Bad CGI Sharks stalk audiences this September

Wow! Just when you thought filmmakers were fresh outta new ideas, along comes the movie Bad CGI Sharks to prove us all wrong. Check it: this is a flick where a magical muse brings a sharksploitation script to life, and the badly rendered shark goes after the two brothers who wrote it. No bullshit. I didn't make any of that up. That's honestly what this movie is about. And to show you I'm right, here's the trailer for your eye holes: Bad CGI Sharks is written and directed by Jason Ellsworth, Matthew Ellsworth and Matteo Molinari, and it hits Blu-ray, glorious VHS and SRS Cinema in late September. And we're gonna check it out, so you don't have to. Source: YouTube

The Drunken Review: Shark Lake

The Drunken Review is a Basement feature wherein movies are reviewed under the influence of alcohol. Why? Because some movies are better reviewed with booze, almost like the filmmakers designed them that way. Last night, I tackled the 2015 Dolph Lundgren flick Shark Lake. Because if any movie was designed for The Drunken Review, it's one where Dolph Lundgren punches a shark in the nose . . . in a lake. Does Miller High Life make this a fun and enjoyable ride? Stick with me!

Shawn Gets Sucked in the SHARKNADO

Hey Basementites. (I love that there is "tit" in that word, unlike in Sharknado) I got sucked in the swirling vortex of sharks, after hearing from many people that it wasn't awful. You know us, in The Basement, willing to try almost anything. We are semi-fans of Asylum's projects, knowing we aren't going to get Academy Award winning eye candy. And frankly, even "those" are over rated and stupid. Sometimes. Anthony Michael Bosa (Basement regular) usually heads up the Asylum patrol, as he is willing to go elbow deep into their pool. Heck, even I have said, "One day, these folks at Asylum, are gonna hit a winner. Today, I discovered that, Asylum can go fuck goats. To have been graced by some named "has beens", like: Ian Ziering , T ara Reid and John Heard ,  to name a few, Asylum should feel honored. Yet they put these guys (and lady) on screen with crayon effects, terrible screen continuity and I could go on and on...Lazy film mak...

SyFy sensation Sharknado goes theatrical

That's right folks, if you're a total loser like me and you didn't catch the heavily buzzed about SyFy Channel flick Sharknado, you've got another opportunity. Regal Entertainment Group brings the crazy ass movie about sharks and tornadoes to 500 movie theatres for midnight screenings on Aug. 2. Course we don't have any Regal theatres near Basement headquarters so fuck my life. When the film was broadcast earlier this month, #sharknado registered about 5,000 tweets per minute and accumulated more than 600,000 social media mentions. Tickets are available at the box office, online and through the Regal App. Check here for a list of participating theatres. And watch the trailer below to understand why this is must-see Basement cinema. If anyone can send a Christmas version of this classic our way, you can find us at basementreviews@gmail.com. We'll be forever grateful. Source: Shock Till You Drop

Jason and Shawn review Bait 3D and Compliance

Bait 3D Jason: For a movie that's one of the silliest sounding ideas on paper, Bait 3D actually turned out to be more fun than I thought. How's that? Easy: sharks + eating people = awesome! The cast did a good job here, and what a lovely assortment of ladies. Rrrowwr. There were times when this movie felt like a wet T-shirt contest. I could have done without all the melodrama between shark attacks, but beggars can't be choosers. When the chips were down, Bait 3D was a shark-attack movie in a supermarket. People are eaten and, in one case where live bait is used, I was cheering out loud. Will I watch it again? Yes. This is perfect Friday night fare. A Good from me. Shawn: Waaayyy better than I expected. Holy shit. Ha ha. I was thinking this would fall in the realm of the Megasharktocroctapuss-style movies, but it had decent acting, great effects, good sharks etc. It felt like a Final Destination movie, back when they had the money to do the kills really well. ...

When sharks attack: the Bait 3D trailer

Earlier this year we showed you a rough sales preview for the upcoming Australian shark movie Bait 3D. Well lucky us and lucky you . . . we've snagged the real-deal red-band trailer for your eye holes! That's right, the fine folks at Anchor Bay -- who have long been a horror fan's best friend -- will be unleashing this bad boy on Sept. 18. And that means we've got one of two movies for our series premiere locked and loaded. Boo-yah! Bait 3D speculates on what would happen if a freak tsunami hit a small town on the Gold Coast and trapped people in a flooded underground supermarket with a pack of man-eating sharks. I hate shopping to begin with. Sharks would certainly amp the suck. But enough of my musings; give the trailer a watch and stay tuned for our thoughts on Bait 3D this fall.

Bait 3D promises Jaws in a supermarket

You read that right: sharks in a grocery store. Kinda like snakes on a plane, only with sharks and no Samuel L. in sight. We're talking material for the highest grossing movie of all time right there. In all seriousness, that is the concept behind the Australian shark movie Bait, which speculates on what would happen when a freak tsunami hits a small town on the Gold Coast and traps people in a flooded underground supermarket with a pack of man-eating sharks. The idea is cool, and the rough sales trailer we've discovered and posted below holds promise. We love sharks in The Basement, be they mega, 2-headed or otherwise. And Bait sure can't be any worse than Shark Night 3D, although it was shot in the three-extra dollars format. Bait was directed by Kimble Rendall and stars Julian Mcmahon and Xavier Samuel. No word yet on when we'll see it, but it's rumoured to hit theatres some time this year. Check out trailer below and share your thoughts, Basement Dwell...

Micro Review: Shark Night 3D

A better, more appealing, and accurate title would be Sara Paxton In A Bikini, as she and said bikini are the only reasons to watch this movie. There's few sharks, even fewer shark attacks, and 75 per cent of the film takes place during the day. And these are PG-13 shark attacks done without the skill a master like Spielberg would bring to the table. If I'm watching a shark movie, I want shark attacks and lots of them. And they better be cool! Still, we do get Sara Paxton in a bikini, and she and the article of clothing save this from an Ugly. But it's still Bad.

It's a 2-Headed Shark Attack

Because, really, how else can you describe a movie called 2-Headed Shark Attack? It's a movie. About a two-headed shark. And the two-headed shark attacks people. You don't get any more on the nose than that. The film comes care of those wacky purveyors of mockbuster entertainment -- The Asylum. Yup, the same Asylum that made the Mega Shark movies and the knockoff 11-11-11, which we review on Friday. 2-Headed Shark Attack stars Carmen Electra (pic) and is directed by Christopher Douglas-Olen Ray from a story by Edward DeRuiter a screenplay by H. Perry Horton. Does the plot matter? Fuck no! But here it is in a nutshell: Survivors escape to a deserted atoll after a Semester at Sea ship is sunk by a mutated two-headed shark. But when the atoll starts flooding, no one is safe from the double jaws of the monster. We in The Basement have a soft spot for movies like this, Anthony Michael Bosa especially. You know we'll see it, and you know we'll let you know whether o...

We're the chum in Jurassic Shark

It's amusing, but not in a ha-ha way, how author Steve Alten has struggled to get a big-budget Hollywood adaptation of his giant shark novel Meg made yet cheap knockoffs hit DVD and Video On Demand every other month. I feel his pain. On the other hand, some of these schlocky shark flicks are kinda fun in their own way. The latest entry, Jurassic Shark, looks pretty damn funny. Whether that's the point or not remains to be seen. Directed by Brett Kelly, this shark tale is made in the tradition of mockbuster greats like Mega Shark Vs. Giant Octopus and Sharktopus. The plot kicks off with an oil company accidentally unleashing a prehistoric shark from its icy prison. Once free, the shark strands a mixed bag of potential victims on an abandoned piece of land where they must join forces in order to survive. Need I mention that the victims are a mix of art thieves and college students? Probably not, but it gives you an idea of what Jurassic Shark is all about. As cheesy and c...

Shark Night 3D gets a PG-13 rating . . .

. . . and interest wains. Not that we in The Basement mind PG-13 flicks. There's a tonne of great ones out there within in the horror, action, and sci-fi genre. Jaws comes to mind. The Grudge. Live Free or Die Hard. But when you've got a movie about sharks eating people from the director of Final Destination 2 and Snakes On A Plane, you kinda expect more. More gore that is. And boobies. Mature, I know. The film is rated PG-13 for violence and terror, disturbing images, sexual references, partial nudity, language and thematic material. All of which could translate into good carnage, but still. The concept of a 3D shark movie makes me think of Piranha 3D, and that wouldn't have worked in PG-13. R-rated all the way baby. Despite our disappointment, Shawn and I will eventually check out Shark Night 3D because we're weird that way. The Film hits theatres Sept. 2 and stars the hotness that is Sara Paxton (see above pic). The film's trailer sits below.

Trailer Alert: Shark Night 3D

Two days ago we showed you the poster for David R. Ellis's Shark Night 3D. Tonight we bring you the first teaser trailer for his tale of a shark-infested lake and the poor bastards who go vacationing in it. The preview doesn't show much more than beautiful people and beautiful sharks . . . although it does hint at beautiful shark carnage. We here in The Basement are hoping for a fun and gory B-movie along the lines of similar-in-theme Piranha 3D. Nothing more, nothing less. We'll know more when the movie, which will cost you three extra dollars to see, opens Sept. 2. But enough of the jibber jabber, here's the trailer. Apologies for the ad at the beginning.

Hot Chick + Big Shark = Must See

I know, two posts about posters in a row (say that 10 times fast) but hey, it's a slick looking poster. And it's about sharks . . . and hot chicks . . . possibly being eaten by sharks. We've talked about David R. Ellis's Shark Night 3D before and now we've got the poster for this bad boy, which is due out later this summer. We here in The Basement love movies about sharks. Open Water. Deep Blue Sea. Jaws. Mega Shark Vs. Giant Octopus. If it's got sharks in it, we'll watch it. The poster below looks pretty slick. It even generates a chill or two. Hopefully the movie can live up to it! Here's the plot: Arriving by boat at her family’s Louisiana lake island cabin, Sara (Sara Paxton) and her friends quickly strip down to their swimsuits for a weekend of fun in the sun. But when star football player Malik (Sinqua Walls) stumbles from the salt-water lake with his arm torn off, the party mood quickly evaporates. Assuming the injury was caused by a f...

Behold: Mega Shark Vs. Crocosaurus

A guilty pleasure for Shawn and I here in The Basement is The Asylum's mockbuster "classic" Mega Shark Vs. Giant Octopus. I mean, who can resist an ultra low budget monster movie starring Debbie Gibson and Basement fave Lorenzo Lamas? Throw in some of the best worst special effects of all time and a passion for film making and you've got a great beer movie. Now the inevitable sequel is about to be unleashed and the teaser trailer below is living proof this thing is gonna rule Basement cinema. Cheesy, melodramatic and loaded with non actors and set pieces that are sure to make our geek bones quiver with joy. I can't wait for this bad boy to hit video store shelves on Dec. 21. And you can be sure that Shawn and I will be ready with a review when the radio show returns from Christmas break! And now, the trailer for Mega Shark Vs. Crocosaurus! Movie Trailers - Movies Blog

Beware of Shark Attack

First Piranhas and now sharks.     Director David R. Ellis (Final Destination 2, Snakes On A Plane) has cast his first four vacationers for his upcoming 3D epic, the aptly titled Shark Night 3D.  Heat Vision reports Ellis has cast Sinqua Walls (Savage County), Chris Carmack (The Butterfuly Effect: Revelation), Alyssa Diaz (Red Dawn) and Joel David Moore (Avatar).  Who cares about a cast of people no one has heard of? I agree. But the horror film, penned by Jesse Studenberg and Will Hayes, revolves around seven men and women who spend a weekend at a lake house in Louisiana's Gulf area and find their vacation quickly becomes a nightmare of hellish shark attacks, unheard of in freshwater lakes. The group soon discover that the sharks are part of a sick, greedy plan on the part of several locals.  If done right, this could be a lot of fun. The film rolls in September.
