Vin Diesel's Bloodshot comes home March 24

Following in the footsteps of Universal Studios, Sony Pictures announced they will release Vin Diesel's comic-book inspired action flick Bloodshot to VOD next Tuesday... less than two weeks after it hit theatres! Universal already opted to bring The Invisible Man and The Hunt (which hit theatres within the last few weeks) home this Friday, and said the planned theatrical release of Trolls World Tour is off, and the movie comes home tomorrow. Movie theatres are closed around the world due to COVID-19, prompting studios to postpone some releases indefinitely, and bring others to the home market in unprecedented time. Bloodshot's digital purchase will go for $19.99. This is a bit different than what Universal offers, which is $19.99 for a 48-hour rental. Either way, the movie-distribution game just changed. Clearly, there is no need for a window between theatrical and digital release. I say unleash all movies at home and in theatres at the same time, and let audiences ch...

It's bath time in this The Grudge reboot clip

Just because we think it's time Hollywood needs to focus on telling new, and interesting, stories doesn't mean Hollywood is listening. A reboot of The Grudge is two weeks away, and the marketing machine is in full swing. I'm not sure if there's any demand for another Grudge movie. Although fans of the Asian original, and the 2004 remake, I know we're not excited for it here in The Basement, no matter how competently put together it looks. Below is a clip from the film, featuring the talented John Cho. All the elements that made the Sarah Michelle Geller flick decent are on display here -- and this one takes place in the same universe as that one -- but I still can't get into it. Maybe you can, so watch: This Grudge is written and directed by Nicolas Pesce, and is once again produced by Sam Raimi. Cho is joined by Andrea Riseborough and Betty Gilpin. The film hits theatres Jan. 3. Source: Sony

The Grudge trailer will keep you outta the shower

Remember when Psycho made showers scary? Well, probably not. It came out before even I was born. But no doubt you heard the impact the classic shower scene had on audiences. It's the stuff of cinematic legend. The Grudge reboot looks to make showering -- and bathrooms in general -- scary again. In fact, this trailer for director Nicolas Pesce's new flick is pretty darn effective. It re-introduces you to the backstory while setting up new characters and situations. And it's got a pretty stellar cast too. Take a boo: Yup, that's John Cho and Lin Shaye, plus indie fave Andrea Riseborough. While it might seem like a complete reboot, this film actually takes place at the same time as 2004's The Grudge starring Sarah Michelle Gellar. Whether it's as scary as that movie remains to be seen. We'll find out when The Grudge creeps into theatres Jan. 3, 2020. Source: Sony

Sequel to The Equalizer in the works

Bet you didn't know the popular 80s TV series The Equalizer was being made into a movie. Well, you might have. I shouldn't make an assumption like that, because then I make an ass of you and numption. But The Equalizer will indeed hit the big screen this September, with Denzel Washington in the title role and his Training Day director Antoine Fuqua behind the camera. This alone gives me hope.
