Things get twisted in Clownado

Because sharks and tornados weren't bad enough, someone saw fit to bring clowns into the mix and Clownado was born. Yup, Clownado... I'll let you chew on that one and grab a beer.

Movies You Need to See Before You Die Vol. 3 and an interview with Steven C. Miller

Back by popular demand is a third volume of We Came from the Basement's ever popular Movies You Need to See Before Your Die! Commence choral performance of Beethoven's Ode to Joy -- Die Hard version! Shawn kicks things off with a movie no self-respecting action fan hasn't seen at least once. That's right, First Blood ! You know the story, a Vietnam Veteran uses his combat skills against the lawman of a small town when he arrests and abuses him. Classic, and made just two hours away from Basement Headquarters by motorcar. Then Jason and a horde of possessed townsfolk are comin' to kill yah, comin' to kill yah with Dead and Breakfast . This 2004 musical/horror/comedy deals with a night at a local bed and breakfast that turns into a bloody supernatural fight to the death. And because you can't tame awesome, the Basement Boys take a break from reviewing movies to chat with director Steven C. Miller about his recent slasher flick Silent Night and hi...

Branded and John Dies at the End

After years of complaining that nothing original is made in Hollywood , along comes two movies that prove Jason and Shawn wrong. Wait, both are independent movies made outside of the studio system? Never mind then . .  . The Basement Dwellers begin with the Russian/American co-production Branded, a sci-fi/social commentary about marketing and greed. Heady stuff made visually appealing by the talented and sexy Leelee Sobieski (yup, still alive) and some special effects. But is Branded too out there for it's own good? Jason and Shawn will be the judge of that. Then it's time to enter the mind of cult writer/director Don Coscarelli . That's right, the guy who created the Phantasm films and Bubba Ho-Tep. Coscarelli has made something truly unique with John Dies at the End , a movie with a title that's the biggest spoiler alert of all time. It's an original sci-fi/horror/comedy about alternate dimensions and a drug called Soy Sauce . Again, the question must b...

Stolen and Dredd

From unwatched action star to unwatched action movie, tonight's foray into Basement Cinema is an entire exercise in films no way gave a shit about. Please listen, though. First up it's a Nicolas Cage movie called Stolen. Does anyone give a shit about Cage anymore? He's been an Oscar winner and starred in a string of awesome action movies including The Rock and . . .  The Rock. But he was in hits like Con Air and Gone in 60 Seconds too. Now he's broke and signing on to projects just for the paycheck. Is that all Stolen really means to him and Jason and Shawn? Stick with us! Then we segue into the Judge Dredd reboot Dredd, which no one bothered to watch this past summer despite it getting great reviews and word of mouth from those who saw it. Sure, the plot sounds like The Raid: Redemption and Karl Urban isn't a draw, but there's no Rob Schneider in sight. That counts for something . . . right? Plus the Basement Boys -- those lovers of the female form --...

The Lost Coast Tapes and Dead Shadows

We are Jason and Shawn and we're back in The Basement . . . again! That's right, Season Four kicks off tonight after a five-month hiatus spent lounging on the beach, sipping reebs and enjoying time with friends and family. We also managed to crank out five -- count 'em five -- summer specials and a podcast cliffhanger with Jon Cross over at The After Movie Diner. Now we're back to our bread and butter of weekly radio shows/podcasts designed to pleasure your ear holes and celebrate all things genre cinema. So begins The Month from Hell, a four-week excursion into the upcoming horror film 6 Degrees of Hell. Things culminate with our annual Halloween Spooktacular and an interview with star Corey Feldman! First up is our exclusive talk with the screenwriter of the Scariest Movie of 2012: Harrison Smith. Then it's time to review some movies. We jump into the latest found-footage offering, The Lost Coast Tapes, which has a limited theatrical run in North America...

The Season Finale: Kill List and I Saw the Devil

The end of a season, the end of an era. In a manner of speaking. Yes, folks, the latest edition -- and the last regular-season outing until October -- also marks the final episode of Film Reviews from the Basement as we know it. What does that mean for the show? A name change for one. And the promise of expanding the premise beyond the film-review format. So welcome, Basement Dwellers, to the first episode of We Came from the Basement. You won't notice much that's different beyond the name for now. Jason and Shawn are still here, as is their love for boobs, blood and B-grade film entertainment. And Mike S. is still in the house tweeting away at @camethebasement (follow along tonight folks). With a new name comes the opportunity to expand The Basement in new directions while adhering to what fans, and the Basement Dwellers, love. Anything is possible now, and by the time the boys return to The X this fall, the hope is some of the possibilities will be a reality. But the...

Robotic virus meteor catastrophe

Everyone knows that Jason and I love movies that you have almost might have heard of. My personal favorites are disaster or end of the world movies. This movie is something I can look forward to.  I "accidentally" watched the trailer and can honestly say, "looks wicked, to me." But, we've been fooled by trailers many, many times. What to do?  Have faith that either three separate stories of doom and gloom are going to inflict mankind,  or one story with a triple threat is going to take us out. Yeah, my draw to these movies?  The thought that I won't die alone.  All you fuckers are coming with me. haha. That said, I can find little on this story, except it's directed by these guys: Ji Woon Kim  - Pil-Sung Yim  And they are going to take out humanity! Here's a trailer (with subtitles):

Modern/Retro 50s Night Vol. 2: Terror from Beneath the Earth and The Monster of Phantom Lake

We return to the wacky 1950s world of drive-in cinema with this, the latest episode of Film Reviews from the Basement. But we're doing it with a twist that can only come from that maestro of throwback cinema, Christopher R. Mihm. Modern/Retro 50s Night Vol. 1 is one of the most successful episodes of our fine radio show/podcast, and the only way we could think of topping it was to interview Mihm's favourite leading lady: Shannon McDonough! Shannon has starred in three Mihmverse epics: It Came From Another World, Attack of the Moon Zombies and one of the film's on the chopping block tonight: Terror from Beneath the Earth. Not only does she provide some great insight into the love and hard work that goes into making these micro-budget movies, but she talks about what it takes to be a working actress outside of Hollywood. It's a great 20-minute conversation whether you're in show business or not. In addition to Terror, Jason and Shawn tackle Mihm's very first...

Choose, Dead Hooker in a Trunk and an interview with Jen and Sylvia Soska

When it comes to horror, women tend to get more notice for the work they do in front of the camera than behind it. Not so with Jen and Sylvia Soska. The self proclaimed Twisted Twins of Vancouver are no strangers to the entertainment industry, having started out as child actors before making the transition to stunt work and eventually a disappointing turn in film school. Frustrated, the twins set out to make their first feature film. They called it Dead Hooker in a Trunk, made it on a low budget, and the rest is history. Jason and Shawn are not only going to review Dead Hooker on this episode, but The Basement Dwellers will also air a feature interview with Sylvia and Jen that explains their adventures in grindhouse cinema far better than can be done here. It's a 20-minute chat every film fan and aspiring filmmaker needs to hear.  But first, the boys will level the executioner's axe at a little-know horror flick called Choose. It stars Canadian actress Katheryn Winnick, l...

Red: Werewolf Hunter, Assassination Games and an interview with Josh Hammond

No, the guy above isn't actor/producer/screenwriter Josh Hammond, the talented dude who is Jason and Shawn's feature interview on this, the latest episode of Film Reviews From the Basement. The guy in the picture is the Muscles From Brussels and he's been known to do a little Van Dammage. But Josh Hammond is no stranger to the big screen either, having drawn up a laundry list of film credits in features like The Tripper, where he starred alongside Jaime King and Lukas Haas, the Randy Quaid vehicle Black Cadillac and Scorcher with John Rhys Davies and Mark Dacascos. And, of course, there's the horror sequel and Basement fave Jeepers Creepers 2.    Josh recently wrapped production on the new mob comedy Aqua Caliente, which he also co-wrote and produced. He's dropped by The Basement to talk about it, his films, and what it's like working with Jay of Jay and Silent Bob himself -- Jason Mews. It's a fun interview and Josh is a great guy. We guarantee this i...
