Neill Blomkamp off the RoboCop remake

Little more than a year ago we told you District 9 director Neill Blomkamp was on board the pending RoboCop reboot at MGM. This was pretty cool news as Blomkamp's penchant for violence and social commentary seemed a perfect fit for the franchise. And he was intent on making it a sequel to the original film, much as the new Halloween was, and would ignore the sequels, TV series, and lacklustre remake. Well, not any more he's not. Check out why from the man himself: Off Robocop. I am shooting new horror/thriller and MGM can’t wait/ need to shoot Robocop now. Excited to watch it in theaters with other fans. N — Neill Blomkamp (@NeillBlomkamp) August 15, 2019 And there is no rejoicing... Funny how studios work. You'd think creativity and talent would trump a need to get something out to the masses. But I've dabbled in this business for nine years now, and shouldn't be surprised this is not the case. My enthusiasm for more RoboCop has wained... but I am...

Check out Neill Blomkamp's live-action Anthem trailer

My wife, Game Time With Jess , is the big video-game player in our house. And she's well aware of next week's much anticipated BioWare release, Anthem. A first-person shooter, Anthem looks like it's going to be a pretty rad game; one that should satisfy my digital blood lust.

Skyscraper and Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation

Jason and Shawn return one more time before a two-week hiatus, with an all-new episode featuring their latest appearance on the Radio NL 610 AM Morning Show with Howie Reimer, plus a bunch of other cool shat. That's right, the Basement Boys talk Dwayne Johnson's latest effort, the Die Hard in a skyscraper action flick Skyscraper, plus the Adam Sandler animated Sequel Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation.

District 9 director to helm RoboCop sequel

And we're not talking a sequel to the 2014 remake either. Nope! Neill Blomkamp will direct a sequel to the 1987 Paul Verhoeven classic that starred Peter Weller and coined the phrase "I'd buy that for a dollar." Sweetening the deal: the script for RoboCop Returns is by Michael Miner and Edward Neumeier, who penned the original film, with a polish by Justin Rhodes, who scripted the upcoming Terminator.

Zygote and the return of Amy Wickenheiser

The Basement is two bastards and a bastardette once more as everyone's favourite female Spider-Man fan -- Amy Wickenheiser -- returns to the studio! What's Amy been up to and what does she have to say? Stick with us!

The return of Amy Wickenheiser

Jason and Shawn have been back at it for more than a month now, but one key player in their podcast game has been missing... Amy Wickenheiser!

Jason versus Elysium

Writer/director Neil Blomkamp exploded out of nowhere with the brilliant District 9 , crafting a thoughtful and exciting sci-fi/action flick with a moral conscience. How does his follow-up effort rate? Stick with me! In the year 2154, the very wealthy live on a man-made space station while the rest of the population resides on a ruined Earth . A man takes on a mission that could bring equality to the polarized worlds. No, Elysium isn't as good as District 9. Not by a long shot. It's not as thoughtful, clever or exciting. And the sum total of exploding bodies is considerably less. Sad critic is sad. But I still enjoyed Elysium as it was. Blomkamp certainly has something to say about the haves and the have nots, and I dug what he was slinging. What action there is is awesome, especially a couple of throwdowns between Matt Damon and Sharlto Copley and Copley's henchmen. I dug the cast too. Damon is born to play roles like this. I wish he tackled more action fi...

Second Elysium trailer shows Matt Damon action

Matt Damon became an unexpected action star with the Jason Bourne movies , but has never tried to follow that success up with anything substantial. Elysium looks to change all that. Not only does the sci-fi flick feature Damon running and fighting for his life, but it unites the superstar with writer/director Neill Blomkamp , who burst onto the scene four years ago with the brilliant -- and surprisingly deep -- District 9 . What does this mean for moviegoers? The closest thing to a blockbuster with the brains that we're likely to see this year. And one that will bring the boom, as the below trailer promises. Observe: Set in the year 2154, where the very wealthy live on a man-made space station while the rest of the population resides on a ruined Earth , a man takes on a mission that could bring equality to the polarized worlds.  Elysium also stars Jodie Foster , William Fichtner and Sharlto Copley . It hits theatres Aug. 9. Source: JoBlo.com Related art...

Elysium trailer will hunt you to the end of the Earth

Neill Blomkamp 's District 9 is one of the best sci-fi movies in recent memory; a perfect mix of big ideas, deep emotion, and violent action.  Suffice to say the entire Basement crew is looking forward to Blomkamp's next -- the highly anticipated Elysium . And today the ante got upped with the release of the movie's trailer, which is so awesome that we've been awesomed out by its awesomeness. Set in the year 2159, where the very wealthy live on a man-made space station while the rest of the population resides on a ruined Earth , a man ( Matt Damon ) takes on a mission that could bring equality to the polarized worlds.  Watch now, bitches!   Told yah it looks fucking awesome. Not much more I can say, other than bring on Aug. 9!
