Ghostbusters: Afterlife trailer aims for the nostalgia centre

Yup. I can get on board with this one. I know this is just two minutes of footage, but if you're going to reboot or do a direct sequel to a 35-year-old franchise, writer/director Jason Reitman certainly took the best shot he had, and it looks like he might have pulled it off. Everything about this trailer works. You don't need to have grown up on Ghostbusters to get what is going on here, but it certainly helps. If you did, there's enough nostalgia on display to hit you in the feels. Now watch: Ghostbusters: Afterlife stars Carrie Coon, McKenna Grace, Finn Wolfhard and Paul Rudd. And the surviving Ghostbusters of course. It comes out next summer. Source: Sony

Ghostbusters: Afterlife trailer lands on Monday, first pics arrive

Whether you're excited for one or not, a new Ghostbusters movie is coming our way next summer; one directly tied to the original films. The trailer for Jason Reitman's Ghostbusters: Afterlife drops on Monday (yes, I know I already mentioned that in the headline) but a few images arrived online earlier today, and we'd be dicks if we didn't share them with you here. The film picks up about 30 years after the original Ghostbusters, and follows a single mother and her two children who move to a farm left to her by a father she never knew. When the family arrives, the children befriend their summer school teacher, played by Paul Rudd, and they start to notice odd occurrences around the farm, and in the town. Then they discover the classic Ecto-1 hidden on the property, and a familiar device that reads psychokinetic energy... Suffice to say, the kids discover who their grandfather was, and question if they're ready to pick up the proton packs themselve...

Ghostbusters: Afterlife trailer heads our way this week

Just hours ago I commented how we now have teasers for trailers. Now I write an article teasing a trailer that's going to tease a movie later this week. Or something like that. I don't know. I just work here... But a trailer for the new Ghostbusters movie is scheduled to drop some time this week, likely later rather than sooner. Oh, and the movie has a title now, and it's Ghostbusters: Afterlife. We know very little about the plot, but the new Ghostbusters does deal with a family that moves back home to a small town. While there, they begin to learn more about who they are, and the town's secrets. Ghostbusters: Afterlife is directed by Jason Reitman, son of original Ghostbusters director Ivan Reitman. Carrie Coon, Paul Rudd, Finn Wolfhard and McKenna Grace star. And yes, the original -- and surviving -- Ghostbusters Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson return. So we'll keep an eye out for the trailer, and bring it forth for you when it arrives. I...

The Basement's Halloween Spooktacular

'Twas the weekend before Halloween, and all through the house, some creatures are stirring... and they aren't a mouse... or mice... or whatever... But Jason and Shawn are back with a Halloween special designed to hit you right in your creep-out zone as they review Patrick Lussier and Todd Farmer's latest effort, Trick! Lussier and Farmer were originally tasked with crafting a sequel to Rob Zombie's two Halloween movies. That flick didn't happen, but the talented duo obviously had a Halloween-themed story to tell. Is their new movie as good as My Bloody Valentine 3D and Drive Angry? Stick with us! And stick around as The Basement Boys sound off on their Top 5 things to watch this Halloween. There's some expected flicks and TV shows on the list, and some that might surprise you. Either way, Jason and Shawn have some choice viewing ideas that might help you plan your post-trick-or-treat watch. Throw in some commentary on the latest movie trailers, a revie...

From the Corner: "Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween" (2018)

Sometimes, sequels are better than the original.  Sometimes, sequels are as good as the original.  Often, sequels are worse than the original... While rummaging through an abandoned house looking for scrap to sell, Sonny and Sam come across a mysterious chest in a hidden room.  Inside the chest is a strange, locked book.  Opening the book releases Slappy the Dummy... and all the chaos that follows him.

Review: Ghostbusters (2016)

With the recent release of a new " Ghostbusters " teaser, I decided to sit down and watch the franchise reboot that came out in 2016.  Did the all female version deserve all of the hate it got? As paranormal events start to occur across New York in increasing numbers, three scientists (and Patty) come together to investigate the cause.  They soon find themselves dealing with the possible end of the world...

Jason Reitman teases new Ghostbusters movie

It seems like human sacrifices, dogs and cats living together, and other mass hysteria have occurred, as a new Ghostbusters movie -- one that ignores the 2016 remake -- is headed our way in 2020! What do we know about the picture? Not much, other then Jason Reitman (son of original Ghostbusters director Ivan Reitman) will direct from a script he co-wrote with Gil Kenan. Reitman stated this is a continuation of the 1984 film.

The Ghostbusters trailer will slime you

Not a lot of time for the jibber jabber this morning, but Amy brought the unveiling of the new Ghostbusters trailer to my attention, and I had to give it a watch and post about it. For one, my burning hatred for the project is gone. Two, I laughed some while watching it. Three, I appreciate they acknowledge the original movie happened. So this is another sequel/reboot as opposed to a remake.

The Halloween Spooktacular V

Last Halloween, Jason and Shawn played the cruelest of tricks on Basementites everywhere . . . they quit! Fortunately, they suck at quitting, and the Basement Boys are back for their annual Halloween Spooktacular! And Halloween just isn't Halloween without The Basement's No. 1 Scream Queen -- Brooke Lewis! That's right guys and ghouls, Brooke is back to help Jason, Shawn and new co-host Amy Wickenheiser entertain your asses.

Ghostbusters returning to theatres

Seeing Ghostbusters for the first time on the big screen during the summer of 1984 is still a vivid memory for this Basementite. I went with my mom, the No. 1 theatre at the Odeon was packed, and people laughed their collective asses off. Believe it or not, that was 30 years ago. To celebrate this milestone, the Bill Murray , Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis vehicle is headed back to the big screen later this sumer.

Halloween Spooktacular 5: the Ernie Hudson interview with guest Brooke Lewis

There are many Halloween traditions . . . never take candy from a stranger, don't blow out a jack-o'-lantern before midnight, and The Basement's Halloween Spooktacular. And this Halloween Spooktacular is the mother of all Halloween Spooktaculars. Joining Jason and Shawn for the entire hour is none other than award winning scream queen Brooke Lewis! Brooke and the Basement Boys discuss all things horror, including the creepiest movie music/sounds that accompany the genre. Then, nothing says Halloween like ghosts. And nothing says ghosts like Ghostbusters. Which is why Jason and Shawn are proud to feature an exclusive interview with Ghostbuster Winston Zeddemore himself -- Ernie Hudson . Hudson talks about his classic role, working with Bill Murray and Dan Akroyd , and the possibility of a third Ghostbusters movie. But that's not all! The man chats his career, his friendship with the late Brandon Lee , and the state of the film industry. THIS is the one movie...

The Basement returns Oct. 18

There was a time when the likelihood of a fifth season of our show wasn't in the cards. For personal and professional reasons. But Shawn and I are proud to announce Season Five's premieres Friday, Oct. 18, with a new episode every two weeks after that. And you'll find them all right here at wecamefromthebasement.com ! Yes , this season is more podcast based. But the fine folks at 92.5FM CFBX Kamloops will broadcast episodes as we send them their way and use classic casts to fill the gaps in programming. So you'll still be able to find us at www.thex.ca ! Each episode features two B-movie reviews, a sampling of indie music , the latest movie news and feature interviews and segments. We know we've got a winning formula, so we're not going to mix it up too much. But we've still got a surprise or two up our sleeves. And tune in Thursday, Oct. 31 -- Halloween bitches -- for our annual Halloween Spooktacular . We're joined by award-winning scream ...

The Basement wants you -- to pick the movie!

No, we're not muscling in on Mike S 's What Movie Wednesday duties, but we're already looking ahead to season five and hope you Basementites can help us out. See, we review about 44 to 48 movies a season, and finding that many B-grade horror, action and sci-fi flicks -- not to mention the odd comedy and documentary -- isn't always easy. This is where you, the listener, come in. We want YOU to leave a comment here on the site or on our Facebook fan page and group page and let us know what movies you want us to watch. You can also email a suggestion to basementreviews@gmail.com. We don't want our listeners to give us a whole season worth of films, but we'll watch a couple of fan picks here and there during season five. If we pick your flick, we'll send you some cool Basement swag. There you have it -- You Pick the Flick! And get some cool shit doing it. Stick with us! A state of The Basement redress

A couple of days ago Shawn and I provided an update on our plans for this site and our show. As you can tell from an earlier post tonight , we already proved ourselves liars. Truth is, aside from saying we're in this for the love of the show, we're backtracking on what we said in that post. Truth is, a few turn of events during the last 24 hours got Shawn and I think deeper about what we do. We're still all about the radio show/podcast, but we feel we have something pretty special going on with this site and how we do the shit we do. Yes, we're focusing on quality over quantity, so posts won't be coming at you in crazy numbers. But we will post as often as we can without driving ourselves batshit crazy. And we're not doing this because we want to become rich. We're doing it because we believe in what we do, and so do a core group of fans. Also, we're not done with the mini-film fest either. All I can say to that is stick with us! So brace ...
