Behold the first trailer for Netflix's Locke & Key

I've been hurting for a post-Witcher binge, and it looks like I'll have to wait a little bit longer. But if the first season of Locke & Key is as groovy as today's trailer suggests, I'm on board 100 percent. Based on the graphic novel by Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez, Netflix's latest original series looks like a mix of The Haunting of Hill House and The Chronicles of Narnia, a combination of which I never thought could exist, or would intrigue me if it did. But it does, and I am, so take a look for yourselves: Locke & Key stars Darby Stanchfield, Jackson Robert Scott, Connor Jessup and Emilia Jones. It debuts on Flix of the Net Feb. 7, and we'll be watching. Source: Netflix

U.S. American Mary trailer surfaces

Shawn and I are pumped to finally see the Twisted Twins' acclaimed follow up to Dead Hooker in a Trunk -- American Mary. In fact, we do just that on our season finale, which is broadcast April 4 on 92.5FM CFBX Kamloops. Until then, we're happy to show you the U.S. preview for writer/director Jen and Sylvia Soska's flick, which'll be released Stateside May 31. American Mary stars Katharine Isabelle, Antonio Cupo, Tristan Risk, David Lovgren, Paula Lindberg, Clay St. Thomas, John Emmet Tracy, and Twan Holliday. What's it all about? The allure of easy money sends medical student Mary Mason into the twilight world of body modification and underground surgeries where obsessed flesh artists will pay anything and go through any pain to get their unusual procedures done.   Looks and sounds nasty . . .  and awesome! Jen and Sylvia are a couple of horror-loving gals the industry needs right now. They make fun and interesting films, and are willing to push mor...

New Oblivion trailer ups the thinking and explosions

The more I see of the new Tom Cruise sci-fi flick Oblivion, the more I'm convinced we're in for a real treat -- a smart, dazzling sci-fi adventure that'll thrill as much as it'll make us think. How cool is that? Very! This new trailer just cements my opinion. And it shows more of Oscar winner Melissa Leo and bad to the ass hottie/former Bond girl Olga Kurylenko . And Morgan Freeman who, at the mere mention of his name, makes my inner voice sound like Morgan Freeman. Oblivion follows Cruise’s Jack Harper as he works to repair security drones on a ravaged planet Earth following an alien invasion. When Jack defies orders by rescuing a familiar stranger from a crashed spaceship, he ignites a chain of events that exposes everything he’s been told about the invasion as a lie.  Watch your ass this new trailer, and prepare for Oblivion's release in theatres and IMAX on April 19.   Video: Oblivion - exclusive trailer Source:  MSN Related articles N...

This Big Ass Spider trailer will stomp your . . . ass!

Man, this looks awesome. Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus awesome. Or even Sharktopus awesome. Either way, The Basement is all over director Mike Mendez's new movie Big Ass Spider. Greg Grunberg , Lombardo Boyar , Clare Kramer and Ray Wise star in the flick, which concerns a giant spider that attacks Los Angeles and the two exterminators who join forces with the military to take it out, and we don't mean for dinner and a movie. Big Ass Spider premieres at SXSW , and we hope to see it ASAP. I dug Mendez's The Gravedancers , which was a lot more serious than how this movie looks. Still, I admire any filmmaker who doesn't stick to one thing. That's right, I called a guy who made a movie called Big Ass Spider a filmmaker. Wanna fight about it? Now get a load of this preview, Basementites! The Lords of Salem get an official trailer

Writer/director Rob Zombie 's latest, The Lords of Salem , hits April 19 by way of Anchor Bay Entertainment . And, with the clock ticking down to its release, the studio has seen fit to release an official trailer . Sure, a teaser trailer was issued back in October, and it was way more fucked up. But this is still pretty damn effective, with some great imagery and more hints at what it's all about. And what it's about is residents of Salem, Massachusetts are visited by a 300-year-old coven of witches.Somehow a DJ , Sheri Moon Zombie , gets mixed up in all the creepy shit. We'd be idiots if we weren't looking forward to this one. I've dug all of Zombie's stuff, including his Halloween films. Having him back on his own turf is something to be excited about. Willis, Mirren and Malkovich are back in Red 2

That's Bruce Willis, Helen Mirren and John Malkovich to you. Also back for more action is Mary-Louise Parker along with newcomers -- to the franchise anyway -- Anthony Hopkins, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Byung Hun Lee.  Oh yeah, we're talking about Red 2 here, the follow up to Bruce's 2010 hit Red. Retired black-ops CIA agent Frank Moses (The Bruce) reunites his unlikely team of elite operatives for a global quest to track down a missing portable nuclear device. To succeed, they’ll need to survive an army of relentless assassins, ruthless terrorists and power-crazed government officials, all eager to get their hands on the next-generation weapon. The mission takes Frank and his motley crew to Paris, London and Moscow. Outgunned and outmanned, they have only their cunning wits, their old-school skills, and each other to rely on as they try to save the world-and stay alive in the process. I dug Red a lot and am looking forward to another installment. Glad to see...

S-VHS teaser promises more shaky cam fear

Which really shouldn't surprise anyone. Its predecessor was an anthology of found-footage horror tales, so why expect anything different from the sequel? Still, I dug V/H/S a lot despite my growing hatred for found-footage flicks. I will give this follow up a go after it premieres at the annual Sundance Film Festival. And the teaser trailer does look promising, which is what teaser trailers are supposed to do. I'm dying to know what interrupts that kid's birthday party . . . The sequel brings back writer/directors Adam Wingard and Simon Barrett and adds The Raid: Redemption helmer Gareth Evans , Eduardo Sanchez of The Blair Witch Project fame, Hobo With A Shotgun director Jason Eisener and Timo Tjahjanto. The film is produced and financed by The Collective and Bloody Disgusting. The plot follows a pair of investigators who discover a tape while looking for a student. And now the teaser. Sorry about the ad. Thanks to Empire Online for digging this up. ...

Harold and Kumar meet Paranormal Activity in horror/comedy Ghost Team One

Forget the big screen debacle that is the Wayans' A Haunted House, I'd rather check out Ghost Team One. Why? Unlike that other haunted house spoof, Scott Rutheford and Ben Peyser's micro-budget flick actually looks pretty funny. And there could even be a few scares involved. And a hot chick or two. Need we see more? And there's not a Wayans in sight, although Damon was the bomb in The Last Boy Scout. In order to impress a girl, two roommates set out to make a documentary about a murder that took place in their house decades ago. The girl thinks that the victim's ghost still resides there, and the two guys think that making a movie with her will get them laid. But after setting cameras up around the house, the legitimately supernatural occurrences that follow make it apparent that the ghost is not only real, but that she’s a vengeful Vietnamese madame from the 1930’s that’s become smitten with our guys.  Ghost Team One has its world premiere at the...

First trailer arrives for Halle Berry thriller The Call

And you know what? It actually doesn't look half bad.  Granted, Halle Berry and co-star Abigail Breslin are talented actors. Berry's won an Academy Award and Breslin's been nominated. And director Brad Anderson is the bomb when it comes horror and thrillers, what with his Session 9 and The Machinist. The Call follows a 911 operator who ends up dealing with a killer from her past after a young girl calls the center, kidnapped in the trunk of a car.  Working against the film is the plot has elements of Taken and Buried, and the trailer shows every beat we'll see in the movie. Still, there's talent involved, which gives me hope that The Call will be worth the watch when it opens March 15.  Trailer courtesy of Yahoo.

Rasmussen Brothers' Dark Feed hits home in March

John Carpenter's The Ward was a decent return to the horror genre for the legendary director. Granted, it wasn't up to the snuff of his earlier work. But still, it was new Carpenter. Now the writers of The Ward, Michael and Shawn Rasmussen, have penned and directed another horror movie, Dark Feed. And it's ready to hit DVD, Digital Download and VOD March 19 by way of Lionsgate Home Entertainment. The official synopsis: when a film crew moves into an abandoned psychiatric hospital with a shadowy past to shoot a low budget horror film, they get more than they bargained for. The late nights and lack of sleep begin to take a toll, and the longer this crew works, the more the leaky, wet building seems to be coming back to life, feeding off its new inhabitants. And because we can, here's the flick's trailer. This is one you know we'll be checking out. Thanks to Horror-Movies.ca for the skinny.

Hell hath no fury like this Girls Against Boys trailer

This twisted looking little flick came right in under our radar until I stumbled across the trailer below. And it looks like these chicks dish out some pretty brutal stuff. The plot for Girls Against Boys is simple: genre hottie Danielle Panabaker plays Shae, who learns her older boyfriend isn't nearly as far along in divorce proceedings as he has implied. After he dumps her, Shae bonds with redheaded stranger Lu, Nicole LaLiberte. The two go clubbing, get too drunk, and end up in a stranger's apartment with three guys who hope they're getting lucky. Things get grindhousely nasty from there. Girls Against Boys comes from the writng/directing mind of some dude named Austin Chick. Ten bucks says that's not really his last name. As for his film, looks promising. Female revenge movies can be decent . . . and nasty. I Spit on Your Grave anyone? The film opens Feb. 1. Thanks to the folks at Bloody Disgusting for the skinny.

A Good Day to Die Hard gets a bombastic trailer

Not that we're complaining. Oh no. Not us. Sure, there's the one CGI-enhanced sequence involving our plummeting heroes and an exploding helicopter, but the rest is pure gold. There's also more story this time, not that story is uber important with a movie like this. We've got explosions, gunfire, a hot chick in black lingerie riding a motorcycle, and The Bruce making funny. Bring on Feb. 14! And I gotta admit, the line "Me and my boy are gonna put a whuppin' on you" makes me proud to be the father of a son. John McClane (Bruce Willis) travels to Russia to help out his seemingly wayward son, Jack, only to discover that Jack is a CIA operative working to prevent a nuclear-weapons heist, causing the father and son to team up against underworld forces. Jai Courtney, most recently seen as one of the baddies in Jack Reacher, plays . . . well . . . Jack. Thanks to EW.com for the trailer.

Colin Farrell and Noomi Rapace get Dead Man Down

Colin Farrell is doing his damndest to get back on top in Hollywood, and thankfully he's chosen the action-hero route to do it. His Total Recall redo wasn't half bad and the trailer for his latest, Dead Man Down, looks mighty impressive. Doesn't hurt that he's recruited the director of the original Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Niels Arden Oplev, and the original Girl with the Dragon Tattoo herself, Noomi Rapace, to take him for the ride. In a nutshell, a crime lord's right-hand man is seduced by one of his boss's victims, a woman seeking retribution. Terrence Howard plays the crime lord. This looks pretty damn dark and edgy. And there's a fair amount of violence on display here too. Me likey long time. If you're going to make a bleak action movie, you can do far worse than hire the dude who made the original Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Dead Man Down opens March 8. Thanks to JoBlo.com for digging up the trailer.

A first look at Eli Roth's Aftershock

Don't let that headline mislead you though, the horror maestro doesn't direct the new thriller Aftershock. But Eli Roth did co-write it and he does co-star in it. So we're not totally bullshitting you. In Chile, a group of travelers who are in an underground nightclub when a massive earthquake hits quickly learn that reaching the surface is just the beginning of their nightmare. Nicolas Lopez directs while Selena Gomez, Andrea Osvart, and Ariel Levy join Roth for the mayhem. Aftershock hits theatres some time next year. Thanks to Collider for the heads up and IGN for the preview.

James Franco and Seth Rogen say This Is The End

I think I just peed myself. This Red Band trailer for the upcoming ensembles comedy This Is The End is that fucking funny. It starts with a found-footage style introduction by James Franco and Seth Rogen that is hilarious to begin with. Then the trailer kicks in and things get . . . messed up? Written and directed by Rogen and Evan Goldberg and starring Rogen, Franco, Jay Baruchel, Craig Robinson, Danny McBride and Jonah Hill as themselves, the film finds six friends trapped in a house after a series of strange and catastrophic events devastate Los Angeles. Inspired to be sure but, if the whole movie is as funny as this preview, we're in for a comedic gem. If the world does end tomorrow, I can die knowing that I watched some funny shit during my last day on Earth. Now get ready to laugh until you pee yourself. This Is The End arrives in theatres June. 14.

John Dies at the End gets a Red Band trailer

Oh my God does Don Coscarelli's John Dies at the End ever look awesome! On VOD Dec. 27 you say? Sign us up! And nothing sells a cult movie from the maker of Phantasm and Bubba Ho-Tep like a Red Band trailer. Movies like this need to be sold on their merits -- gore, boobs and fucked up shit -- and that's what the Red Band trailer below does. Thank Jebus for that! And check out the plot, mofos! A new street drug that sends its users across time and dimensions has one drawback: some people return as no longer human. Can two college dropouts save humankind from this silent, otherworldly invasion? I certainly want to find out! But enough said; give this bad boy a look. You know Shawn and I are watching this shit ASAP! Thanks to IGN for the trailer.

A full trailer takes Star Trek Into Darkness

A couple or weeks ago Paramount Pictures released a teaser for the Star Trek sequel, and there was much rejoicing. Now get ready to rejoice some more as the studio has unleashed a full trailer offering more . . . of everything. Still no official word on who Benedict Cumberbatch's villain is. There's a lot of speculation, which we've engaged in on this site and the show. But really, do we need to know? Don't we want to be surprised and excited when Star Trek Into Darkness hits theatres May 17? I know I do. I miss the days when movies were something I could get excited about. I haven't been truly excited for a movie since . . . I don't know when. But I'm feeling an inkling of excitement for this. And I am happy for that. After the crew of the Enterprise find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction. Paramount keeps killing our ...

A horde of posters arrive for rom-zom-com Warm Bodies

Now here's a romantic comedy we can get behind in The Basement, a touching story of a zombie and the girl he loves. How sweet! Below are five, count 'em five, posters for Summit Entertainment's Warm Bodies. And it comes from a guy who knows a thing or two about horror, comedy and romance -- writer/director Jonathan Levine. Yup, the dude who made All the Boys Love Mandy Lane, The Wackness and 50/50. After a zombie becomes involved with the girlfriend of one of his victims, their romance sets in motion a sequence of events that might transform the entire lifeless world. Now tell me you don't want to see that. Warm Bodies stars Nicholas Hoult, Teresa Palmer, Dave Franco and John Malkovich. It opens in theatres everywhere Feb. 1 . . . just in time for Valentine's Day. Now for the posters! And now the preview, because we can. Cheers to our bros at Arrow in the Head for the loot.

Robots kick monster ass in this Pacific Rim trailer

I've avoided discussing the latest Guillermo del Toro epic simply because I wanted to have some footage to put what is literally one of the most bad to the ass movie ideas ever in context. Monster have come to Earth. We've built giant robots to fight them with. Cue action. Now Warner Bros. has put out a trailer for the upcoming summer blockbuster, and holy shit fuck, as Basement Contributor Matt Bellamy would say. Or maybe it was holy shit wow. Either way. Holy shit! This looks great. Simply great. We've got monsters, giant robots and combat. What more could one ask for in a blockbuster? Boobs. Well, everything is better with boobs. You read that here first. Pacific Rim stars Charlie Hunnam, Ron Perlman, Idris Elba, giant robots, and a bunch of monsters. It opens July 12, and my ass will be there. Now watch this epic shit! Kudos to Warner Bros. UK for the preview.

Preview Day continues with The Lone Ranger trailer

Either I'm drunk, high or getting old . . . or there's at least two upcoming summer movies worth getting excited about. The first is the Superman retelling Man of Steel. The second is Disney's adaptation of the classic cowboy hero The Lone Ranger. And the preview below makes this version of my dad's favourite character look pretty damn slick. While the teaser focused on trains and shooting, this preview reveals more of the friendship between The Lone Ranger (Armie Hammer) and his trusted sidekick Tonto (Johnny Depp). I like how producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Gore Verbinski have stayed true to the Ranger's origins, but brought a few new elements to the table. I'm cool with that, and I'm sure dad would be too. As for the plot, Native American spirit warrior Tonto recounts the untold tales that transformed John Reid, a man of the law, into a legend of justice. Enough chatter, there's some galloping to get to. Thanks to JoBlo.com for ...
