Veteran of the Star Wars: "Episode Nine: The Rise of Skywalker" (2019)

Today marks the end of the war... the Star Wars... Nah, not really.  It just marks the end of this particular series of reviews... Palpatine has returned to threaten the galaxy.  Luke Skywalker is dead. Supreme Leader Kylo searches out this new threat to his power while Rey takes her final steps to fulfilling her Jedi destiny... The story for " The Rise of Skywalker " is actually pretty brilliant.  I loved that they brought back the original fantasy tone to the franchise.  While it's a little disappointing that there was not plot line for Finn or Poe to really follow, it does make a lot of sense that for the penultimate instalment of the Skywalker Saga, they would focus more on the two main ones for Kylo and Rey. These two stories run parallel to each other- and echo each other nicely.  This story telling technique really helps to enhance the theme of balance and the fact that the Sith and Jedi are similar in many ways. While I was really quite disappo...

Review: Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

My wife and I have a Christmas tradition, which is we go see a new Star Wars movie together on the years one is released. We wait a week or so to avoid the craziness that comes with a new entry in the franchise, and have yet to be disappointed. That's right, we liked Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker! I admit, I was a little leery about this one, as critics and fans have been less than enthusiastic. And the film does get off to a bumpy start, with a shaky first act and far too much exposition early on. Then things settle into the story, and the fun begins. Sure, a lot of the humour doesn't work, and for a good chunk of the running time The Rise of Skywalker plays like any other decent Hollywood blockbuster. It's got the action, the spectacle and it's entertaining. That's all great, but it didn't feel like Star Wars. Then something happens toward the end of the second act... something I didn't expect... and The Rise of Skywalker became a Star Wars movi...

Thrash Wrestling, 6 Underground and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

Didn't have the chance to get in the ring with us last night? Well, never fear; From The Basement is here with a podcast version of last night's show on the mighty Radio NL 610 AM Kamloops! Wanna listen again? That's fine too! It's what we're here for... what we're trained for... This week The Basement Boys talked Thrash Wrestling with promoter Justin Griffore. What's Thrash Wrestling? It's to wrestling what indie film is to film, and it's taking the Interior of British Columbia by storm. Justin, Jason and Shawn have a great chat about this entertaining event, and give you the 411 on how it works, and when future events are. But this is a movie show, and the Terrible Trio dug into Netflix's blockbuster 6 Underground from director Michael Bay and superstar Ryan Reynolds. Is it worth your time? Stick with us! And stick around for the weekend rundown of all things entertainment, including a discussion on some movie about a war in the stars...

Thrash Wrestling gets 6 Underground with The Rise of Skywalker

It's a day 42 years in the making, and one that's already divided fans and critics. Yup, if anything can drive a wedge between its fanbase, yet guarantee they'll keep coming back for more, it is Star Wars. Today is the official release of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, and despite mixed reviews, the film is poised to open big. Like really big. Maybe not Avengers: Endgame big, but big! Jason and Shawn are gonna chime in on the final chapter of the Skywalker saga, but that's not the focus of tonight's episode on the mighty Radio NL 610 AM Kamloops. Nope, tonight is all about wrestling -- Thrash Wrestling, to be exact. Promotor Justin Griffore joins The Basement Boys in studio at 6:05, and he's gonna shed some light on what indie wrestling is all about, why it's catching on throughout the Interior, and how it's great entertainment value for your buck. Interested? Of course you are, so stick with us! And stick around as Jason, Shawn and Justin r...

New Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker clip reveals Palpatine's role in the sequels

OK, so we were all a little surprised to learn Emperor Palpatine would return for The Rise of Skywalker. It was the kind of filmmaking move guaranteed to get fans talking, and amp up excitement for the final chapter in the Skywalker saga. Today, Disney and Lucasfilm dropped a bomb of sorts with a new clip teasing the role Palpatine has played in the Star Wars universe since the end of Return of the Jedi. It's a bit spoilery, so you've been warned. All I know is I'm just a little more excited for this one than I was about 10 minutes ago. You ready for this? View this post on Instagram Nothing will prepare you for the end. Watch an exclusive clip from Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. See it in theaters December 20! "They fly now" in first Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker clip

There's less than a month to go until Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker hits theatres, and the Disney marketing machine is in full swing. I was hesitant to post this clip, which came out earlier today. Like many, I want to go into this thing as cold as possible. Then I said "what the hell" and watched it anyway. And now I post it here for those of you who also have a Devil-may-care attitude. Enjoy! The Rise of Skywalker hits theatres Dec. 20, and J.J. Abrams and company have promised to conclude the entire Skywalker saga with this one. Then we get a three-year break before any more stand-alone films surface. Oh, and this ninth entry in the series clocks in at two hours and 35 minutes, so go pee before it starts. Just FYI. Source: Star Wars

The Rise of Skywalker ticket sales break Endgame's record

So the backlash against The Last Jedi resulted in a movement calling for a boycott of the final film in the Skywalker saga. Yes, people have that much free time on their hands. Wonder what that's like? Looks like the movement officially collapsed following the unveiling of The Rise of Skywalker's final trailer last night, as Atom Tickets reports it sold more on-line tickets in one hour for Skywalker than any other film in history, including previous title holder Avengers: Endgame. The fact The Rise of Skywalker and Avengers: Endgame are technically Disney flicks means the Mouse House is having a very good year! Forbes reporter Scott Mendelson took to Twitter to deliver the news: For what it's worth, @atomtickets is reporting that #StarWars #TheRiseOfSkywalker sold more tickets in the first hour of pre-sales than any movie in the company's history, besting #AvengersEndgame . — Scott Mendelson (@ScottMendelson) October 22, 2019 Does this surprise anyone?...

The end is near in this final Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker trailer

I don't know how it happened, but this final trailer for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker made me a little misty eyed. It might be the fact the nine-part Skywalker saga concludes with this entry, and the story has been a huge part of my life for most of my life. It could have been the moody use of the Star Wars theme. Or it could be the way C-3P0 says "I'm taking one last look, at my friends," and we know he's really talking to us, the fans... All I know is I've got a case of the feels for Star Wars in a way I haven't had since seeing the first footage from The Force Awakens. Oh, and we're promised one mother of a battle too. Colour me excited! Now watch the trailer, my Padawan Jedi: The Rise of Skywalker has J.J. Abrams back in the director's chair, and stars Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac and one Billy Dee Williams. It opens everywhere Dec. 20. Source: Star Wars

Star Wars returns to cinemas in 2022

Don't worry, Star Wars nerds (which I am one of), The Rise of Skywalker still comes out this December. But Disney has unveiled a full slate of films through Christmas of 2022, and the next round of flicks from that galaxy far, far away are gonna be a few years out. According to the fine folks at io9 , the next Star Wars film after Episode IX won't appear until the weekend before Christmas, 2022. Then we'll get three new Star Wars films every second Christmas after that.

The Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker teaser

Gotta admit, having just watched the teaser for Star Wars Episode IX, officially titled, The Rise of Skywalker, I was a little emotional. Hearing Luke's voice over, seeing Lando co-piloting the Falcon with Chewie, and yes, having Carrie Fisher appear as Princess Leia one last time, I feel more than a little excited to catch this final chapter in the Skywalker saga come Christmas.
