Jason versus Fast & Furious 6

With oodles of time on my hands, I thought I should catch up with some blockbusters that have long been on my radar. How does the latest entry in the long-running car franchise stack up? Stick with me. Hobbs has Dom and Brian reassemble their crew in order to take down a mastermind who commands an organization of mercenary drivers across 12 countries. Payment? Full pardons for them all. I am enthralled with how this franchise has developed. Taking a street-racing/crime flick and turning it into a globe-trotting caper series was a ballsy move. Fortunately director Justin Lin , screenwriter Chris Morgan and the entire cast and crew are up to the challenge. This movie is awesome! From the opening chase along an ocean highway to the final, almost unbelievable runway throw down, this is a fun and exciting ride. Props too for keeping the action practical, at least for the most part. My jaw dropped several times. And I laughed too. Fast & Furious 6 has a great sense of humour ...

Amber Heard is sexy with a gun in this Machete Kills pic

Let's face it, it's Friday night. Y'all got beer to drink, movies to watch, and places to be. So we're not going waste a lot of your time. And what better way not to waste your time than with a new pic of Amber Heard from the upcoming grindhouse sequel Machete Kills, due out Oct. 11? Here you go: Very nice. Heard plays a character called, appropriately enough, Miss San Antonio in the flick, which brings back scary dude Danny Trejo as Machete. This time he's recruited by the U.S. government to battle his way through Mexico in order to take down an arms dealer who looks to launch a weapon into space. Just cause we're all about equal opportunity here in The Basement, we're gonna close with a pic of main bad dude Mel Gibson. Yup, Mad Mel plays a bad guy in The Expendables 3 AND Machete Kills. Good for Mel! Machete Kills also stars Jessica Alba , Michelle Rodriguez , Sofia Vergara , Antonio Banderas and Charlie Sheen as the President of the United S...

Regular listeners know one gal Shawn is gaga for -- other than his awesome wife of course -- is Michelle Rodriguez . Boobs with guns in this new Machete Kills poster

It's rare when one image combines two things we enjoy so much here in The Basement -- boobs and guns! Literally, it doesn't get any cooler than this new poster from Machete Kills. The boobs and guns in question belong to Modern Family's own Sofia Vergara , who plays a character named Desdemona in the Mexploitation sequel Machete Kills . We don't really need to know much more than that. Enjoy the boobtastic image: Now that we're able to move on, Vergara is joined by Danny Trejo , Michelle Rodriguez , Mel Gibson, Jessica Alba, Demian Bichir , Amber Heard , Alexa Vega , Zoe Saldana, William Sadler, Edward James Olmos , Charlie Sheen, Elise Avellan and Electra Avellan . Jason and Shawn's Top 5 genre hotties

What makes a genre hottie? Is it the body? The face? The personality? The ability to scream? This is something Shawn and I ponder on our Stolen and Dredd episode of Film Reviews from the Basement. Because radio doesn't come with pictures, we decided to post images of our Top 5 picks right here for your viewing pleasure. If you want to hear what we have to say, you gotta listen to the podcast. Yes, we're bastards that way. But the episode is embedded below the lovely ladies. And for the record, Brooke Lewis is the ultimate genre hottie. These are the best of the rest. Stick with us! Shawn's picks: 5. Darryl Hannah 4. Jessica Biel 3. Sheri Moon-Zombie 2. Kate Beckinsale 1. Michelle Rodriguez Jason's picks: 5. Kristy Swanson 4. Emily Blunt 3. Jessica Biel 2. Machete will kill with Amber Heard

Because one story about Amber Heard a week isn't enough . . . the genre fave and all-around hottie has signed on for the much-anticipated sequel, Machete Kills. And she's in good babe company too, joining series' veterans Jessica Alba and Shawn's fave, Michelle Rodriguez. Heard will play an assassin code-named Miss San Antonio. Also along for the ride are Machete himself, Danny Trejo, and legendary action dude Mel Gibson. That's right, Mel Gibson. The story, as we've previously reported, is as follows: "Machete is recruited by the U.S. Government for a mission which would be impossible for any mortal man. Machete must battle his way through Mexico to take down a madman cartel leader and an eccentric billionaire arms dealer who has hatched a plan to spread war across the planet with a weapon in space. Machete takes on an army in an effort to dismantle a plan for global anarchy." Machete Kills is due out next year.

Reconnect with Resident Evil

To tell the truth, I'm surprised at how popular these Resident Evil movies are. Only one of them, Extinction, is really any good. The rest are passable enough time killers made only mildly interesting by the presence of the Milla Jovovich -- one of the few convincing action heroines on the planet. What Sony has done right with all the films, which will number five by the time Resident Evil: Retribution hits theatres this fall, is the marketing. These movies are sold really well, and that trend continues with the latest offering. I like the way this trailer opens, I really do. It harkens back to the first film, which teased us with a commercial and then hit us with the goods. The last bit of footage makes Retribution look like any other Resident Evil movie, but if you dig them, that's why you're gonna go see it. Joining Jovovich for Resident Evil: Retribution are Sienna Guillory (the pic above), Colin Salmon, Shawn Roberts, Michelle Rodriguez, Johann Urb, Oded Fehr, K...

Micro Review: Machete

I'm late to the punch here on this one as Shawn and Anthony Michael Bosa have already watched this bad boy. But better late than never right!?! Machete is bad ass. It's a throwback to the 1970's blacksploitation era, only with a Mexican. Think of this as a more serious take on Black Dynamite. There's truckloads of action and gore and some great bit roles for the awesome likes of Don Johnson, Robert De Niro, Jeff Fahey, and Steven Seagal. Michelle Rodriguez and Jessica Alba supply the hotness. Too bad the whole silly project collapses under its own weight in the final reel. I'm glad I saw it and I did enjoy it, but I will likely not watch it again. That rates Machete a Bad for me.

Latest Battle: Los Angeles trailer ups the awesome

A trailer's job is to sell a movie to a mass audience and, more often than not, they do too good a job. Shawn, Anthony Michael Bosa and I have lost track of the number of times we've been sucker punched by movie marketing, which means you'd think we'd have learned our lesson by now. But every trailer that appears for the upcoming sci-fi action movie Battle: Los Angeles makes the film look better and better. The latest, embedded below thanks to Yahoo Movies , is the coolest by far. Not only does it offer more action and effects, but it plays up the story's focus, which is on the military response to the threat. All of us in The Basement were let down by the fact that Skyline focused on boring rich kids. At the very least, director Jonathan Liebesman's effort has got the character angle right. If you're going to make an alien invasion flick, give us the action! To say we're jazzed for this film is an understatement. But we'll have to wait until M...
