First up, Jason interviews Mallory Bechtel, star of the new movie Know Fear, which hits everywhere on DVD and Digital today. Mallory was last seen in the acclaimed Hereditary, and hails from Broadway. But she's in full horror mode once again with Know Fear, a demonic-possession tale with a twist. Spurred by the recent entries in the video-game series, I decided to see how 2002's Resident Evil film holds up. While it's decent enough, it really misses out on the game's potential. It decides not to set the story in the iconic mansion, and leans more toward action than horror. While the games aren't pure horror, the tense survival aspect is essential to the experience. The other missing element is the maze-like mansion that was the star of the game. Its cryptic design and Victorian decor juiced the atmosphere and drew you into the story. Weirdly enough they included the mansion, but only gave it a measly scene and a half of screen time. Resident Evil: The Movie honestly isn't that bad, it's just a shame it wasn't as fun -- and true to the game -- as it could've been. I still recommend a watch, at least to see the 2000s sheen on it in all its glory. It's pretty much a Good.

We've got a pretty slick interview this morning, plus the usual rundown of what to watch heading into the weekend. That means it's once again time for From The Basement to storm the Radio NL 610 AM Morning Show! And what, pray tell, is this interview? Eric Red made a name for himself in Hollywood in the 1980s with his dark genre screenplays The Hitcher, which was made into a cult hit starring Rutger Hauer, and the vampire tale Near Dark, directed by future Oscar winner Kathryn Bigelow. He also went on to direct such favourites as Body Parts, Cohen and Tate and 100 Feet.

Hot chicks . Action. What more needs to be said about an all-female action film starring some of the hottest action chicks of all time? The project was pitched when Sylvester Stallone 's The Expendables took off a few years back. Now The ExpendaBelles is ready to move forward as a director and plot synopsis hit the interwebs.

Even though we are taking a "break" from The Basement, I still feel compelled to write a highly chauvinistic and sexist look back to the 90's era and the "hotties" it produced.  Not all of them, just my favourite (s). The reason for this post is that I came to a startling revelation. I made a graaaave error, that was still rewarded with goodness, over the years.........Ha. This past weekend I watched some 90's flicks. Two, in particular, caught my eye. The first was The 5th Element . Milla Jovovich .Who I had come to believe, as I look back from afar, is my favorite hottie of the 90s. BUT here is my mistake.The second movie I also watched was Species . This is when the realization had set in -- that it was Natasha Henstridge who was the one I liked most. I had mixed them up. Simple mistake. Although, very clear to me now. And The Expendables 3 reunites series mainstays Sylvester Stallone , Jason Statham and Jet Li. Along for the ride are Mickey Rourke , Wesley Snipes , Jackie Chan , and Nicolas *spits* Cage. Veteran action hottie Mila Jovovich is in negotiations to join the cast and rumour has it Fat Steven Seagal buried the hatchet with Stallone and could come on board. To tell the truth, I'm surprised at how popular these Resident Evil movies are. Only one of them, Extinction, is really any good. The rest are passable enough time killers made only mildly interesting by the presence of the Milla Jovovich -- one of the few convincing action heroines on the planet. What Sony has done right with all the films, which will number five by the time Resident Evil: Retribution hits theatres this fall, is the marketing. These movies are sold really well, and that trend continues with the latest offering. I like the way this trailer opens, I really do. It harkens back to the first film, which teased us with a commercial and then hit us with the goods. The last bit of footage makes Retribution look like any other Resident Evil movie, but if you dig them, that's why you're gonna go see it.
