Smiley Jason: Your enjoyment of Smiley will hinge 100 per cent on what you think of the last five minutes. There are allusions made to how Smiley ends throughout the film, so it doesn't hit you totally by surprise. But it is still almost clever enough an ending to blindside you. It does make Smiley an unconventional slasher movie , and reminded me a bit of the 2005 thriller Cry Wolf. Take from that what you will. Smiley works because it's different, and I dug that. But, once you know the surprise, it likely won't be as cool the second time. So I gotta give Smiley a Bad. Still, a decent one-off. And worth the watch for horror fans. Shawn: A great solitary watch. I Am Bruce Lee Bruce Lee is universally recognized as the pioneer who elevated martial arts in film to an art form, and this documentary attempts reveal why Bruce Lee's flame burns brighter now than the day he died over three decades ago. The greatest martial artists, athletes, actors, directors, and producers in the entertainment business today share their feelings about the one who started it all.  Shawn: I Am Bruce Lee doesn’t bring anything fresh to the story of Bruce Lee that a die hard Bruce Lee fan doesn’t already know.  It does put a Spike TV spin on it, and brings in a few extra people, which was neat.  I was particularly fond of the respect shown by Dana White and his UFC crew. By now it should be no secret that Jason and Shawn -- Shawn especially -- are hard-core Bruce Lee fans. He's the Elvis of martial arts, a worldwide fighting icon, and the debated father of Mixed Martial Arts. And he made some fucking good movies. Whether you're a movie fan or a martial arts fan, it's hard not to be interested in the life and times of Bruce Lee. Which is why our resident Basement Dwellers are keen to dive into Pete McCormack's documentary on the master, I Am Bruce Lee. Giving weight to the project is the support of Lee's wife, Linda Lee Cadwell, and daughter, Shannon Lee. But do we really need to know what basketball player Kobe Bryant and some guy from The Black Eyed Peas thinks of Lee? I suppose everyone is entitled to an opinion. If Shawn doesn't demand we review this documentary on the show I'm going to throat punch an infant. Not MY infant mind you, but a mutant zombie one for sure. The legendary martial artist died way too young, depriving the world of his talent, philosophies, and wicked cool movies. Basement Dwellers will remember that Enter the Dragon was Shawn's pick for our first Movies You Need To See Before You Die episode, and I cannot disagree. No one rocked it like Bruce Lee. Along comes this documentary made with the co-operation of Lee's daughter, Shannon Lee, and wife, Linda Lee Cadwell. The focus of the film is on Lee (duh) and those who have been influenced by his legacy and beliefs. The project also promises to show us rare footage and photographs of the Father of Martial Arts. Sign me up! I love a good doc, and who isn't hungry for a little more of Bruce Lee? The film hits theatres in limited release Feb. 9.

Enter the Dragon Jason: Watching this again, for the first time in 25 years, I realized I had forgotten how great Bruce Lee was. He didn't need wire work, fancy camera tricks or CGI to make his mastery of the martial arts impressive. All a director had to do was turn the camera on and Lee delivered. No one, not Tony Jaa, Jackie Chan or Jet Li had moves like Lee. He's still is the master. And Enter the Dragon is still a lot of fun. A Good for sure. Shawn: Here is a movie that's older than I am, and everything I've done in my life in terms of martial arts has stemmed from this movie. Whether YOU hate it or love it, you can't go without seeing it at least once, especially if you call yourself a movie fan. Not just for broadening your cinematic horizons, but for the straight-up legitimate kung fu action! Bruce Lee at his finest. A Good from me! Ladies and gentlemen, Mr. Bruce Lee! Tonight, Shawn and I are going to share two movies we think you need to see. Perhaps you already have, perhaps not, but we're going to put out a suggestion each for films we think NEED to be a part of every movie fan's collection. Coming up with our selections wasn't easy. There's a lot of great films out there and picking just one took a lot of effort, which is why we will revisit the subject from time to time, building the ultimate Basement movie library. Being a martial artist, Shawn went with Bruce Lee's 1973 classic Enter the Dragon, the first martial arts film produced by a major Hollywood studio.
