The dust has settled, the hype his over, and almost everyone and their dog has watched Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Which means it's my turn to weigh in on Marvel's latest follow up to The Avengers.
Steve Rogers struggles to embrace his role in the modern world and battles a new threat from an old foe, the Soviet agent known as The Winter Soldier.
Now, I have yet to see Guardians of the Galaxy -- that'll happen this Saturday -- but I'm gonna start off by saying this is my favourite Marvel movie outside of The Avengers. Hands down. Yeah, I love Iron Man and think Robert Downey Jr. is the man, but this movie is just so much bad-ass fun that it beat old shell head by a hair.
Why? Although it's about a superhero, the flick plays more like an action/espionage thriller than a comic-book movie. Think The Bourne Ultimatum with Captain America. While large in scope, most of the action is fistfights, gun battles and car chases. And it's all well stage and exciting.
Chris Evans is perfect as Captain America, and makes the larger-than-life character human and very likeable. Scarlett Johansson continues to be one of the sexiest and deadliest female action heroes going. Someone give Black Widow her own movie already! Kudos too for the introduction of The Falcon, who is well played by The Hurt Locker veteran Anthony Mackie. Hope he becomes an Avenger one day.
I could go on, but I won't. I had a blast with Captain America: The Winter Soldier and highly recommend it to the five people on the planet who have yet to see it. Good.
