Ryan Shovey offers up his new horror short The Audition

Y'all remember our boy Ryan Shovey, the writer/director of the bad ass horror short Hunter? Course you do. If not, refresh your memory right here . Now that we're all on the same page, Ryan took a break from turning Hunter into a full-fledged feature to craft another short, one he intends to make part of a horror anthology flick. A very R-rated horror anthology flick. Ryan and his crew from Hunter made The Audition as part of a 100-hour film contest, which challenged the filmmakers to take a project from concept to screen in, you guessed it, 100 hours. Check out the end result right now. Pretty groovy yes!?! We think so, which is why Shawn and I have shared it with you Basementites. We'll keep you updated on The Audition and Hunter as the projects develop. Source: Freak Daddy Production

Since then we've followed Ryan as he put together enough dough to make a short film with the intention of using it to raise money for a full-fledged feature. Well, he's done that. The Hunter short has screened at two festivals, been accepted into a third, and Ryan and his crew are awaiting word from four more. We've talked about it before, and now we're going to show it to you. And if you'll recall, we found it awesome. Hopefully, you do to. Here it is: Wanna help get this movie made? Give this trailer for the Hunter short film a watch

Or we swear your suffering will be legendary . . . Sorry, Hellraiser flashback. Sundays do that to me. In all seriousness though, this is a great little trailer for a great little short film that we hope turns into a feature for director Ryan Shovey. He chatted the project up on the show last season and we peeped the short film a couple of months back. It's good stuff, and will make an awesome opening to the eventual movie. The Hunter short has its world premiere at the Shockfest Film Festival in Hollywood on Nov. 17. Get your tickets by clicking on the link. And stick with Hunter-TheFilm.com to stay up to date on the project as it develops. What's it all about? A group of college kids try to figure out who is killing their friends while unraveling an unresolved string of murders from twenty years prior and connecting them to the recent killings. Now watch the trailer, and enjoy the rest of your Sunday.

New Orleans slasher Hunter closer to financing

At the start of last season we told you about a low-budget, indie horror flick looking to get off the ground called Hunter. Since then, writer/director Ryan Shovey and his crew have busted ass on the project, and it looks like the hard work has paid off. Shovey emailed us this weekend, saying he's completed a Hunter short film that he can use to generate interest and entice investors. And it sounds like money could be coming down the pike very soon. We've seen the short, and wish we could post it for you here. It's polished, full of old-school slasher scares, and promises audiences great things when the Hunter feature becomes a reality. Given that the short will be circulating at film festivals and crossing financiers' desks, we have to keep it our little secret. But, as soon as we can let Basement Dwellers see it, we will. In the meantime, follow Ryan on Twitter and check out his official site . Keep up the great work guys!

The theme from Ryan Shovey's Hunter

We've been covering the development of writer/director Ryan Shovey's inaugural feature film Hunter with some interest here on the site and on the show. Just last week we presented you with the poster for the upcoming slasher film. Now we've got another groovy offering from the production: the theme music! And let me tell you, it's everything a horror fan would want from a score: creepy, simple and memorable. Good job guys. As for what the film is about: a group of college kids try to figure out who is killing their friends while unraveling an unresolved string of murders from twenty years prior and connecting them to the recent killing. To learn more, just head on over to Ryan's official blog . Now a little something for your ear holes:

New Orleans slasher Hunter gets a teaser poster

We haven't update you on the progress of Ryan Shovey's independent horror film Hunter since the start of last season, but we've got a doozy of an update for you today! Behold, the teaser poster for the film: Slick, yes!?! We think so. Since we last spoke with Ryan he's been able to secure enough funding to shoot an opening sequence for Hunter and is currently scouting locations. Good on him! Everything he told Shawn and I about the movie has us jazzed to see what this guy can do. As for what the film is about: a group of college kids try to figure out who is killing their friends while unraveling an unresolved string of murders from twenty years prior and connecting them to the recent killings Instead of trying to explain the film further, let's let Ryan do it himself via the video below. And, once you're done watching, head on over to Freak Daddy Productions to learn more about the filmmaker and his work. We'll keep you updated on the project as...

Fundraising begins for slasher flick Hunter

On Oct. 14 Jason and Shawn will broadcast their feature interview with up-and-coming filmmaker Ryan Shovey, who has just embarked on the awesome endeavor of raising money to get his first film off the ground. And Ryan isn't making no two-actor-sitting-in-one-room-talky-boring drama. No, this boy loves horror, and he's going the route of James Wan, Wes Craven and John Carpenter before him . . . he's making a slasher movie. A slasher movie called Hunter. In order to secure funding, Ryan and co-screenwriter Ross Algana want to make a short film to show investors what they can do with little money and a lot of ambition. Ryan's made a number of short films, including an award-winning version of Edgar Allan Poe's The Tell-Tale Heart, so he knows what he's doing. The hope is the short will generate buzz and get the production off the ground in much the same way as shorts for Saw, District 9 and Napoleon Dynamite did. Jason had a great talk with Ryan, and this is ...
