We in The Basement are impressed with Warner Bros. revitalization of the Godzilla franchise, and the way filmmakers have weaved it into an expanded universe with King Kong. Which means we're stoked for Adam Wingard's upcoming Godzilla Vs. Kong. The titans have squared off once before, waaaaaayyyyyy back in the 60s, and are set to do so again in November. And now we know what Wingard's movie will be about. Observe: Legends collide as Godzilla and Kong, the two most powerful forces of nature, clash on the big screen in a spectacular battle for the ages. I bring shame to my family by admitting I didn't catch Godzilla: King of the Monsters during it's initial theatrical run back in May. But life happens, and this lifelong Godzilla fan failed to do so. But I've bloody well seen it now, and I have much love for it! Lamestream critics bashed Michael Doughtery's epic Godzilla movie for not putting human drama first, and instead focusing on monster-versus-monster action. I wonder what the fuck movie they were expecting? As much as I enjoyed 2014's Godzilla, it had a little too much human drama for my liking. In fact, my chief complaint about Godzilla: King of the Monsters is there's still too many people in this movie. I yearn for the day when I get a Godzilla movie that's all monsters, and boring humans are nothing more than things to be stepped on. I digress. This is a great Godzilla movie, with epic battles between the King of the Monsters and Monster Zero and Rodan. Plus there's Mothra here too, ...

That's right, this latest spot for Warner Bros. upcoming sequel Godzilla: King of the Monsters pledges a film filled with, well, beautiful destruction. And we in The Basement are A-OK with that. We all dug Gareth Edwards' 2014 Godzilla movie, but it lacked monster-vs-monster combat on an epic, planet-smashing scale. Michael Dougherty's follow up will rectify that.

I love Gareth Edwards' 2014 Godzilla movie. Many complainers complained there wasn't enough monster action, but I liked it fine. Judging from this latest trailer for the upcoming follow up, there will be no room for complaints in that department when Michael Dougherty delivers the sequel next May.

Monster movies are a staple of the late night movie world, which means 2018 " Rampage " fits right into the Insomniac Theatre's roster of offerings. And what an offering it was...

I'm a hard-core Godzilla fan. I even have a tattoo of the King of the Monsters on my right leg. Love the classic Toho films. Love the 2014 version by Gareth Edwards. The 1996 Matthew Broderick film? ... not so much.

Shawn and Mike S have given me the gears for years about not being a fan of animation. Shawn loves the animated DC movies, and by now all of you should be familiar with Mike S's Animated Addict columns here in The Basement. Me? I have a hard time getting emotionally engaged in a story that's presented as a cartoon. Loved 'em as a kid, but not so much in the last 25 years or so. Cartoons leave me cold. However, that might be about to change.

Before CGI revolutionized special effects, there was the era of the Man in Suit. That's right, many times when there was a monster on the screen, it was played by a guy wearing a costume. Hands down the most famous Man-in-Suit monster is Godzilla. And on Monday, the guy who played him in 12 films -- from the original Godzilla in 1954 to Godzilla Vs. Gigan in 1972 -- passed away. Haruo Nakajima died at age 88.

My name is Brandon. I am 11 years old. Shawn is my dad. He asked me if I could review the movie I saw today. I went to see Godzilla with my friends. Here is my review. IT WAS .... It was really loud. But I like loud, because I have two smaller brothers who are noisy, which sometimes stops me from hearing shows or movies. There were parts that didn't make a lot of sense, until all the monsters started showing up, but when they showed up, it was really cool. The monsters looked so real, it was amazing. There were only two battles, but the end battle was amazing. I also didn't know Godzilla could blow fire. Mostly because I'm young and haven't seen any other Godzilla movies . My daddy is going to fix that, though.

Director Gareth Edwards must be the happiest nerd in the world right now. Not only is his Godzilla stomping the tar out of the movie box office , but he's signed on for three more potentially huge projects. News broke today that Edwards will direct not one, but two Godzilla sequels . This should come as no surprise given the new movie is on track to be one of the biggest hits of the year. And, in my opinion, the best flick of 2014 thus far. No word on when the sequels will hit.

Matt Bellamy and I took in Gareth Edwards ' Godzilla tonight -- flick got out mere moments ago to be exact. Being a couple of die hard Godzilla and monster movie fans, we thought we'd share a review of this much anticipated flick. We're gonna trade off thoughts without discussing what will be said in advance. I'm gonna let Matt start things off. And yes, we're aware of the mixed public reaction, for what that's worth. Because who cares what other people fucking think.

It should come as no surprise that a trailer for the sequel to Gareth Edwards ' Monsters appears just as the director makes his Hollywood debut with Godzilla . This has got people are talking about the follow up to the low budget hit. Even us. What does surprise me is how big this flick looks. Monsters was a character story set in a world where aliens had taken roost on Earth. Shawn and Anthony Michael Bosa wanted more from the movie, a lot more.

Before we get into this, and I'll be brief, let's be honest: no one expected Gareth Edwards ' spin on Godzilla to be rated R. Nor was a movie about giant monsters stomping the living shit out of everything going to be rated G. This is as big a summer movie as big summer movies get. Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures need to make a tonne of dough on it. So it was made with that in mind.

If everything you've seen and heard about the new Godzilla movie doesn't make you jones for it in the best possible way, then I weep for you. Actually, I don't, because real men don't weep. But it really is too bad.

No, that's not a special codeword for you know what. It's the real deal, as in a Godzilla toy to end all Godzilla toys. JAKKS Pacific has created a giant Godzilla action figure to go along with the upcoming Warner Bros. revival of the popular movie monster, and it's pretty damn epic.

Oh man. That's all I can say about this official trailer for the new Godzilla flick. It's beyond awesome. Really. It is. In fact, I'm gonna shut up and let you witness it for yourselves. Right now. Kudos to Matt Bellamy for letting me know it hit this morning.

The roar is one of the most recognizable sounds in all of moviedom, especially for us nerds who grew up watching the Toho flicks of 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s. Yup, that's a long legacy of awesomeness. With just three months to go, Warner Bros. is really ramping up Godzilla fans' anticipation for Gareth Edwards ' take on the big, green guy. And it's good to know he's not only kept the general look of the King of the Monsters , but his trademark "yo!" as well.

And me like. Very much. A version of this will hang in The Basement one day. Mark my words, it will. It's probably safe to assume the anticipation level for Gareth Edward's new Godzilla flick is running high. The trailers look awesome, the cast is stellar, and who doesn't want to see the King of the Monsters stomp the tar out of some city and do battle with a host of other creatures? I'd say anyone with half a brain.

It's news like this that makes me rue the day we moved to French Polynesia! But a few lucky souls who live in some select cities in the United States can catch the original 1954 Toho Studios Godzilla (American version with Raymond Burr) on the big screen right before the new Warner Bros. flick hits theatres.

I don't usually disagree to much with my friends at The Basement. However, I have to on this one. I haven't seen a decent monster movie in a while. Well, this was it. Yes, the idea of the weenie guy was annoying at first, but he stepped up quite quickly when the shit hit the fan. All the characters played there parts well and I actually wanted to see them survive. Granted, this was a token monster movie, but it makes it up with some good gore and a few tense scenes. The monster (alien) was mostly done with a real fx and not much CGI .
