Review: Plaguers

Last week I wrote about the 10th anniversary Blu-ray release of Plaguers by Wild Eye Releasing... and admitted I'd never heard of the movie. That left me feeling something akin to shame, as I love B-movies with all my heart. So I rectified the situation immediately, and ordered the Blu-ray. It arrived this past weekend, and I sat down and watched it last night. Was it worth the money and time? Stick with me! Plaguers looks and feels like a Roger Corman production from the 80s. The filmmaking, special effects, and sensibilities are firmly grounded in that era and style of moviemaking. Thing is, Plaguers came out in 2008, so I'm thinking writer/director Brad Sykes had little to no cash, and did what he could with what he had. The result is a mash-up of Alien and Night of the Living Dead. So yeah, this is a space-zombie movie that looks like it was made on cardboard sets with first-time actors hot off a university production. Which is fine, as that's pretty much wha...

Cult classic Plaguers comes to Blu-ray and DVD

Not gonna lie, I'd never heard of the 2009 sci-fi/horror hybrid Plaguers until a PR firm hit us with an email announcing the cult classic's release on Blu-ray and DVD. But yes, Brad Sykes' film is on disc for the first time thanks to the folks at Wild Eye Releasing. I'm sure fans are pretty excited. This 10th Anniversary Edition includes audio commentary and a previously unseen Q&A involving the cast, which includes genre legend Steve Railsback. Check it out... the trailer that is: When an alien contagion is released aboard a spaceship, transforming its victims into demonic flesh eaters, the crew must destroy the infected or join them. Looks and sounds like fun. Might have to hits this one up now that it's out on disc and digital Source: Wild Eye Releasing
