Review: On the Trail of Hauntings Ep. 3

In this latest installment of Small Town Monsters' new web series, On the Trail of Hauntings, we're taken to the Ohio State Reformatory, which is alleged to be one of the more haunted sites in the United States. And, as one would expect given the first two episodes in this series, not a heck of a lot happens.  Spoiler alert. Fans of paranormal reality shows might be disappointed but, if you've ever been on a paranormal investigation, you know this is par for the course. And it's Seth Breedlove and company's insistence on NOT playing things up for the camera that keeps this show interesting for me. Indeed, one of my favourite sequences in this episode is when the STM Squad spends several minutes of screen time figuring out what's responsible for a loud, mysterious banging in one of the reformatory's rooms. They end up explaining it away as a natural occurrence, and I appreciate their willingness to keep it all on the screen. THAT is what real ghost hunting is...

New web series Asher: Initiation kicks demon butt

Let's face it, the influx of new TV and movies is getting a little thin, what with films and shows in production. Thankfully, we still have web content to keep us entertained. And the fine folks at Lonely Cow Productions have a gooder (proper English) for you in their paranormal/action/horror series Asher: Initiation. The first episode is alive and kicking on YouTube, and we've taken the liberty of sharing it for Basement Dwellers. We pause this message in order for you to watch, like and subscribe: There! Isn't that a bit of fun. Not a question, a statement. Interested in more? You can keep up with Asher: Initiation via the  official website . Asher: Initiation is produced by Cara Brennan, Jack Payne and Laura Cusano. Marcus Slabine directs. Brennan also stars. Source: Asher: Initiation

Q & A: Linnea Sage

If there’s one thing – and there is more than one thing, by the way – that’s refreshing about the new web series  Wildcats  it’s that it’s got something to say. Sure, it’s funny, and the cast – led by New York actor Linnea Sage – are particularly funny, but it encompasses an important and empowering message that most television series, let alone web series would be bothered or brave enough to include.

Halloween 5 star joins Hillbilly Horror Show

By now most Basementites should have watched the first episode of the Filthy Fingernails produced web series Hillbilly Horror Show, which we've pimped here and here . And most self-respecting Basementites will have seen  Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers , because it's required viewing for horror fans. So, when we toss out the name Tamara Glynn, most of you should know it.

Ms. Vampy's Love Bites dates your friend's ex

Well, not really. But that's the subject matter Ms. Vampy -- the world's one and only 110-year-old self-help guru -- tackles on the fourth episode of her latest web series . Ms. Vampy is of course the one and only Brooke Lewis, award winning scream queen and good friend to The Basement. If you haven't checked out Ms. Vampy's Love Bites, this is a good time to start. Take a gander at Ms. Vampy's Love Bites Ep. 3

Who better to give advice on love and dating than a 110-year-old vampire? And what better 110-year-old vampire to give such advice than the one and only Ms. Vampy. Not a question. A statement. Brooke Lewis and her ever popular web-series host are back for the third episode of Ms. Vampy's Love Bites. This week, Vampy tackles the ever important question of who pays on the first date. In my biased opinion it should be the guy, because that's the gentlemanly thing to do. But let's hear what Ms. Vampy has to say on the subject matter, shall we: A new Ms. Vampy's Love Bites appears every week at MsVampy.net . Behold: My Synthesized Life Episode 1.

The wait is over, Basementites! We've pimped writer/director Nate Golon's web series My Synthesized Life for months now (with articles here and here ) and the mofo has finally arrived. The first episode premiered today, with subsequent episodes released every Tuesday and Thursday. What is it? A comedy series about Jimmy Bales, whose voice naturally auto-tunes when he gets electrocuted by his radio during a rap song. Wanna watch the first one? We've got it for you right here: Just checked it out myself, and I can safely safe the series is funny without being silly or corny. The auto-tune gag really comes off well. I'm curious to see where Nate and company take the story from here. The series stars Brent Bailey, Jonathan Schwartz, Katie Gill, Katie Seeley and a slew of special guests including Katie Leclerc of ABC Family 's Switched at Birth, Barrett Foa from NCIS: Los Angeles and Tony Award Winner Marissa Jaret Winokur.   For more check out the sho...

Catch the beat of the My Synthesized Life trailer

Remember Nate Golon? He's the cool dude who made the bad to the ass short flick Briefcase before turning his cinematic sites on his own web series , My Synthesized Life . Well, it looks like Nate is ready to unleash My Synthesized Life on the world some time in May or June. Earlier today he dropped us the first trailer for the series, which features the misadventures of one Jimmy Bales, whose voice naturally synthesizes after he gets electrocuted by his radio during a rap song. You want original? It doesn't get more original than that! Here's the trailer: The series stars Brent Bailey, Jonathan Schwartz, Katie Gill, Katie Seeley and a slew of special guests including Katie Leclerc of ABC Family 's Switched at Birth , Barrett Foa from NCIS: Los Angeles and Tony Award Winner Marissa Jaret Winokur . Nate's a talented filmmaker, and we look forward to seeing what he does with My Synthesized Life. For more, check out the show's Facebook page and...

Zombies come of age with web series Ferals

If you think The Walking Dead has the zombie market cornered, think again. A new web series from Australia is poised to take the undead genre in a whole new direction with Ferals. Producer Bridget Curran is one of the fine folks behind the series, which is currently seeking funding from the international horror community. What's it about? Here's the pitch: Ferals is a zombie coming of age story. People don’t die and reanimate, they get sick and deteriorate. The series will tell the story of a family struggling to come to terms with a pandemic that tears them apart. If you think that sounds like your cup of grue -- and I'm pretty sure it does -- we in The Basement suggest stopping by the Ferals Facebook page and giving it a Like. You can also enjoy the countdown to their official campaign drive on 12/12/12 as the Ferals team posts a favourite zombie moment a day until the launch.  If you know anyone who loves horror and would like to see a quality project get of...

Briefcase creator takes on My Synthesized Life

Earlier this year we brought you writer/director Nate Golon's snazzy little short film Briefcase. It was bad the ass, and very much in line with some of the classic episodes of The Twilight Zone. Suffice to say, we dug it. Not one to rest on his laurels, Nate has gone done and attacked another project -- a web series called My Synthesized Life. Which sounds kind of like that old Claire Danes TV series My So Called Life, but in name only. My Synthesized Life is a comedy about a young man whose voice naturally synthesizes after he gets electrocuted by his radio during a rap song. That. Is. Original. Still in production, the series stars Brent Bailey, Jonathan Schwartz, Katie Gill, Katie Seeley and special guest Katie Leclerc (pictured above) of ABC Family's Switched at Birth. We've included a promotional video below, and will update you as the series draws closer to its premiere. And you can keep up with the show here on Twitter and Facebook . Briefcase rocked,...

Ms. Vampy earns Brooke Lewis another award

Regular listeners know there's much love in The Basement for our No. 1 scream queen, Brooke Lewis. Already a multiple-award winner, including for her role in Slime City Massacre, the lovely lady's work has once again been recognized . . . and we couldn't be happier for her. Brooke's TV pilot and web series, Ms. Vampy's Tween Tawk, Teen Tawk & In Between Tawk, has won a Honolulu Film Awards Silver Lei Award For Comedy/Family/Talk Show! "This is the most special project I've created! I want to inspire girls of all ages. I'm still a teenage girl at heart who deals with her own issues and insecurities and, if I can make a difference in the lives of tweens and tweens today, then I have done my job. VAMPT IT OUT!," Brooke said. Brooke followed up her successful 2009 Ms. Vampy web series with this new inspirational series aimed at young girls, with discussions around body image, self-esteem, peer pressure, caring about what others think of you, b...
