Into the MCU: "Avengers: Infinity War" (2018)

Today takes us to war... infinite war... Thanos is coming.  He hungers for the Infinity Stones. With them, he can bring "balance" to the universe... and it's up to The Avengers to stop him... This movie is essentially one battle scene after the other, with bits of story within it.  There are a lot of story threads to follow- possibly too many.  To be honest, I don't remember too many of them- though I do have say that Thor's story line was my favorite.  It was exciting and emotional, and fun, and intense. The characters are great... but are unfortunately diluted due to how much they're trying to pack into this movie.  Once again, the ones that stood out for me were those taking part in Thor's character arc- Thor, Loki, Hulk/Banner, Groot, Rocket.  The others... once again- I don't remember much of the others.  This is a shame since the other characters are generally just as enjoyable. Where this movie shines really, is the spectacle. ...

Jason versus Captain America: The Winter Soldier

The dust has settled, the hype his over, and almost everyone and their dog has watched Captain America: The Winter Soldier . Which means it's my turn to weigh in on Marvel's latest follow up to The Avengers . Steve Rogers struggles to embrace his role in the modern world and battles a new threat from an old foe, the Soviet agent known as The Winter Soldier.

Shawn versus Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Shawn here, reporting in, sir. Last weekend our "free movie tickets" expired.  We had to use them up. Wasn't much playing at our local theater, that we could all go see as a family, that wouldn't cause someone to fall asleep or eat all the popcorn during the previews. So, we settled on Capt'n America. I didn't enjoy the first Cap very much, so I wasn't looking forward to this. But I did enjoy The Avengers . Here's the thing.  If the movie, derived from a comic book , doesn't give me eye candy, I'll read the comic.  The first Captain America fell short there and was too long in the story, in my opinion.. What they did in the second one, was similar to how stories are laid out, in cartoon series' of The Avengers or Justice League...for example.

Shawn versus Thor: The Dark World

Shawn here, you know, the superhero movie fanboy?...not.  Ok, well maybe a little. Am I bias?  When it comes to my opinion, absolutely. Watched Thor: The Dark World last night.  I didn't mind the first one as it was a great intro movie. Obviously, The Avengers carried more of this story, with Loki as the bad guy.  The Avengers movie was very well balanced. So that had me looking forward to seeing Thor 2.

Some Super Bowl spots for your eye holes

Alright, the Super Bowl is over (Go Hawks), now it's time to catch the Big Game Spots for some of the year's most anticipated flicks. We've got Transformers: Age of Extinction, Captain America: The Winter Soldier , Need for Speed and The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Personally, these spots sell me on almost all of the movies, even though I never saw the last Transformers nor The Amazing Spider-Man. Might have to rethink my thinking.

Shawn VS Iron Man 3

I walked into this movie with some expectations; two Iron Man movies, plus an Avengers movie, in the bank . . . Of course I dug them. As superheroish movies go, Iron Man has become my favourite. For now. Waiting for Man of Steel though. As always, this was a high priced "hooker" that knew her job and completed it with complete satisfaction at the end. There really is only one gripe: Tony Stark is a hero in the suit. He is just a man without it. Let's remember that for next time. Movie = Good. Rest in Peace Department comes alive July 19th

The past few years have seen many comic books being adapted for the big screen and the small screen - and they've run the spectrum from The Avengers to The Walking Dead .  This summer will see a few more of them, including "Rest In Peace Department". German director Robert Schwentke will be directing this adaptation of of the Dark Horse comic, which is going by the shortened name of "R.I.P.D".  Ryan Reynolds and Jeff Bridges have been tapped to star in this Universal Pictures foray. Reynolds plays Nick Cruz Walker- a recently murdered cop who agrees to join an undead police force keeping the supernatural peace in the hopes of finding the person responsible for his death. This movie has the potential to be as cool as the first "Men in Black" movie... or as lame as the third one. "R.I.P.D." will be in theatres July 19th.
