Fans of the Halloween franchise have finally been thrown a bone as Dimension Films announced today that a pair of writers were hired to bring horror icon Michael Myers back to the big screen. And this duo knows a thing or two about masked killers and mayhem, as they co-wrote four of the Saw films and were the brains behind the two Collector movies, not to mention Piranha 3DD (didn't see it).

The Collection Shawn: Talk about GORNOPOLIS! Ha ha . Just when I think I needed it the most. Sure, The Collector , (prequel), isn't even worth the memory of my watch, but don't let that stop you from seeing this.This was put together well. Like the Saw movies , it had satisfying gore. Shawn and I are ready to share our thoughts on The Collection -- the sequel to Marcus Dunstan 's The Collector -- tomorrow night (same Bat time, same Bat channel). The Collector was an OK horror outing, but The Collection is supposed to take things to the next level. Now we've learned that Dunstan has written a third film in the series. And he shared some deets with the folks at Crave Online . Here's what he had to say: "It is Collected right now. Yeah, we've been pimpin' the Marcus Dunstan's gore porn sequel The Collection for a while now, and we're not even huge fans of the original. But . . . and this is a heavy but . . . there's something about this follow up that just looks so . . . bloody! The more I see of Marcus Dunstan's sequel The Collection the keener I am to watch it. As we've said here before, The Collector was OK at best, but this flick looks to up the ante. That's fine with us! The sequel picks up soon after The Collector ends. Arkin (Josh Stewart) escapes with his life from the vicious grips of The Collector during an entrapment party where the villain adds beautiful Elena (Emma Fitzpatrick, pictured above) to his collection. Instead of recovering from the trauma, Arkin is suddenly abducted from the hospital by mercenaries hired by Elena's wealthy father. Arkin is blackmailed to team up with the mercenaries and track down The Collector's booby trapped warehouse and save Elena. No real dialogue in the clip below, but I dig the flicker effect with the lights and the way The Collector slides his way into the scene. Very John Carpenter. Shawn and I didn't mind the Saw-inspired horror film The Collector. We caught it in between our podcast season and our first season on 92.5FM The X and haven't formally reviewed it on the show. But it'd say it rates a Bad. Surprise surprise, The Collector was just popular enough to inspire a sequel, which is appropriately enough called The Collection and has been picked up by Lidell Entertainment for distribution. The Collection is currently in post production and no release date has been set. Given that the first film did better at home than in theatres, I wouldn't be surprised if this goes straight to DVD. The film stars Josh Stewart, Johnny Yong Bosch, Emma Fitzpatrick and Shannon Kane. As for the plot? The Collection picks up where The Collector left off, with anti-hero Arkin hired to rescue Elena, who was kidnapped in the first film, from The Collector's booby trapped hideout.  I enjoyed The Collector enough that I'm willing to give its sequel a try.
