  I'm just going to jump right into things today.  No preamble.  No synopsis.  No dilly.  No dally. Read " Proof " by Alex Grecian and Riley Rossmo, and published by Image Comics. Why? Sasquatch. Sasquatch who talks. Talking Sasquatch who's part of a top secret government organization. Talking Sasquatch who's part of a top secret government organization that investigates and deals with paranormal and cryptozological threats. That's why. Great premise.  Great characters with charm and depth.  Great story lines with action, humour, drama, and personality.  Great cover art as displayed at the top.  Great interior art as displayed just below: See? I was highly impressed by this comic.  It's smartly written, with fascinating characters, engaging stories, and atmospheric and stylish art in and out. Give it a read- you won't be disappointed.  I certainly wasn't.  Sasquatch would give this a " Good "- and so do I.

I stumbled upon Hoax by accident. Yeah, I'd heard it was coming out, but didn't realize it had. Epic fail on my part... But hey; I did watch it! So there's that. Hoax is set up as a Bigfoot film. Given I'm associate producer on Eric Red's upcoming Sasquatch flick No Man's Ridge, I'm all about keeping up with the subgenera. You know, to see how ours will match up. There's a late third-act twist in Hoax that means Red's flick will be the most bad-ass Bigfoot movie of all time. Up until that twist, it still had nothing to worry about, but Hoax was at least a fun genre offering about a Bigfoot menacing an investigative film crew. Post twist, we got something else entirely. I don't want to give much away, but this twist changes things so much. The tone takes a big shift, and I just wasn't having as much fun anymore. It was a weird move on the part of writer Matt Allen (who also directs) and Scott Park, and almost sinks the movie. Almost....

It's been a while since we've been able to provide an update on writer/director Eric Red's upcoming Bigfoot flick No Man's Ridge, but we've got a doozy of one for you now. Production designer/co-producer John Gallagher has whipped up this mighty fine image of the titular Bigfoot in action, giving audiences a glimpse at what they can expect from this motion picture.

Bigfoot movies are a dime a dozen but the cold, hard, truth is most of them really aren't that good. For every Abominable and Exists, there's a bazillion low-budget clunkers that give the creature a bad name. Fortunately, writer/director Justin Lee's Big Legend is one of the good ones. Yup, gonna come right out and say it.

If you're a genre fan -- a TRUE genre fan -- then the name Eric Red means something to you. He wrote the genre classics The Hitcher, Blue Steel and Near Dark, and directed horror faves Body Parts, Bad Moon and 100 Feet. Now he's back with a new action/horror flick, one that tackles the most infamous monsters of all time: Bigfoot.

If The Lost Coast Tapes, Willow Creek and Exists proved anything, it's audiences -- at least horror audiences -- are into bigfoot. And why not? The legend is ripe for film adaptation. And the woods are a perfect setting for a scary movie. Big hairy monster in the woods. What's not to like. Not a question. A statement.

Despite his prevalence in popular culture, Bigfoot -- AKA Sasquatch -- hasn't taken off as a movie villain. Sure, the odd flick has been made, but not to the same degree as ghosts, aliens and other alleged supernatural phenomena.  Eduardo Sanchez, he who co-directed The Blair Witch Project, puts his stamp on the wannabe subgenera with Exists, which we've pimped with pleasure in The Basement. Given I'm of the belief that the world need more Bigfoot movies, Exists is something I've wanted to see for some time. Does it live up to the hype and Sanchez' legendary pedigree? Stick with me.

We've been talking about the upcoming found-footage Bigfoot movie The Lost Coast Tapes for more than a year now and FINALLY we've got a trailer upon which to pass judgement. As far as found-footage movies go, this looks pretty decent. We've got scares, a hot chick, the obligatory asshole TV-show host, and yes, Bigfoot.  But . . . and this is a heavy but . . . the only movie to do anything interesting with the rapidly fading found-footage genre as of late is V/H/S. Whether or not The Lost Coast Tapes can justify another entry we won't know until the film's release later this year. The Lost Coast Tapes stars Drew Rausch, Ashley Wood, Rich McDonald, Frank Ashmore and Noah Weisberg. As for the plot crunch: after a "Bigfoot Hunter" claims to possess the body of a dead Sasquatch, a disgraced investigative journalist stakes his comeback -- and the lives of his documentary film crew -- on proving the find to be a hoax.

We haven't heard much about director Corey Grant's The Lost Coast Tapes in a year, but word broke on the Interwebs today that the Sasquatch thriller has landed North American distribution with XLRator Media.  The deal was announced at Cannes yesterday, and potential deals are pending with G2 Pictures/Koch Media for Europe and New Select in Japan.  This is good news for what promises to be a decent horror romp. Aside from Abominable and some really shitty SyFy movies, the big hairy dude hasn't been well represented on film. The legend is due, and here's hoping The Lost Coast Tapes delivers. Is this a remake of the uniformly terrible TV movie of the same name from the late 1977s? Who's too say. Does it look as shitty as the Bo Svenson "classic"? Yes, and that means Shawn and I will be watching Snow Beast at some point. The latest film to feature the words snow and beast in the title stars Luke Duke himself John Schneider, Jason London and hotties Danielle Churchran and Kari Hawker (pictured). According to the boys over at Arrow In the Head and the film's official website , Snow Beast is scheduled for release August 29. Whether that's on SyFy or not remains to be seen, but Snow Beast feels like that kind of a movie. Snowbeast version 1977 featured a ravenous sasquatch that terrorized a Colorado ski resort.
