So if you're not listening, get with the times! And we've got a gooder (proper English) for you this week, with even more of our interview with Greg Lamberson, writer/director of the new horror flick Widow's Point starring Craig Sheffer. And stay tuned, as Jason and Shawn take on Bill & Ted Face the Music, a sequel 29 years in the making, and Rogue (2020), which pits hottie Megan Fox up against a man-eating lion. Bill & Ted go Rogue and Face the Music from The Devil and Father Amorth

The Basement Boys are back for another round of entertainment -- and entertaining -- radio to kick off your September. Just what have they got on deck this week, when they take to the Radio NL 610 AM airwaves at 10:05 this morning? Reviews of two big releases and an interview with a veteran genre director, that's what! Jason sat down with Greg Lamberson, writer/director of the new horror flick Widow's Point starring Craig Sheffer, which he reviewed on our last episode. He and Greg discuss Widow's Point and its literary origins, and how the film is a far cry from his past horror films. Then The Dynamic Duo put the first big release to come down the pike in a long time -- Bill & Ted Face the Music -- on the chopping block. Do they deem this sequel, which was a brewin' for some 29 years, worth the wait? They also tackle Megan Fox's killer lion movie Rogue, and a slew of other films too legion to count. But one of them is an exorcist documentary from Willi...

Review: Bill & Ted Face the Music

I'm not sure we really needed another Bill & Ted movie, given the last effort came out in 1991. I'm thinking the only reason we got one is because of the world's current love affair with Keanu Reeves. And hey, he seems like an awesome dude, so why not. It's funny how Reeves was so associated with Ted that it took a good, long time for moviegoers to embrace him in any other kind of role. Now that he's created another iconic character, John Wick, I found it hard to accept him as Ted... who is about the furthest thing from Wick as you can get. And it took a while for me to accept this new Bill & Ted movie too... like at least a half hour to 40 minutes. There are few laughs up until then, and the film's goofy charm had to work overtime to win me over. But once Bill & Ted start travelling into the future to find a song that will unite mankind and prevent the collapse of all time, and their daughters (well played by Samara Weaving and Brigette Lundy-...

Marshal Hilton returns, You Should Have Left, and The Courier

Friday night has come and gone, and with it the latest successful broadcast From The Basement on the mighty Radio NL 610 AM Kamloops. But fear not, as there's this -- the podcast version of last night's show! And we've got even more of our interview with veteran actor Marshal Hilton! How much more? Like the full 25-minute chat between Jason and Marshal. They cover everything from Marshal's latest film, A Clear Shot, and working with the legendary Mario Van Peebles, to his role in the Bigfoot flick Primal Rage. Jason and Marshal cover a lot of ground, and it's a great conversation for movie fans. Stick with us, though, as Jason and Shawn have a bunch of reviews for your ear holes. The Dynamic Duo have seen Kevin Bacon and Amanda Seyfried's latest, You Should Have Left, as well as The Courier starring Olga Kurylenko and Gary Oldman. Plus Shawn caught up with Keanu Reeves in Replicas. But that's not all! There aren't any movies to see this summer,...

Bill & Ted Face the Music in a most excellent trailer

Back in the early 90s, if you'd told me a movie called Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure would become a cult classic, I'd of said no way... dude! But here we are some 30 years later, and the latest instalment in the Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter franchise is ready to be unleashed upon the world. And, judging from this trailer, Reeves and Winter haven't missed a beat. Check it: Yup, the boys are once again travelling through time, partying with death, and playing some metal music. And we in The Basement believe this is most excellent. As of now, Bill & Ted Face the Music is scheduled for an August release. We hope this remains true. Source: Orion Pictures

Marcus Flor vs. Bram Stoker's Dracula

In this cooped up time, I was in the mood for a classic, gothic horror story. I somewhat got that in Bram Stoker's Dracula. It's an interesting mixed bag, this film; trying so hard to be this sweeping horror epic, while not quite hitting the mark. It certainly looks the part, with its surreal, dream-like cinematography. While a bit over-the-top at times, it paints a very vivid view of this world. However, as pretty as it looks, I felt detached from the story. It felt like the plot was an after thought; that we were coasting through each scene to get to the next big image or set piece. It felt more like the writer was checking off boxers rather than telling an organic story. The acting here is also mixed. On the one hand, you have Gary Oldman and Anthony Hopkins, bringing their characters to life and selling them at 110 per cent. On the other, you have a young Keanu Reeves acting on par with a cardboard cut out. To summarize: I'm a little underwhelmed with 1992...

Pre-order Cyberpunk 2077 now and save

It's not due out until fall, but pre-orders are a go for CD Projekt Red's massive open-world game Cyberpunk 2077. And, if you pre-order now, you save $10; be it on PS4 , Xbox One or PC ! So the price is an even $50 no matter the platform. Cyperpunk 2077 takes place in the not-so-distant future where good AND bad guys are jacked up with cybernetic enhancements. Life is A-OK until it's discovered there's a prototypical component that grants immortality to whoever has it installed. Naturally, all hell breaks loose as everyone tries to get it. The game hits PS4, XBox One and PC on Sept. 17. Pre-order now, and Amazon offers the lowest price if it drops before the release date. Source: The Inventory

Marcus Flor vs. Constantine

How much exposition do you need in a movie? This is the question I asked myself while rewatching Constantine. It's an interesting time capsule to the mid 2000s, having aged well in some areas, and not so well in others. One area that stuck out was how it adapted its source material. You might not know it, but Johnny Constantine comes from the comic Hellblazer. You might not know it, but this film seems to think you do. A lot happens in this movie that goes over-explained, or not explained at all. So much occult stuff gets glazed over, it feels like you're getting half the story. This isn't to say there isn't stuff to enjoy here. There definitely is. I like the way it plays with the lore of angels and demons, making a world that's similar to ours, but different at the same time. The characters/actors aren't too bad either. They serve the story well enough. All in all, Constantine is a middle-of-the-road 2000s flick. It's a Good, and I'd recommen...

Mike S catches up with John Wick: Chapter 3- Parabellum (2019)

Holy shit balls!  2019's " John Wick: Chapter 3- Parabellum " grabs you by the scrote, and doesn't let go until you're singing the high notes! I have to skip a synopsis, because there is no way I can sum up the plot of this movie, and do it any sort of fucking justice!  This is just an amazing addition to the John Wick franchise.  The story itself kicks into high gear right where the second one ended, and just adds so much more to everything involved.  The story is tight, fast, and deep at times- while adding a shitload of large and small details to the world John Wick inhabits, and bringing you characters that you will love, and respect- including the antagonists involved.  I loved the addition of the almost religious undertones added as a foundational glue to the assassin world and society. Just a perfect example of world building in a movie franchise.  It keeps things fresh by expanding the world and the mythos behind it, without going overboard....

Having My Say: Do we need a Matrix 4?

News broke yesterday afternoon that Warner Bros. is moving forward with a fourth entry in The Matrix franchise. And, not surprisingly, Keanu Reeves will be back as Neo and Carrie-Anne Moss as Trinity. Lana Wachowski, who created the series with her sister, Lily, will return as writer and director. The first Matrix was mind blowing when it hit in early 1999 (yup, 20 years ago). The back-to-back sequels were back-to-back letdowns. Not without their moments, but nowhere near the quality of the first film. I'm not sure if its my age, my lack of enthusiasm for The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions, or some combination of the two, but I can't get excited for more Matrix movies. It just feels like a cash grab on the nostalgia train. Not every franchise from 20 years ago needs to be brought back. Sure, things were left open at the end of Revolutions. It's all just a computer program, and it's easy to reboot things, so to speak. But I'd rather see ...

John Wick returns in 2021

There is a God, and he has granted action fans' wishes. We're getting more John Wick in the near future. This news comes on the heels of John Wick Chapter 3's huge critical and box-office success this past weekend, and shouldn't come as a surprise. Parabellum didn't exactly finish off Mr. Wick, or the story. Suffice to say there's at least one more round in the John Wick cannon.

Review: John Wick Chapter 3 - Parabellum

John Fucking Wick! Never before in the annals of cinema has there been an action franchise quite like this series of Keanu Reeves awesomeness. Not even his Matrix films come close to the pure, brutal, visceral joy that is a John Wick movie.

A Dog's Journey gets John Wicked

The weather has turned hot (well, not today), the days long and lazy, and Hollywood has officially launched its slate of Big Summer Movies! That's right; all caps! These are Big! Summer! Movies! And Jason, Shawn and Howie are here to tell you which Big Summer Movies you need to keep your eyes peeled for on the Radio NL 610 AM Morning Show!

The dogs fight back in this new John Wick 3 trailer

Ohboyohboyohboy! Like I wasn't excited enough for John Wick Chapter 3: Parabellum. Now they've gone done and released a new trailer for the blood-soaked sequel, and I'm even more stoked to see Keanu Reeves shoot pretty much everyone. And yes, the dogs do fight back in this movie, the promised conclusion to John Wick's story. However, if this flick is as good as the first two, I could watch a million more of these movies.

Prepare for war: the John Wick 3 trailer has arrived!

The trailer for John Wick Chapter 3 - Parabellum has arrived, and if this doesn't get you pumped to see the movie, then I question your man or womanhood. What more needs to be said? Nothing! Just watch:

John Wick 3 lands a slick new poster

We're just four months out from the release of John Wick Chapter 3 - Parabellum, and we've not yet seen a lick of footage. But that's OK, as anticipation for this sequel is high enough as is. But today we do have a first look at the movie's poster, which is just pure awesome, in my not-so-humble opinion.

The 6th Friend, Replicas, The Upside and A Dog's Way Home

Last weekend there was nothing, but this weekend there's three big releases and one film in limited release that every horror fan needs to check out. And Jason and Shawn are here to tell you all about 'em! For starters, scream queen Jamie Bernadette stars, co-wrote and produced the slasher movie The 6th Friend, and it's been granted a limited theatrical run today. How cool is that? Given the Basement Boys have seen it, and will put the flick on the chopping block, it could be very cool indeed. What'd they think? Stick with us!

Replicas finds The Upside to A Dog's Way Home

There's a trio of new movies headed your way this weekend, promising something for everyone. Well, as long as you like sci-fi, drama, comedy or dogs. Come to think of it, that pretty much IS everyone! And Jason, Shawn and Howie give you the rundown on all three movies, so your box-office dollar is well spent. Don't thank them now -- it's what today's segment on the mighty Radio NL 610 AM Morning Show is all about.

John Wick: Chapter Two gets a plot

Well, a plot synopsis anyway. The flick already had a plot, hopefully long before it went into production, although stranger things have happened with movies. Stranger indeed. But the folks over at Collider have dug up what will set the titular John Wick off this time around, and fans can rest easy -- people leave his dog and car alone.

Witness Keanu Reeves' firearm training for John Wick 2

Any self-respecting movie fan knows how hardcore Keanu Reeves is when it comes to training for an action movie. The man became a black belt for The Matrix movies, and worked hard for months to get ready for the awesome fights scenes in the first John Wick. The below video popped up online showing Reeves doing firearm training for his upcoming John Wick: Chapter 2, and it is nothing short of jaw dropping. This guy needs to become my BFF. Seriously.
