Luc Besson heads to TV with Artificial Intelligence

That is correct, Basementites -- action-movie guru Luc Besson makes the jump to television with a project he created about a fugitive robot. And, like David Fincher and Sam Raimi before him, he's likely directing the pilot. The series, Artificial Intelligence, has been picked up by TNT, and is about a robot gone rogue and the people who are recruited to stop it.

Behold the Taken 3 . . . I mean Tak3n trailer

Every other movie site on the planet has posted about this, but that's never stopped us before. So we're proud to bring you the official trailer for Tak3n, which I still think is a stupid title for a movie. Just call it Taken 3. Please. That being said, I think the trailer looks damn good. A hell of a lot better than I expected. And the two minutes are certainly more interesting than the entire running time of Taken 2, which was not called Tak2n.

Jason versus 3 Days to Kill

Sometimes all you wanna watch on a Friday night is a good, old-fashioned shoot 'em up . You know, guns, some shit blows up, and there's a hot chick or two. Fortunately, Kevin Costner and Amber Heard 's 3 Days to Kill showed up on my VOD queue and satisfied that need. But is it good? A dying CIA agent trying to connect with his estranged daughter is offered an experimental drug that could save his life in exchange for one last assignment.

Reach your full potential with this Lucy trailer

We primed Basementites for Luc Besson 's upcoming sci-fi/action flick Lucy just last week. Given the response, you're all looking forward to watching Scarlett Johansson whoop some ass. Now you get to see her do it, as the first trailer launched today.

ScarJo is sexy with a gun in this Lucy pic

I don't know how the super-powered-chick-action-flick (say that 10 times real fast) Lucy slipped under my radar, but I'm ashamed to say it did. For one, it stars everyone's favourite hottie Scarlett Johansson , who we've given a lot of love to on this site due to the upcoming sci-fi movie Under the Skin .

District B13 remake Brick Mansions actually looks good!?!

Yeah, I said the District B13 remake Brick Mansions actually looks good. That's not saying the final product will be, but this trailer shows some potential. It doesn't hurt that District B13 star Davide Belle is in it, essentially playing the same character he played in the original. The late Paul Walker takes over for Cyril Raffaelli . Luc Besson is back as co-writer. And there's a lot of parkour .

Liam Neeson and Maggie Grace return for Taken 3

I'm gonna toss this into the Enough Already pile, but given the success of Taken 2 ($376 million worldwide) it should come as no surprise that screenwriters Luc Besson and Robert Mark Kamen have more Taken movies in the cannon. A third flick has been greenlit .

Kevin Costner kicks serious ass in 3 Days to Kill

I've seen Kevin Costner perform live with his band Modern West , and the man's got a lot of musical talent. But it's nice to see footage that reminds us movie geeks he was once one bad mofo in flicks like The Untouchables , Waterworld (you read that right) and Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves . Oh yeah, this trailer for 3 Days to Kill also features the incredible hotness that is Amber Heard . Bought your ticket yet? Sure, there's the cheese factor that comes with a lot of Luc Besson productions and anything directed by McG, but the rest of 3 Days to Kill looks like a fun and violent action movie. Bought your ticket yet? A dying Secret Service Agent trying to reconnect with his estranged daughter is offered an experimental drug that could save his life in exchange for one last assignment. Costner and Heard are backed up by Connie Nielson and Hailee Seinfeld. 3 Days to Kill opens Feb. 24. Source: Yahoo Movies Related articles Open Range (2003): A Movi...

Jason versus Taken 2

Taken was one of the best action movies of the last decade; a tight, taut and slick thriller with rough and tumble violence and an intense performance by Liam Neeson . It made a tank load of bank, so a sequel was inevitable. But how does the follow up rate? Stick with me. In Istanbul , retired CIA operative Bryan Mills and his wife are taken hostage by the father of a kidnapper Mills killed while rescuing his daughter. First off, this is a direct continuation of the first film, not a cheap rehash. So props to screenwriters Luc Besson and Robert Mark Kamen for that. And it's great to see Neeson 's Brian Mills back in action. He's a good character, a true bad ass, and worthy of his own series of movies. Too bad Taken 2 isn't all that interesting. Sure, there's some nifty fights and a great, and I mean great, car chase through Istanbul, but this sequel doesn't have that much more to offer. Wait, Maggie Grace in a bikini. OK, now there's nothing m...

Mike S tweets The Fifth Element

Every Friday night our mad twit Mike S from the Corner of Terror will shanghai The Basement's Twitter account and tweet along to a non-horror movie, all for your Internet pleasure. Cool, yes!?! We think so. On Feb. 8 he popped in the Luc Besson sci-fi flick The Fifth Element , starring the one and only Bruce Willis . Below are the wit and witticisms that made up his tweets. Enjoy! Mike S here ready to tweet along to # TheFifthElement ! I think when I'm digging in "Minecraft," I'll randomly scream out, "Azis... light!"... # TheFifthElement   What HAS Luke Perry been up to lately? # TheFifthElement   I forgot these aliens had lights on their crotches... # TheFifthElement   This space ship reminds me a bit of the Star Destroyer from Star Wars... not just not as triangular... # TheFifthElement   "Send out a probe" is a line that often leads to being attacked in Sci-fi. # TheFifthElement And enters the man, the legend- Cor...

Amber Heard gets Three Days To Kill with Kevin Costner

The lovely and talented Amber Heard has a busy year ahead of her, what with Machete Kills, Dead Sands and Paranoia on deck. And Subject 6. Girl knows how to stay active. And word hit today that the genre hottie has signed on to Kevin Costner's thriller Three Days To Kill from French action guru Luc Besson and Charlie's Angels director McG. Three Days To Kill follows a dying assassin (Costner) who hopes to reunite with his estranged daughter (Hailee Steinfeld) before it's too late. Heard plays a woman who offers the assassin an experimental drug that could save his life in exchange for one last assignment, which Costner must complete while coping with the drug's hallucinatory side effects. Sounds to me like this could be a blast. And with Amber on board, I know I'm there. We'll update you fine Basement Dwellers as production on Three Days To Kill continues. Cheers to Empire Online for the details.

Exclusive YouTube Taken 2 trailer best yet

Before Chuck Norris goes to sleep he checks under his bed for Liam Neeson. I've bitched before about how 20th Century Fox has buggered the marketing for its sequel to the smash hit Taken. But, with this new trailer released exclusively to YouTube, they got it right -- in my biased opinion of course. I'm not going to spoil it for you, just watch and enjoy. And remember: in Istanbul, retired CIA operative Bryan Mills and his wife are taken hostage by the father of a kidnapper Mills killed while rescuing his daughter. Much kicking of ass ensues. Taken 2 opens Oct. 5.

Liam Neeson kills everyone in this domestic Taken 2 trailer

Little more than a month ago we showed you the international trailer for the sequel to Taken, a film everyone on the planet but Matt Bellamy liked. Now we've got the North American trailer for Taken 2, and it's not much different. Sure, there's more action over classical music and a hint that Maggie Grace plays a bigger role than the victim this time around. What it doesn't show is Neeson gets taken too, and has to fight for his life while Grace comes to his aid. I really hope this is good. The trailer is decent, but doesn't totally sell me. I know I will see it, but 20th Century Fox really needs to sell this movie in light of the negative impact the tragedy in Aurora has had on the movie-theatre experience. Taken 2 opens Oct. 5

Jason reviews Lockout

The Basement has been a champion of Luc Besson's low-budget sci-fi/action flick Lockout simply based on the premise of Guy Pearce rescuing Maggie Grace from a prison in space. I mean, come on! How fucking cool is that!?! Just in case it's not clear: a man wrongly convicted of conspiracy to commit espionage against the U.S. (Pearce) is offered his freedom if he can rescue the president's daughter (Grace) from an outer space prison taken over by violent inmates. That's a premise with B-movie written all over it. And Lockout is indeed a B-movie. No more, no less. The visual effects range from decent (a final assault on the prison by spacecraft) to God fucking awful (a CGI car chase on par with a late 90s video games). Much of the action is of the running and shooting variety, save for a very cool zero-gravity brawl. In fact, it's the action and effects in Lockout that let me down the most. I don't need originality every step of the way, but give me someth...

Catch five minutes of Lockout

The more I see of the Guy Pearce/Maggie Grace action flick, the better it looks. And nothing gives a geek a real feel for a movie than five minutes of footage. OK, four minutes and 51 seconds. Sue me! I double dog dare you! This footage certainly lives up to the Die Hard-in-space potential of the premise, which sees Pearce break into an orbital prison to rescue Grace. Because who wouldn't do that for her? I like what I see here, a lot. We get a zero-gravity punch up for starters. And smartass remarks. Knowing this was written and produced by action guru Luc Besson helps, 'cause all I'm in the mood to see here is a big, noisy, cheesy action film. Hopefully that's what Lockout brings when it opens April 20.

Lockout poster features a babe and a big gun

A movie that's gone from zero to 60 on The Basement's must-see scale is the sci-fi/action film Lockout. First, we got a look at the kick ass trailer (posted below) and now we've go the slick poster (posted above). It shows Guy Pearce in full action-hero mode with a big effing gun, hottie Maggie Grace and a bunch of explosions and shit. It's everything a poster for a flick like Lockout should be. Oh yeah, the title's in there somewhere too. Lockout is written and produced by action guru Luc Besson and stars Pearce as a wise-cracking anti-hero recruited to rescue Grace from an orbital prison. The film hits April 20 and look like all kinds of fun.

Lock-Out trailer will kick your ass!

Another day, another trailer for a Guy Pearce movie? And he's playing a wisecracking sci-fi action hero? Hey, stranger things have happened! And truth is stranger than fiction 'cause Pearce plays just that in the Luc Besson scripted Lock-Out, which we've got the trailer for below. Pearce plays a convict who is offered his freedom if he saves the U.S. president's daughter from an orbital penal colony. Shades of Escape From New York/L.A.? Sure. Do we care? No. Why? Because Lock-Out looks great. And Maggie Grace stars as the president's daughter. I've always dug Pearce. He's a good actor and capable of playing anything. Here he gets to cut loose and kick some ass. The movie looks like it does the same. Bring it! But why try and explain when you can watch? Push play, sound off and check out Lock-Out when it lands in theatres April 20. More Lockout Videos

Micro Review: Colombiana

Zoe Saldana is one badass chick. There's no denying her charisma, physicality and acting chops. She's one of the few actresses who can pull off an action heroine. Unfortunately, the script by Luc Besson and Robert Mark Kamen is nothing more than a rehash of other action movies, including Besson's own The Professional. And director Olivier Megaton overshoots and overedits the picture like he thinks he's Michael Bay or something. Throw in a convoluted love interest and you've got yourself standard Hollywood drivel livened up by a great performance and a few good fights. A Bad on this one.

Maggie Grace back for Taken 2

We reported a couple of weeks back that Liam Neeson will return in the still untitled Taken 2. Now word has surfaced via a number of movie news websites that Maggie Grace will also be back as Neeson's daughter. The follow up to the 2009 box office hit is once again penned by co-producer Luc Besson. No word yet on what it's about but one can hope it isn't just a rehash involving Neeson saving Grace from bad guys. Although one would complain less if the level of ass kicking, which was already awesome, is pumped up even more for the sequel. Transporter 3 director Olivier Megaton will direct, with production set to start in late 2011/early 2012. And I'm excited, as we here in The Basement loved the first film. Don't screw it up guys!

Episode XIV: District 13-Ultimatum and The Lovely Bones

A little something for your ear hole: completely biased reviews of the French action movie District 13-Ultimatum and Peter Jackson's Oscar wannabe The Lovely Bones. Plus other goodies that are just too storied and awesome to mention in such a limited space.
