New Knives Out trailer promises a thrilling whodunnit

I am beyond stoked for Rian Johnson's upcoming whodunnit, Knives Out. It's got a killer cast, a hip energy, and what promises to be a potential series of films featuring Daniel Craig's Detective Benoit Blanc, a quirky hero in the vein of Agatha Christy's Poirot. The film hits in November, and we've scored a new trailer that's a ton of fun to watch. If the finished film is equally so, this could be a winner for people tired of remakes, reboots and super-hero movies. Check this out: The buzz around this one is unusually huge, with advance word calling it an old-fashioned murder mystery with lots of stars and hilarious comedy. The word brilliant has been passed around too. Johnson IS a brilliant filmmaker. I love Brick, The Brothers Bloom and Looper a lot. And yes, I'm one of the few true Star Wars fans who enjoys The Last Jedi. Then again, I'm not a bitch... Knives Out also stars Chris Evans, Jamie Lee Curtis, Michael Shannon, Toni Collette, Do...

Review: Avengers: Endgame

Twenty one movies, more than a decade of cinematic history, and dozens of characters and story arcs. And it all comes down to one movie. How is this possible? How could something so massive actually pay off in a satisfying way? Clearly Anthony and Joe Russo asked themselves this question when they took on the films Infinity War and Endgame. Then they probably uttered "fuck it" and went ahead and made them. And I'm glad they did.

The Avengers go one more round in latest Endgame trailer

We're a few short weeks away from The Avengers: Endgame hitting theatres, and the marketing for what will be one of the year's biggest movies is in full swing. Hence this Special Look trailer, which is really just another trailer, and probably the last before the film comes out. Remember when movies got one, maybe two, trailers prior to release? Yeah, I'm old...

"Whatever it takes," the final Avengers: Endgame trailer

It's rare a trailer will give me goosebumps, but that's exactly what this final one for The Avengers: Endgame did. Sure, we know things are going to (more or less) end on a positive note as this movie takes the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a new direction. But there's something about the promise of a last stand that gives me the chills, in the best possible way.

It's a friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man

I cared less about another cinematic incarnation of 'ole Web Head until the final few seconds of the latest trailer for Captain America: Civil War. Then I was like, all giddy and stuff. 'Cause that little kid who grew up on Spider-Man realized there's a good chance the character will finally be done right now that he's back in the hands of Mighty Marvel. Oh yeah, by the way, there's a new trailer for Captain America: Civil War out. Wanna see it? Course you do.

The Captain America: Civil War trailer is here

Like fanboys needed to know anything else other than the official trailer for the much anticipated Captain American: Civil War has finally appeared online. That, as Stan Lee would say, is 'nuff said. But we have to say something more, don't we? How about it comes out in May? It does. There. Now go watch it.

Marvel's Civil War storyline headed to the big screen

Yeah, I know. Variety broke this yesterday and everyone and their dog has commented. But everyone and their dog isn't The Basement. So here we go. Word has it Robert Downey Jr. will appear in Captain American 3, not as a fellow Avenger but as the villain -- in a sense -- as the Superhero Registration Act makes its way into the Marvel cinematic universe.

Red Band Snowpiercer trailer so good it chills

It's been a long time since a trailer has been so good it's given me chills . Well, OK. The Godzilla trailer gave me chills. But so does this Red Band trailer for Joon-ho Bong 's Snowpiercer . This doesn't happen every day. Personally, I haven't paid a lot of attention to the flick because of the controversy surrounding creative differences between Bong and The Weinstein Company , who apparently edited the crap out of it, which naturally upset the director. Drama and I don't get along.

Shawn versus Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Shawn here, reporting in, sir. Last weekend our "free movie tickets" expired.  We had to use them up. Wasn't much playing at our local theater, that we could all go see as a family, that wouldn't cause someone to fall asleep or eat all the popcorn during the previews. So, we settled on Capt'n America. I didn't enjoy the first Cap very much, so I wasn't looking forward to this. But I did enjoy The Avengers . Here's the thing.  If the movie, derived from a comic book , doesn't give me eye candy, I'll read the comic.  The first Captain America fell short there and was too long in the story, in my opinion.. What they did in the second one, was similar to how stories are laid out, in cartoon series' of The Avengers or Justice League...for example.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier trailer brings the noise

This preview for Marvel's latest, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, be no trailer for a super-hero movie . It be a trailer for a damn fine looking action flick. One the wife and I are keen to see. Wanna know why? Just watch: See! I don't know what the team at Marvel eat for breakfast, but they've done a fantastic job translating their comic-book universe into a cinematic one. Perfect casting, nicely woven mythology that continues from one film and character to the next. I'm in awe of what they've done. Winter Soldier looks to continue that trend, and they've recruited Robert Redford . That's right, Robert Fucking Redford! Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) struggles to embrace his role in the modern world and teams up with Natasha Romanoff, aka Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), to battle a powerful yet shadowy enemy in present-day Washington, D.C.  Anthony and Joe Russo direct the flick, which hits theatres April 4. Agent Carter returns in Captain America inspired short

Remember Peggy Carter, Captain America's love interested in . . . Captain America? Well, she's back. And so is the sexy actress who played her -- Hayley Atwell. Atwell stars in the short film Agent Carter, which is set to premiere at next week's San Diego Comic-Con before it turns up as a special feature on the Iron Man 3 DVD/Blu-ray in September. The flick follows Carter's further adventures a year after the events of Captain America: The First Avenger. The short is part of Marvel's One-Shot series, which means there's more films featuring more characters in the works. This appeals to me for several reason. One, it's a very comic-book idea, taking supporting characters and giving them a chance to shine. And two, it's another cool thing to add to the DVD/Blu-ray experience. I was gonna buy Iron Man 3 anyway. Agent Carter is just another reason to be excited about the disc. So is the short film. Peep the promo poster below. Source: Enterta...

Some new Avengers pics for your eye holes

Simply because we can, we Basement Dwellers have amassed several pics from Joss Whedon's upcoming foray into super hero movies The Avengers. Advance word on the Interwebs is the movie rocks hard! Which is good. And so do these pics below! This is also good. We've got Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Chris Evans as Captain America, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man and Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury. Naturally, we put beauty before everyone else. The Avengers hits theatres May 4! Scarlett Johansson Chris Evans Chris Hemsworth Jeremy Renner Robert Downey Jr. Samuel L. Jackson

Avengers assemble in the new trailer

We've seen teasers and lengthy Super Bowl spots but the wait for the full Avengers trailer is over. And it was worth it! We've got 'em all: Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, Hulk, Hawkey, Black Widow and Nick Fury. And, Hulk aside, they're all played by the actors who immortalized them on the big screen during several Hollywood blockbusters. This is the first time anything like this has been attempted on film. It's a risky venture for Marvel and Paramount Pictures, but under director Joss Whedon, it looks like the gamble paid off. Can't wait to see this on May 4! But I digress too much. Time to shut up and watch the trailer again!

The Avengers trailer!

Yeah, yeah. We're the anti-Hollywood guys. But how can we not be excited for Marvel and Paramount's adaptation of The Avengers? For one, it brings all of the comic company and studio's super hero big guns together in one film. And it's got a dream cast of Robert Downey Jr., Mark Ruffalo, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson and Jeremy Renner, just to name a few. And it's directed by geek fave Joss Whedon! Bah! Enough chit-chat. Because we can, and we should, here's the trailer for The Avengers!

The final, and best, Captain America trailer arrives

And it's a chill-inducing, smile-creating gem. More action. More Hugo Weaving. More Tommy Lee Jones. More Howling Commandos. More music by Tool. This is going to be THE summer movie to see in my opinion. A period comic book adventure that, as far as this trailer is concerned, has the heart and tone of an old-school action picture. Think Raiders of the Lost Ark with a super hero. Sold! But why not watch the trailer for yourselves and sound off!

The first full trailer for Captain America

Wow! Just watched the trailer for Captain America and, aside from some poor video quality with the embed and having to tolerate the Entertainment Tonight promo at the end, it rocks!! For one, they've captured the look and tone of the original Captain America comic plus his more recent incarnation in Marvel's Ultimates universe. Second, Chris Evans owns the role. I don't know how they made him go from scrawny little runt to kick-ass soldier guy, but they pulled it off. And Hugo Weaving as the Red Skull? Hell yes! There's few mainstream releases this year I have to see. Captain America is one of them. Super 8 and Sucker Punch are also on the list! Watch the trailer and judge for yourself. And leave a comment, soldier! Captain America hits theatres in July.

Witness the first Avenger

Those of you who were lucky enough to catch the Super Bowl (damn you localized snowstorm!) on Sunday also caught a glimpse of the Big Game teaser for the Captain America movie. I didn't get to watch the preview until late yesterday and was blown away by the footage. It has an old-school vibe befitting the World War 2 era and appears to have captured the feel of the original Captain America comics. I like how Chris Evans comes across both pre-super serum and after. It's great to see The Howling Commandos make an appearance and who doesn't dig the brief glimpse we get of The Red Skull? Naturally, we must hold our excitement in check pending the film's release this summer. But my anticipation level has ramped up considerably for Captain America. The movie is due out July 22.

A good look at The First Avenger in action

Empire magazine has scored a bunch of pics from the upcoming Captain America: The First Avenger and we've decided to be lazy and post one of them here. Hey, it's the web. We can do that. I'm actually looking forward to this flick and think Chris Evans is the perfect choice for Cap. He's a good actor, he looks all American and the costume suits him. Any doubts? Look below. The film is also set during World War 2, which is tres cool. Directed by Joe Johnston, the action adventure also stars Hayley Atwell and Hugo Weaving as The Red Skull. It hits theatres July 22.

New International Trailer for Scott Pilgram

It hasn't been a terribly exciting summer for movies. Sure, there have been some surprises (Prince of Persia and The A-Team) but, for the most part, there is little I want to see. The latest trailer for Edgar Wright's Scott Pilgram Vs. The World changes all that. I need to see this movie now. Everything about it looks weird and kooky and great. This, along with Inception and The Expendables, could save the summer. Give this a watch, and then sound off your thoughts! PS: I don't think Chris Evans can be bad in a movie. His delivery of "What's up? He seems nice" made me bust a gut.

Hugo Weaving Will Be The Red Skull

How cool is that!?! Today, Marvel Studios is confirming that the actor will definitely be playing the villain opposite Chris Evans as Captain America. Rumour has it the movie takes place during the Second World War, so expect Weaving's Skull to have lots of Nazis at his disposal. Weaving is the perfect choice for the role. He, along with Alan Rickman of Die Hard fame, is one of the best villainous actors in the business. I'm more and more excited for this movie as news begins to leak out. Evans should be a great Cap (he was awesome in The Losers)and Marvel has been producing some pretty decent adaptations of their characters of late, Ghost Rider aside. -Jay
