Director Gareth Edwards must be the happiest nerd in the world right now. Not only is his Godzilla stomping the tar out of the movie box office, but he's signed on for three more potentially huge projects.
News broke today that Edwards will direct not one, but two Godzilla sequels. This should come as no surprise given the new movie is on track to be one of the biggest hits of the year. And, in my opinion, the best flick of 2014 thus far. No word on when the sequels will hit.
What comes as a bit of a surprise is Edwards will also helm the first Star Wars spinoff. We don't know what this will be about, other than it takes place outside the mainstream saga and will expand the Star Wars universe. Gary Whitta (The Book of Eli) is on board as screenwriter.
The spinoff hits theatres Dec. 16, 2016 -- a year after J.J. Abrams continues the franchise with his sequels.
I think this is awesome news. Edwards is a talented mofo, and the world needs more of his movies. Agree? Disagree?
