Retro Review: Grizzly

Once there was a movie called Jaws, and it featured a shark killing innocent swimmers. That was back in 1975, and it was a huge hit. A year later, a movie came out called Grizzly, and it featured a grizzly bear killing innocent campers and hikers. Suffice to say, it was the highest grossing independent movie of 1976. I was intrigued by Grizzly as a boy, because the movie's poster was featured on the back of comic books everywhere, and it looked great, especially to a pre-teen boy. How does the movie stack up now that I'm a middle-age man?

House of Good and Evil screenwriter crafts a Hillbilly Horror Show

Half the fun of The Basement is meeting cool and creative people and seeing their projects come to life. We've met several, John Fallon and Brooke Lewis to name just two, and enjoy cheering them on. House of Good and Evil screenwriter Blu de Golyer is no exception, and we're happy to announce his latest project, Hillbilly Horror Show, is about to enter the spotlight.

Horror Hottie Month: Ghost Team One, Standards of Living and the Jenna Payne interview

Horror. Hotties. All month long. That's the promise Jason and Shawn made, and they shall fulfill it during the next two episodes of Film Reviews from the Basement . Two words: zompire vixens. You're welcome. Shawn sat down with Jenna for about 15 minutes to discuss her budding career and what it takes to make it in Hollywood. The end result is a fun and candid interview no Basement fan wants to miss. And how about them movies on the chopping block? Check it, the Basement Boys are into a horror comedy double bill featuring horny ghost hunters and bad comedians. First up is Ghost Team One, which features said horny ghost hunters, followed by Standards of Living. Not only is Standards of Living about a bad comedian, it's the first movie shot on an iPad2 ! That'...

No Dark Fest for 2013

After a couple of days of difficult decision making , Shawn and I have decided not to proceed with a second Dark Fest as part of this year's Kamloops Canadian and International Film Festival . There are a variety of reasons why, none of them to do with our ability to land films -- we actually had more lined up than we could show -- or guests, as John Fallon planned to return with Dead Shadows. Instead, it came down to timing and our confidence in being able to make a second Dark Fest a success for all involved. Instead, The Basement hopes to arrange a screening or two of genre cinema later this year. We thank everyone who came out and supported us last year, and who continue to do so every week. This season of our show has been the most successful yet, and we hope to keep sharing that success with all you Basementites. We also thank everyone involved with the Kamloops Film Society for giving us a chance to share our morbid passion with the masses. You all rock! As alway...
