Top 5: Marvel movies we'd like to take back

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is the envy of rival studios everywhere. This well crafted, and plotted, run of quality films IS the world of Marvel Comics realized on screen, and a true legacy to Marvel creator Stan Lee. The box-office goldmine comes with a price, as before Iron Man and Robert Downey Jr. there was a long line of failed attempts to bring Marvel characters to the big screen.

Marvel legend Stan Lee dead at 95

Word has reached The Basement that Marvel Comics creator Stan Lee has died. He was 95. Lee passed away in the early hours of this morning at Cedars-Sinai Medical Centre in Los Angeles. The cause of death has yet to be determined.

Review: Daredevil Season Three

While the Mighty Marvel Cinematic Universe has proven a powerful force at the box office and among fans, Marvel's Netflix lineup is a bit shaky. Each series has its own merits (maybe not Iron *spits* Fist) but only The Punisher has managed to hold my interest through the full season. The Punisher and, of course, Daredevil. Daredevil is hands down the best of the Marvel Netflix shows, and one of the few remaining now that Iron Fist and Luke Cage have been cancelled. The series continues in fine fashion with this third season. In fact, after a slow warmup, this could be the strongest run yet for Matt Murdock and company.

The House With A Clock In Its Walls and Life Itself

Shawn is back in The Basement, and just in time for the extended cut of Friday's segment on the Radio NL 610 AM Morning Show! What do Jason and Shawn get up to this episode? A whole bunch of stuff guaranteed to hit you right in your entertainment centre!

Lions, tigers and Predators . . . oh my!

The word from the higher ups at Radio NL is they like us! They really, really, like us! So that means We Came from the Basement is back on the mighty NL Morning Show today at about 8:40 a.m.! An exclamation mark just because! Shawn is away, so Jason and Howie talk a whole slew of movie and entertainment news for your ear holes, including a few thoughts on Amazon Prime's Jack Ryan series and the upcoming season of Netflix and Marvel's Daredevil.

About Marvel's The Defenders trailer

Much like The Avengers before it, it's been a long and purposeful road to The Defenders. The execs at Marvel Studios have planned and plotted the upcoming Netflix series since long before Daredevil emerged on the scene two years ago, and followed it up with Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist. You know, like Marvel did with Iron Man, Thor, Captain America etc and so on.

Wonder Woman and the Superhero Movie

Another summer where franchise fatigue has set in, and sequels that would have, at one time, been guaranteed hits, underperform. Yet the superhero movie continues to reign supreme. Spider-Man: Homecoming has earned $176 million in eight days. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 $386 million to date, and Wonder Woman $375 million and climbing.

We record tonight . . .

Headlines don't get much more on the nose than that! But it's the truth -- Jason and Shawn are back in The Basement this eve to record another episode. What's it all about, Charlie Brown?

TV Worth Watching and The Remake Train

Jason and Shawn are back one more time before switching to a loose schedule for the summer, and they've got something a bit different to talk about this episode. How different? Think TV. Yup, The Basement takes a break from movies to discuss how good television has become, with quality programs like Marvel's Daredevil and Jessica Jones, House of Cards, and Banshee drawing big talent away from the big screen. What are Basementites watching and what do they think? Stick with us!

Jason AND Shawn versus Daredevil Season Two, the last seven episodes

I don't binge TV. It's not that I don't find shows I enjoy, but I just don't have the time. However, in the case of Daredevil Season Two, I couldn't help myself. The end of each episode compelled me to continue to the next, moving from one to the other like one of The Punisher's bullets hitting its target. There's not much I can add to my thoughts on this season that I didn't write about in my review of the first six episodes , but that doesn't reflect the quality of the season's second half. Not by a long shot.

Jason versus Daredevil Season Two: the first six episodes

This will be a short and sweet, spoiler-free roundup of the first half (ish) of Marvel and Netflix's second season of Daredevil. It's great. 'Nuff said. Just kidding.

Blood Rush, comic-book movies and the Slender Man

Jason, Shawn and Amy are back on The X for another hour of music and banter related to all things entertainment! And what an hour it is, as the Terrible Trio tackle a movie review and a pair of subjects one wouldn't normally lump together -- Internet memes and comic-book movies.

Elektra gets her due in new Daredevil Season 2 trailer

The last trailer for Daredevil's second season was all about Jon Bernthal's The Punisher. Now, just weeks before the show returns to Netflix, we've got a good look at The Man Without Fear's mysterious lady love, Elektra. Elektra is brought to life by Elodie Yung, and I am impressed. I shouldn't be surprised by this. So far the brains behind Marvel's Daredevil have knocked everything out of the park, in my opinion. And this is the opinion of a lifelong DD fan.

The Daredevil Season 2 trailer is not a half measure

No sir. This trailer, which gives us a whole lot of The Punisher and a boat load of action, is the real deal. It's awesome! Pure awesome. And, for the first time ever, I think I'm truly excited to see The Punisher on screen. Don't get me wrong, I found something to enjoy in every big-screen adaptation of the character.

Batman V Superman V Daredevil

UPDATED! Marvel officially announced today (Thursday, Jan. 7)  that Daredevil Season 2 will launch on Friday, March 18. That's one week before Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. And I will still pick it over the DC flick any day! And now the original story: The wait is over for fans of Marvel's Daredevil series on Netflix. Kinda. In the sense that we now know when Season 2 debuts on the streaming services. And Marvel is showing some stones by releasing it against one of the year's most anticipated movies.

Review: Daredevil Season 1, Episodes 1 - 6

During my Grade-12 year, my classmates voted me Grad Most Likely To Become Batman. And I was a big Batman fan. But I have a confession to make, Father. I was actually an even bigger Daredevil fan. In fact, Marvel's Daredevil is my all-time favourite comic-book character. Which means I was uber pumped when word hit that he'd get his own Netflix original series. All 13 episodes dropped this past Friday, and yours truly has already battled his way through six. What does this hardcore fan of The Man Without Fear think thus far? Stick with me!

Because it's awesome, the new Daredevil trailer

It's already been established that I'm pumped for the new Daredevil series Netflix will debut a month from now. Great teaser, groovy stills, and my favourite comic book hero. 'Nuff said. Now we've got a full trailer for the show, and I am beyond excited to see The Man Without Fear put foot to ass on my big TV. Ready for it?

New Images from the Netflix Daredevil series

I dig me Daredevil. A lot. He was pretty much my favourite comic-book character growing up. And I even liked the 2003 Ben Affleck flick up and to a point (sue me). So I'm super stoked that Marvel and Netflix have produced a series based on the blind crimefighter. The show doesn't debut until April 10. And yes, I've already cleared my schedule for the weekend. Until then, there's a slew of new images from the series that hit the Interwebs today. And we've got 'em for you right here.

Daredevil will be a Netflix original series

YES! Said this long-time Daredevil fan. This is good news for those of us who are anxiously awaiting a decent adaptation of The Man Without Fear sans Ben Affleck in leather pants. Netflix just cut a deal with Marvel Comics to bring the character to life, and are close to signing The Cabin in the Woods director Drew Goddard to pen the series. Goddard also wrote Cloverfield and World War Z and worked with the likes Joss Whedon and JJ Abrams on several TV series including Angel, Alias, Lost and Buffy the Vampire Slayer . Good geek pedigree, no? With Goddard on board, and the free creative reign Netflix has given collaborators on original shows like House of Cards and Hemlock Grove , this Daredevil series could be something special. We'll know for sure when it premieres next year. Daredevil Reboot Born Again

If you're a fan and long-time reader of Daredevil like me, this is a double dip of good news. The David Slade-directed reboot of the 2003 adaptation, which we discussed here , has hired Brad Caleb Kane on to pen the script. Kane is a writer and producer on Fox's brilliant TV series Fringe, which means the project is in the right hands. It also turns out that Kane is a Daredevil fan and has decided to adapt Frank Miller's Born Again run from the mid-80s as the plot for his film. Born Again is the definitive Daredevil tale! Karen Page, Matt Murdock's former lover, has traded away the Man Without Fear's secret identity for a drug fix. Now, Daredevil must find strength as the Kingpin of Crime wastes no time taking him down as low as a human can get. If done right, this could be a great and decidedly different comic book film. With Slade directing and Kane at the keyboard, I have high hopes for this relaunch.
