Shawn versus Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Shawn here, reporting in, sir. Last weekend our "free movie tickets" expired.  We had to use them up. Wasn't much playing at our local theater, that we could all go see as a family, that wouldn't cause someone to fall asleep or eat all the popcorn during the previews. So, we settled on Capt'n America. I didn't enjoy the first Cap very much, so I wasn't looking forward to this. But I did enjoy The Avengers . Here's the thing.  If the movie, derived from a comic book , doesn't give me eye candy, I'll read the comic.  The first Captain America fell short there and was too long in the story, in my opinion.. What they did in the second one, was similar to how stories are laid out, in cartoon series' of The Avengers or Justice League...for example.

RoboCop throws down with ED-209 in this new clip

Finally, we get to see some of the action on display in the new RoboCop , which hits theatres next month. Given the flick is rated PG -13 for gun violence , there's an appropriate amount of shooting in this clip. Guns, guns, guns, as Clarence J. Boddicker once said.

Die Hard 6 scribe spills some deets

Whether the world needs another Die Hard movie or not, a sixth film in the 25-year-old franchise is headed our way thanks to screenwriter Ben Trebilcook. And the flick, which is titled Die Hardest , is said to take place in Japan. Doesn't sound like a Die Hard movie at all, does it. Well, technically, neither were Live Free or Die Hard or A Good Day to Die Hard , although I enjoyed both on their own terms. Trebilcook recently sat down with the folks at What Culture to discuss his script for the next installment. If this comes to pass, it will be the first original screenplay for a Die Hard film, the others having been adapted from other scripts sitting around the studio. Here's what he had to say about setting the film in Japan : OK, without spoiling too much, I can say that McClane is invited to Tokyo by the Nakatomi Corporation to be commended for his bravery and efforts in saving 36 lives, celebrating this on the 30th anniversary of the Naktatomi Hostage Cris...

Latest RoboCop trailer thanks you for your co-operation

Two things about this new trailer for the RoboCop remake: 1) I hate to say it, but I like what I see. 2) It will do nothing to sway those in the Internet community who don't want the flick to exist. I don't either, but director Jose Padilha has taken the ideas planted in Paul Verhoeven 's original and run with them. This is a remake that brings something more to the table than a retelling of the old story. I will see it on that merit alone. And it's got Michael Keaton as a corporate bad dude and Samuel L. Jackson using the phrase "robophobic." Sold! Now for the trailer, bitches: In 2028 Detroit , when Alex Murphy ( Joel Kinnaman ) -- a loving husband, father and good cop -- is critically injured in the line of duty, the multinational conglomerate OmniCorp sees their chance for a part-man, part-robot police officer.  The new RoboCop shoots up theatres Feb. 12. Jason (finally) versus Django Unchained

Coming at a movie long after everyone else on the planet has seen it can be tough. Others' perceptions will impact how a flick, especially one as well received as Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained , plays for the viewer. But a rainy afternoon, an HD projector, a fridge full of beer and a enough chili to feed an army warranted sitting down and giving this almost three-hour western a go.  With the help of a German bounty hunter , a freed slave sets out to rescue his wife from a brutal Mississippi plantation owner.  I'll come right out and say it, Django is Tarantino's best flick. It's his most complete work, and best shows off his talent for dialogue, music and violence without compromising what is a loving homage to the spaghetti western . Django is, quite simply, brilliant. How much so? The two-hour-and-45-minute run time blows by. I was never bored, not even for a second. No line of dialogue is out of place, each character is expertly written and per...

Dead or alive, it's the RoboCop remake trailer

Aside from the fact the world hasn't screamed for a RoboCop remake, nor does it need one, this trailer isn't half bad. Not at all. For one, Jose Padilha 's flick brings enough new cards to the table that remaking a 26-year-old movie almost feels justified. And I dig the cast, including Michael Keaton , Gary Oldman and Samuel L. Jackson . As for Alex Murphy /RoboCop, I'm curious to see what The Killing 's Joel Kinnaman brings to the table. I certainly got me some goosebumps when he uttered that classic line, "Dead or alive, you're coming with me." And yeah, the new suits looks better in motion, but can't hold a candle to the original. Judge for yourselves, and sound off: When Alex Murphy -- a loving husband, father and good cop -- is critically injured in the line of duty, the multinational conglomerate OmniCorp sees their chance for a part-man, part-robot police officer.
