The Nick Pope interview, Storm Area 51, and Point Blank

The Basement Boys dive deep into online insanity in this, the latest podcast From The Basement! Jason speaks with author, journalist and the world's leading expert on UFOs and conspiracy theories, Nick Pope! Yup, NICK POPE! And they're talking the Internet's latest viral sensation, Storm Area 51.

Nick Pope in The Basement

Long-time fans know Shawn and I are big on UFOs, ghosts and conspiracy theories. Call the subject a second passion of ours. Suffice to say, when Storm Area 51 became a thing, we honestly considered attending this event in September... until Shawn pointed out we'd be in the Kill Zone. Being dads, husbands and more or less sane, we decided against it.

Editorial: why Homer Badman is even more relevant today

The best social satire is not only relevant when it's created, it becomes even more so as time passes. A few weeks back we talked about The Simpsons celebrating its 30th season. That's right, this show has been on TV for 30 years! At the time, Shawn pointed out how on point the series has been with its social commentary, and ability to predict the world we'd inherit years in advance.

From The Basement

Regular readers and followers might have noticed a subtle name change on our site and socials within the last 24 hours. Yup, we're no longer going by the moniker We Came from the Basement. Now, our little podcast and entertainment site is simply From The Basement. Yes, the T in the is supposed to be lower case, but this is our site and show, and we can do what we want. Wanna fight about it?

The Hitcher and Body Parts creator directs Bigfoot thriller No Man's Ridge

If you're a genre fan -- a TRUE genre fan -- then the name Eric Red means something to you. He wrote the genre classics The Hitcher, Blue Steel and Near Dark, and directed horror faves Body Parts, Bad Moon and 100 Feet. Now he's back with a new action/horror flick, one that tackles the most infamous monsters of all time: Bigfoot.

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, Instant Family and Widows

Jason and Shawn return in this, the first extended cut podcast in three weeks! The event also marks a new milestone for The Basement Boys, as it's the first they've record live on Facebook!! What does this mean for the future of the show? Not much changes really. Although there's some mugging for the camera that can only be seen when watching the video on We Came from the Basement's Facebook page .

Back on the air, and Facebook Live... ing it

Life is slowly returning to normal in The Basement, and that means it's almost time for Jason to rejoin Howie Reimer on the Radio NL 610 AM Morning Show, and Jason and Shawn to resume their extended cut podcast... with a slight twist! That's right: when Jason and Shawn sit down to record said extended cut they are going to take it live... Facebook Live that is.

The Basement has moved . . . ish

After a long hiatus, and a decision to somewhat change the direction and format of the show, activity on this blog will -- at least for the time being -- cease. Sad face is sad . . . Does this mean We Came from the Basement is dead? Narp! Instead, all activity will appear on our long-running Facebook fan page , which you can find right here . That's right, any reviews, news or future shows will pop up as short posts on the fan page . Why? We're too shittin' busy to dedicate a lot of time and thought beyond the shits and giggles we get from doing the show etc. In order to keep things going, we need to simplify. And this is how that gets done. Shawn has pointed out this post has already required more thought than he anticipated putting into things. Dammit, the man is right! Thanks for sticking with us during the starts and stops of the last few years. Please continue to follow us on the Facebook page . Fans can still post whatever they like to our Facebook group pag...

If fear has a name . . . it's What Movie Wednesday

That right ladies and germs, guys and ghouls, it's almost that time again. And that time is almost What Movie Wednesday! Every Wednesday night, long-time Basement contributor Mike S takes to his  @TerrorCorner Twitter account and tweets along to a horror movie. And YOU get to tell him what movie to tweet along too.

John Fallon's The Shelter heads to Cannes

We haven't talked about our bro John Fallon's debut feature film The Shelter for a long-ass time because, well, we technically took our ball and went home. But we're back, and we've got some exciting news about the flick. You know, the one Shawn scored the music to and stars Michael Pare? Yeah, that one.

Jessica Cameron's Save Yourself teases a trailer

It's been months since we reported on scream queen Jessica Cameron's latest effort, Save Yourself. Like eight months, actually. But the horror hottie just sent a teaser trailer and some new stills from the flick our way -- right on time for Women in Horror Month. Save Yourself tells the story of five female filmmakers en route to their big L.A. premiere. But when one of them goes missing at a rest stop, the women soon find themselves pitted against a deranged scientist hell-bent on using them for his mysterious research.

You decide the Monday Retro Review

Alright, I had my fun picking and choosing what Monday Retro Review movie I wanted to watch. Now it's time for you to decide. That's right, we're democratic here in The Basement. I know, I'm as surprised as you are.

Teaser trailer for John Fallon's The Shelter is here

After a year of anticipation, and several stories telling you all about it, we finally get a look at our bro John Fallon's feature directorial debut The Shelter . That's right, it's teaser trailer time! Know what else is cool about this teaser trailer? The music is by The Basement's very own Shawn ! And he's scoring the whole movie to boot! How kick ass is that? Very kick ass!

About those Halloween 3 rumours . . .

They're true. - 30 - I kid, I kid. But not about those Halloween 3 rumours being true.

Get ready to howl at the official Wolfcop trailer

Seems like we've been talking about the action/comedy/werewolf movie Wolfcop for freakin' ever, which makes sense because we've been pimping this flick since it was in the early stages of financing. With Wolfcop headed to Canadian theatres on June 6, isn't it high time we finally saw a trailer for this bad boy?

Anthony Michael Bosa versus V/H/S 2

Our Asylum correspondent is back . . . and not watching an Asylum movie . Nope. The Bosanator takes on the found-footage horror sequel V/H/S 2 and he, like Shawn and I, is tired of found footage. But does he like this movie? Stick with us! Searching for a missing student, two private investigator break into a house and find a collection of VHS tapes . Viewing the horrific contents of each cassette, they realize there may be dark motives behind the student's disappearance.

Halloween 5 star joins Hillbilly Horror Show

By now most Basementites should have watched the first episode of the Filthy Fingernails produced web series Hillbilly Horror Show, which we've pimped here and here . And most self-respecting Basementites will have seen  Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers , because it's required viewing for horror fans. So, when we toss out the name Tamara Glynn, most of you should know it.

Scream queen Jessica Cameron finds evil in Utero

Recent Basement guest/scream queen Jessica Cameron is a busy gal. Her directorial debut , Truth or Dare, is still making the festival rounds, and she's already back in front of the camera in the new baby themed horror flick Utero. Utero is about an agoraphobic , unwed mother who finds her psyche unraveling as she becomes convinced that her unborn child is more monster than human. I think my wife kinda thought that about our son at one point during her pregnancy . . . and still does from time to time.

Wanna see The Shadow of Death?

A couple of seasons back, Shawn and I put Gav Chuckie Steel's directorial debut The Shadow of Death on the chopping block and enjoyed the hell out of it. Regrettably, it's a tough film to find, so few on our side of the world (Gav is from the U.K.) have seen it. That's about to change as The League of Extraordinary Podcasts hosts a live watchalong with Gav on the group's Facebook page. All you gotta do is ask to join the group and you can take part in the watchalong.

It's a Hellions of a contest

Everyone in The Basement -- and out, we don't exclude here -- who wants to make a short horror film and have it shown everywhere, raise your hand. That many? I thought so. Then give this video a watch, mofos:
