It doesn't happen often, but when Jason and Shawn get the chance to review a movie and talk to the dude or dudette who made it on the same show, they jump at the opportunity. Such is the case with this latest From The Basement.

It's been a few months since we told yah  the horror flick The Evil Within was getting a title and release date change. We were informed then that Richard Gray's spookfest, now titled Mine Games , would open in September. Now we're letting you know it hits DVD , VOD and Blu-ray Sept. 16. You're welcome.

Horror fans who went looking for a copy of The Evil Within earlier this month were likely a little disappointed when Richard Gray's flick didn't turn up on VOD , DVD and Blu-ray as planned. But fear not, fright flick geeks, the movie is still headed our way, albeit not until September. And it's reverted back to its original title.

Batten down the hatches, Basementites, The Evil Within wants out. That's the premise behind this upcoming horror flick by Australian director Richard Gray, who previously helmed Blinder and The Lookalike.

Mother's Day Jason: I haven't watched the original Mother's Day, so I have no idea how this compares to that alleged classic but, on it's own, it's not bad. I enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would anyway, given I'm not into the whole brutality-for-brutality-sake thing. Most of this movie's strength can be found in the performances. All of the villains are great, especially Rebecca De Mornay, who gives a solid -- if not a little one note -- performance. I hated all of the victims save for Shawn Ashmore. For a group of friends they sure turn on each other quickly. I liked a lot of this, but I won't watch it again. It was too long, too overwrought at times, and very mean spirited. Remember when Rebecca De Mornay was all that? Back in the 80s she starred in respectable hits like Risky Business and Runaway Train before taking a turn for the crazy in The Hand That Rocks the Cradle. Then poof -- off the radar. Well, De Mornay is back in a big way with Darren Lynn Bousman's much touted, and much delayed we might add, Mother's Day remake. It's pretty much a remake no one asked for (wait, all remakes are like that) but it received generally favourable reviews on the festival circuit, especially for De Mornay's performance and the gobs of uncompromising violence. Now Mother's Day has found its way into The Basement just in time for Father's Day. Ha! Didn't see that one coming did you!?! And Jason and Shawn are more than willing to put it on the chopping block. Does the film live up to its hype, or do our Basement Dwellers find good reason for it to have languished in distribution hell? You'll find out when the June Special goes live...

After sitting on a shelf for more than a year, Darren Lynn Bousman's Mother's Day remake is finally coming home. We reported late last year that the film was going to hit theatres on May 13. We've now learned that Anchor Bay Films is gearing up to release it on DVD and Blu-Ray May 8 following a limited theatrical engagement in New York, L.A. and Chicago on May 4. Wow, that is pretty limited. For those who aren't in the know, Bousman's remake of the 1980 Troma shocker follows the sadistic members of a villainous family as they return to their childhood home to terrorize the new owners and their guests. Rebecca DeMornay (above) plays the titular mother and Jaime King, Deborah Ann Wolf and Briana Evigan also star. The remake is getting good buzz among horror fans, so you know we'll review it on our June Special later this year. Any excuse to post a pic of the lovely Briana Evigan is a good excuse in my book. And hey, it's horror-related news, so why the deuce not!?! Evigan, the hottie who starred in Burning Bright and Sorority Row, has signed on to Darren Lynn Bousman's 45-minute experimental short film The Devil's Carnival. The latest genre offering from Bousman, who helmed several of the Saw movies plus Mother's Day, The Barrens, the non-Asylum 11-11-11 and Repo: The Genetic (spits) Opera. She joins Taryn Manning and Bill Moseley in the short, which is a quasi musical about a carnival run by the devil. The musical aspect turns me right off, but with Evigan in it . . . Yeah. I might just give it a shot. And it's only 45 minutes. Right? Not much more is known about the project, but we'll try and keep you Basementites in the loop.

Sharktopus Jason: This movie isn't as fun as the title suggests. It gives us what we want, which is lots of boobs, blood and a cool beast. There are a lot of kills here, but they do get redundant. The effects are better than both Mega Shark movies put together and, although the acting is pretty bad, everything works on the level of a late night horror movie. If I had a better time with it, Sharktopus would rate a Good. Instead, I have to give it a Bad. Shawn: A low-budget movie featuring the great Eric Roberts, who was introduced to me in 1989's martial art movie The Best of the Best, which was awesome. He's not really a B-movie actor anymore, but it's good to see him stepping into these roles. Sharktopus is a good B-movie; fun and entertaining but predictable. Not the kind you watch more than once, which means it's a Bad in my books. Burning Bright Shawn: A people-eating tiger movie where no people get eaten. An under-clothed hottie and her autistic brother...
