Vin Diesel's Bloodshot comes home March 24

Following in the footsteps of Universal Studios, Sony Pictures announced they will release Vin Diesel's comic-book inspired action flick Bloodshot to VOD next Tuesday... less than two weeks after it hit theatres! Universal already opted to bring The Invisible Man and The Hunt (which hit theatres within the last few weeks) home this Friday, and said the planned theatrical release of Trolls World Tour is off, and the movie comes home tomorrow. Movie theatres are closed around the world due to COVID-19, prompting studios to postpone some releases indefinitely, and bring others to the home market in unprecedented time. Bloodshot's digital purchase will go for $19.99. This is a bit different than what Universal offers, which is $19.99 for a 48-hour rental. Either way, the movie-distribution game just changed. Clearly, there is no need for a window between theatrical and digital release. I say unleash all movies at home and in theatres at the same time, and let audiences ch...

Universal and Blumhouse adapting new version of The Thing

A few weeks back I reviewed Frozen Hell , an updated version of John W. Campbell Jr.'s classic Who Goes There?, which inspired the film versions of The Thing. And I dug it. Although I didn't write it at the time, I was curious how long it would take someone to develop a film adaptation of this longer tale. Well, the wait is over as Universal Studios and Blumhouse have announced they're moving ahead with an adaptation of Frozen Hell. Executive producer Alan Donnes is overseeing the project, which he says is a remake of The Thing, but will include the new material from Campbell's original version of Who Goes There? That story is 45 pages longer than the novel that inspired The Thing From Another World and John Carpenter's The Thing. This will be the first time Campbell's original vision of the story will appear on the big screen, which makes me a little bit excited for the project. Yes, we've had remakes and reboots up the wazoo lately, but I'...

Elizabeth Banks to direct and star in Invisible Woman

Despite the quick and painful death of the cinematic Dark Universe, Universal Studios is determined to revitalize its classic monsters for modern cinema, and they're bringing Elizabeth Banks in to help. Yes, she's the one who blamed men for the bomb that is Charlie's Angels. And she's putting the whole men-won't-watch-a-movie-with-a-strong-female-lead thing to the test once again by directing and starring in Invisible Woman. This is, of course, a new take on the 1940's film of the same name. That movie was about an attractive model, with an ulterior motive, who volunteers to be a guinea pig for a science experiment. I'd like to point out Leigh Whannell's The Invisible man, which we highlighted right here , looks to feature a strong female lead in the form (not a sexual reference) of Elisabeth Moss. This new Invisible Woman is penned by Erin Cressida Wilson. No word yet on when we'll see it. In the meantime, Whannell's The Inv...

Glass trailer brings Split and Unbreakable together

Ohmygod, ohmygod, ohmygod! The first trailer for M. Night Shyamalan's Glass has arrived, and it is a thing of beauty! Fans have waited 17 years for a sequel to Unbreakable, not knowing Shyamalan snuck one in under the radar (kinda) with Split. Thankfully, that movie was a big hit, because the fine folks at Universal and Blumhouse put things in motion to bring the characters of The Beast, David Dunn and Mr. Glass together.

Retro Review: Highwaymen

I discovered the vehicular action/horror movie Highwaymen a decade ago, having sought it out because it was The Hitcher director Robert Harmon 's first foray into film in a long ass time. I dug the hell out of it, and quickly logged it on my Guilty Pleasure list. How does Highwaymen hold up 10 years down the road? Stick with me. Renny Cray embarks on a bloodthirsty rampage to avenge the death of his wife, who was struck down by a serial killer -- a man who hunts and kills women using his '72 El Dorado.

Fast and Furious 7 resumes filming in April

There's no doubt that Fast and Furious fans are going to miss Paul Walker , but cameras are almost ready to roll again on the latest instalment in the blockbuster franchise. Word hit the Interwebs today that production resumes on Fast and Furious 7 in April, just five months after Walker died in a fiery car crash .

UPDATED: First Fast & Furious 7 teaser poster hits the web

Well, it seems like that cool poster below is fan made and was released via a fake Vin Diesel Twitter account. How do we know this? Because director James Wan said so via his Twitter account . And it's the real deal. He also acknowledges it's a pretty damn good poster! Our bad, and sorry if we got anyone too excited :) Here is the original post:

Production on Fast and Furious 7 halted

Given the tragic death of Paul Walker , Universal Pictures has shut down production on Fast and Furious 7 indefinitely. Which isn't to say the film won't happen, but studio bigwigs need to figure out what to do next without one of the franchise's biggest stars. And, as a Universal press release stated earlier today, now is not the time to think business: “Right now, all of us at Universal are dedicated to providing support to Paul’s immediate family and our extended Fast & Furious family of cast, crew and filmmakers. At this time we feel it is our responsibility to shut down production on Fast & Furious 7 for a period of time so we can assess all options available to move forward with the franchise. We are committed to keeping Fast & Furious fans informed, and we will provide further information to them when we have it. Until then, we know they join us in mourning the passing of our dear friend Paul Walker.” I can only hope they don't do s...

R.I.P. Paul Walker

Actor Paul Walker , perhaps best know for his role in The Fast and the Furious movies , has died. He was 40 and leaves behind a 15-year-old daughter. Word has it he was a passenger in a friend's car when the vehicle crashed. His death was confirmed in a tweet by New Regency productions . He was attending a charity event for Reach Out Worldwide at the time. Walker was working on the latest Fast and Furious movie under director James Wan and had another film, Hours, slated for release this month. A statement by Universal: "All of us at Universal are heartbroken. Paul was truly one of the most beloved and respected members of our studio family for 14 years, and this loss is devastating to us, to everyone involved with the 'Fast and Furious' films, and to countless fans." While the Fast and Furious movies were Walker's gravy train, he also did stellar work in the flick Running Scared , a Basement favourite. No one likes to see someone's life end...

Universal will reboot Timecop

And somewhere God has killed a kitten. Do we really need a Timecop reboot? No. Nor have we needed any of the bazillion reboots that smothered multiplexes the last several years. But this won't stop producers Marc Shmuger and Tom McNulty from putting a new spin on Jean-Claude Van Damme 's 1994 hit. Much like the Total Recall redo, this Timecop won't be a straight-up remake, but a re-imagining of the concept. Whatever the fuck that means. Van Damme 's version followed a police officer for a security agency that regulates time travel as he fends for his life against a shady politician who has ties to his past. Does anyone care? No. Will this stop the new Timecop from being made? No. Suffice to say JCVD is not involved, nor will anyone do the splits. Rest in Peace Department comes alive July 19th

The past few years have seen many comic books being adapted for the big screen and the small screen - and they've run the spectrum from The Avengers to The Walking Dead .  This summer will see a few more of them, including "Rest In Peace Department". German director Robert Schwentke will be directing this adaptation of of the Dark Horse comic, which is going by the shortened name of "R.I.P.D".  Ryan Reynolds and Jeff Bridges have been tapped to star in this Universal Pictures foray. Reynolds plays Nick Cruz Walker- a recently murdered cop who agrees to join an undead police force keeping the supernatural peace in the hopes of finding the person responsible for his death. This movie has the potential to be as cool as the first "Men in Black" movie... or as lame as the third one. "R.I.P.D." will be in theatres July 19th. Universal adapting "young adult" sci-fi novel

Rather than taking taking movies meant for adults , and watering them down to be suitable for young adults, maybe the studios should make movies that are geared towards that age group to begin with, right?   Well, Universal Pictures is doing that in the form of a movie adaptation of Josin L. McQuein's upcoming young adults novel, " Arclight ".  They are also working on adapting a supernatural novel by Julie Kagawa.   Brian Grazer from Imagine Entertainment and Pouya Shahbasian of New Leaf Literary & Media will be producing the film that will have  scripted done by Matthew Sand, while Erica Huggins and Sarah Bowen of Imagine will exec produce.  The story takes place in a post-apocalyptic future, and follows the adventures of a teen with no memory who arrives at a settlement that's protected by Arclight.   McQuein was paid $500,000.00 by Greenwillow Books in 2011 for a two book deal.  " Arclight " will...
