The Basement's Halloween Spooktacular

'Twas the weekend before Halloween, and all through the house, some creatures are stirring... and they aren't a mouse... or mice... or whatever... But Jason and Shawn are back with a Halloween special designed to hit you right in your creep-out zone as they review Patrick Lussier and Todd Farmer's latest effort, Trick! Lussier and Farmer were originally tasked with crafting a sequel to Rob Zombie's two Halloween movies. That flick didn't happen, but the talented duo obviously had a Halloween-themed story to tell. Is their new movie as good as My Bloody Valentine 3D and Drive Angry? Stick with us! And stick around as The Basement Boys sound off on their Top 5 things to watch this Halloween. There's some expected flicks and TV shows on the list, and some that might surprise you. Either way, Jason and Shawn have some choice viewing ideas that might help you plan your post-trick-or-treat watch. Throw in some commentary on the latest movie trailers, a revie...

Review: Trick

Some movies are critic proof. I'd hypothesize most horror and action movies, and comedies, fall into that category. And that's because fans go in knowing what they want and, as long as they get it, they're happy. The new slasher pic Trick is one such movie. Director Patrick Lussier, who wrote this with long-time writing partner Todd Farmer, has crafted a violent, gory Halloween-based slasher that is exactly what we want such a film to be; a violent, gory Halloween-based slasher. If you go in wanting anything more than that... well, then I can't help you. Lussier and Farmer made the brilliant My Bloody Valentine 3D and the fun Drive Angry. They wear their sensibilities on their sleeves, and those sensibilities are, for the most part, on display here. Police gun down a masked killer on Halloween night in 2015, but the killer comes back every year to kill again, working his way toward the survivors and cops who shot him. I lost track of the body count after 30 mi...

Will Michael Myers kill again in Halloween 3D?

Looks like The Weinstein Company isn't done with the Halloween franchise after all as word broke out of Cannes today that Halloween 3D is once again headed to the big screen. Granted, that's all we know about the project, but it's something.

Jai Courtney will be Kyle Reese in the new Terminator

It's official, Terminator : Genesis has its Kyle Reese , and he will be played by A Good Day to Die Hard 's Jai Courtney . Courtney joins Emilia Clarke (Sarah Connor), Jason Clarke (John Connor) and the one and only Arnold Schwarzenegger in the new flick, which is intended to kick off a trilogy of Terminator films.

Arnold Schwarzenegger will be in Terminator 5

Never mind that no one bothered to go watch Arnold Schwarzenegger's The Last Stand this past weekend, the Austrian Oak will return to the franchise that made him a superstar -- The Terminator . We say shame to all of you who ignored The Last Stand, by the way. Shame! Arnold is quoted as saying so during a recent press junket in London for The Last Stand. He also told the media he's scheduled for the Twins sequel, Triplets, and another Conan movie. Even at 65, the man knows how to stay busy. The question now is what role will Schwarzenegger play in the latest Terminator, which is being penned by Patrick Lussier and Laeta Kalogridis . Not that it really matters, the man's involvement makes this a must see, Terminator: Salvation be damned. Halloween 3D gets a release date

There was a time when news of another Halloween film would have filled me with a dark kind of joy. Given that Halloween 3D is supposed to be a continuation of the story Rob Zombie ended in his Halloween 2 and will contain the component of three extra dollars, I'm less than jazzed. Empireonline.com is reporting that the film is slated for an Oct. 28, 2012 release. No word yet on if director Patrick (My Bloody Valentine 3D and Drive Angry) Lussier and screenwriter Todd Farmer are still involved. The two were attached to the project a year or so ago but moved on to Drive Angry instead. The plot, according to Lussier talking to MTV last year, picks up right after Zombie's Halloween 2 and strips the character back to his John Carpenter roots, whatever that means. And again, what's the point given Zombie's interpretation was finished. This project stinks of pure greed on the part of the producers and studio, Dimension Films. I love the Halloween series, but feel Carpent...

Trailer Alert: Drive Angry 3D

Two Nicolas Cage-related stories in one week? Shawn's going to explode. But maybe not when he sees this trailer for the new grindhouse-style action/horror movie from director Patrick Lussier, who made the great My Bloody Valentine 3D. Now there are some who are sick of 3D and will find the preview borderline cheesy, almost campy even. I agree completely. But we here in The Basement don't mind cheese and camp if done right, and we love us our ultraviolence. As for 3D, yup. We're sick of it. But Lussier used the technology to great effect in MBV3D, so I'm willing to give him a break this time around. Oh, and Amber Heard is in this. Yum! The film is due out early next year. Give the trailer a view and share your thoughts.
