of Blood actually looks funny. Like if Woody Allen made a horror movie. Only better, 'cause I'm not much a Woody Allen fan to tell the truth. I'll wait for you pretentious types to send some hate email our way. But hurry. The clock is running down.

Interview: Sledge director Kristian Hanson

Sledge is a horror/comedy that's getting a lot of good buzz on the indie circuit. It's a spoof where the psychopathic killer not only believes he's living a movie or video game, but that he's the star of the story. The flick hit  VOD earlier this month and lands on DVD Oct. 7. The Basement took a few minutes to engage writer/director Kristian Hanson in a Q&A about the movie and how it came to be.

Head's up, it's a new Dead Snow: Red vs Dead poster

Oh yes please! We've talked loud and long about the upcoming sequel to Tommy Wirkola 's bloody awesome Dead Snow . So much so that I (almost) tire at revealing little tidbits about the flick and just want to see the damn movie already. Alas, we have to wait until next month before Dead Snow: Red vs Dead hits VOD and limited theatres. In the meantime, we have a groovy new poster for your eye holes.

The Pact 2 trailer delivers

OK, I admit I didn't have high hopes for The Pact 2, given the first flick was one of the finest, self-contained horror movies I've seen in a long time. But I'm beginning to change my tune now that I've seen the trailer for Patrick Horvath's sequel. We don't apologize in The Basement, but we do admit we're wrong on rare occasions.

The Evil Within play some Mine Games

Horror fans who went looking for a copy of The Evil Within earlier this month were likely a little disappointed when Richard Gray's flick didn't turn up on VOD , DVD and Blu-ray as planned. But fear not, fright flick geeks, the movie is still headed our way, albeit not until September. And it's reverted back to its original title.

Blood Widow, Axeman and the Joston Theney interview

Blood Widow? Axeman? Joston Theney? WTF? Relax, Basementites. You haven't been living under a rock. This episode is dedicated to a couple of under-the-radar slasher flicks and the man who directed one of them. Joston Theney directed Axeman, which hit the home market earlier this month. Blood Widow just appeared at Cannes and hits VOD , DVD , and Blu-ray June 3. Jason and Shawn have seen them both, and are ready to put the flicks on the chopping block.

It's feeding time in this All Cheerleaders Die clip

Seems like it's taking forever for Lucky McKee and Chris Sivertson 's All Cheerleaders Die to get released. But the hot-chick fest is finally due to hit VOD on May 8 and theatres June 13. To celebrate, RLJ/Image Entertainment has released this weird, and kinda gruesome, clip that gives a taste of what audiences can expect from this tale of revenge, dark secrets and boobs. Wanna check it out? Course you do.

The U.S. trailer for Steve Coogan's Alan Partridge

My wife actually stumbled across this preview for the British comedy Alan Partridge , which is based on a popular British TV series starring comedian Steve Coogan . In Britain. The flick is ready to debut stateside on VOD Feb. 27, so Magnolia Pictures crafted this rather hilarious trailer to introduce the character to North American audience. In my opinion, having never watched the BBC series, it's pretty damn successful.

The Knights of Badassdom are coming in February

It's been nary two years since we last spoke of Joe Lynch 's horror/comedy The Knights of Badassdom , but word has it Basementites will finally see the flick Feb. 21. Now, we in The Basement admit we haven't kept peeps as up to date on the film as we should. Apparently Lynch's version won't be released. We're getting an inferior cut allegedly stolen by the distributor. We can neither confirm nor deny this What we do know is the preview below looks awesome, and those who've seen Lynch's cut say it is equally so. Hopefully we'll get to see his version some day. Until then, prepare thyself to catch The Knights of Badassdom on VOD . Live-action role players conjure up a demon from Hell by mistake and they must deal with the consequences. That's what they get for LARPing, if you ask me. The Knights of Badassdom stars Ryan Kwanten , Steve Zahn , Summer Glau , and Peter Dinklage . All the Boys Love Mandy Lane finally gets a release date

Yes, Shawn and I reviewed this little horror flick -- one of the first starring roles for genre vet and all-around hot chick Amber Heard -- way back on Season One. Like, you know, in 2010 or something. The truth is All the Boys Love Mandy Lane premiered SEVEN years ago at the Toronto International Film Festival and it's never received an official release . . . until now. Harvey and Bob Weinstein unveil Jonathan Levine 's flick on VOD Sept. 6 and in theatres Oct. 11. That's right, this was made by the dude who made The Wackness and Warm Bodies before he made The Wackness and Warm Bodies. In my mind, this is good news. I dug All the Boys Love Mandy Lane. Shawn, not so much. But I think most horror fans are in for a low-budget treat. Worth the watch. Now check out this new trailer for the flick. New Bounty Killer trailer keeps the killing alive

I've heard really good buzz about Bounty Killer out of the Fantasia International Film Festival this year, especially from our boys over at Arrow in the Head, so this has become an instant must see in The Basement's books. Why? Post apocalyptic wasteland, rampant violence, hot chicks kicking ass and Gary Busey, that's why! This low-budget flick -- directed by Henry Saine and starring Matthew Marsden, Kristanna Loken and Christian Pitre -- hits VOD on Sept. 6 and DVD Oct. 29, just in time for Season Five. As for the long and short of the plot, read below: It’s been 20 years since the corporations took over the world’s governments. Their thirst for power and profits led to the corporate wars, a fierce global battle that laid waste to society as we know it. Born from the ash, the Council of Nine rose as a new law and order for this dark age. To avenge the corporations’ reckless destruction, the Council issues death warrants for all white collar cri minals. The...

Ladies and gentlemen, Bad Milo

I had a fat, lovable cat named Milo who eventually went nuts and had to be given away. While that short, sad story has nothing in common with the upcoming movie Bad Milo -- other than the name Milo -- I thought it was good way to share a little bit more about who I am. Bad Milo is a horror comedy centered on a guy who learns that his unusual stomach problems are being caused by a demon living in his intestines. Said demon comes out of said guy's ass to kill whomever is causing him (the guy, not Milo) grief. Just watch: Tell the truth, I think this looks funny as fuck. And it's got a great cast including Community hottie Gillian Jacobs, former Tick Patrick Warburton and past Satan Peter Stormare. Yeah, this is one we'll be watching here in The Basement for sure. Bad Milo hits Video On Demand Aug. 29 and theatres on Oct. 4. You can learn more about the flick via it's official website . Source: Magnet Releasing

Latest Grabbers clip features a creature autopsy

Shawn and I have talked long and loud about how much we dug the Irish horror/comedy Grabbers. We reviewed it , and pimped the flick's pending North American release . Now it's time to share with ye fine lads and lasses a clip, don't ya know. The clip is good for a few things; it shows off one of the creatures, provides a taste of the comedic banter, and let's you know what our very own Cameron "The Establishment" Thompson would look like if he were an Irish science geek. No bullshit. Watch and judge for yourselves: Grabbers is directed by John Wright and stars Richard Coyle and Ruth Bradley. Guess what? It hits theatres and VOD tomorrow (July19)! We in The Basement strongly suggest you seek it out. Worth the effort. Source: Arrow in the Head

War is hell in Frankenstein's Army

A Second World War found-footage movie about Russian soldiers squaring off against an army of Nazi monsters created by the mind of Dr. Victor Frankenstein? Sign me up! That is indeed the premise of co-writer/director Richard Raaphorst's flick, due in theatres and on VOD July 26. While found footage is dead and done in my opinion, the Frankenstein/Nazi/WWII angle is a gooder. And the preview below certainly promises some fucked up shit, if you'll pardon my French. Behold: Frankenstein's Army stars Karel Roden, Joshua Sasse and Robert Gwilym. Trust me, Shawn and I will hammer out a podcast for this one! Source: Arrow in the Head

Irish horror/comedy Grabbers gets a U.S. poster and trailer

We all loved the Irish horror/comedy/drinking movie Grabbers here in The Basement. It's a wonderfully witty (best said with an Irish accent) flick directed by Jon Wright and starring Richard Coyle and Ruth Bradley . Wanna know how much we liked it? Then read our thoughts right here . IFC Films picked up Grabbers for North American distribution and will release the flick in theatres and VOD on July 19. My birthday. In case you want to send presents. If you haven't watched it yet, you owe it to yourselves to do so. It's a lot of fun, with or without booze. Below is the U.S. poster, and I really dig what they did. This isn't a bunch of photoshopped heads on a canvas. This is art! And now for the preview. Enjoy. When an island off the coast of Ireland is invaded by bloodsucking aliens, the heroes discover that getting drunk is the only way to survive.  Source: IGN Related articles Snack Attack: Making Your Own Halloween Horror-Movie Poster...

Blood Runs Cold this July

Check this off as something we're curious to scope out in The Basement. The micro-budgeted Swedish slasher flick Blood Runs Cold has made the VOD rounds here in North America , and now the Sonny Laguna directed flick is ready to hit the home market. Gaiam Vivendi Entertainment and The Collective release Blood Runs Cold on DVD July 2.  As for the story, Winona is a successful artist looking to get away from her stressful life. Her manager rents her a house in her home town where she runs in to an old boyfriend. They go back to the house, only to find out it's not as empty as they assumed.  Betcha some people get killed. Betcha, betcha! Blood Runs Cold stars Hanna Oldenburg, Patrick Saxe, Andreas Rylander, and Elin Hugoson. And yes, it does sound a little like the Norwegian movie Cold Prey . Still, I'm up for almost anything in the genre -- especially when it's made for just $5,000 US and looks pretty slick -- so don't be surprised to see a review pop...
