Insomniac Theatre: She Gods of Shark Reef (1958)

Movies can transport us to magical lands, take us on grand adventures, and witness feats of wonder. But some movies can make us wish that we'd ridden on the Titanic instead... Two brothers (one good, one bad) wind up stranded on a small island in the Pacific Ocean inhabited by only women.  The good brother falls in love (instantly) with one of the young natives, while the bad brother looks for a way escape before a naval boat rescues them.  Circumstances and greed bring the two brothers to a climatic battle, and oceanic justice...

Insomniac Theatre: Horrors of Spider Island (1960)

Ah, the 1960's- the era of exploitation films. Ah, the 1960's- the era of cheesy, campy horror movies. Ah, the 1960's- the era of "Horrors of Spider Island"...

Insomniac Theatre: "The Sting" (1973)

Paul Newman.  Robert Redford.  Two of the most iconic stars in Hollywood's history.  These two also gave Hollywood two of it's most iconic movies: " Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid " (1969)... and 1973's " The Sting "... After his mentor Luthor is killed for grifting money from a local mobster, Johnny Hooker seeks out Henry Gondorff to exact some revenge.  The two concoct what will go down in history as "The Big Con"... provided the cops and the mobster's assassin don't get them first...

Insomniac Theatre: "The Hindenburg" (1975)

I recently bought a "Disaster Movie 4-Pack", and since disaster movies are very much a common sight on late night TV, I figured I would pop one into the machine for the latest visit to The Insomniac Theatre.  The 4-pack had the classic " Airport " (1969), " Earthquake " (1974), " Rollercoaster " (1977), and finally the 1975 film, " The Hindenburg "... After a letter is received at the German Embassy, warning of a plot to blow up the famous airship, The Hindenburg, Colonel Ritter of the Luftwaffe is assigned to discretely investigate, and potentially eliminate any threats to the prized symbol of Nazi Germany's might and prestige.

Insomniac Theatre: "Krull" (1983)

You may be thinking, "HEY!  Didn't you already review this movie?  I'm outraged!"  You'd be partially right.  Not too long ago, Jay did a Drunken Review of " Krull ".  I had actually watched it back in December (those that follow me on Instagram will remember it), with the intention of reviewing it myself. So, yeah- it has been reviewed.  But I'm not the one that did it. So simmer the outrage to a light boil and read on, eh?

Insomniac Theatre: Queen of the Amazons (1947)

Late night movie viewing is the time when you usually come across obscure little films.  Some of them keep you awake with interest... while others seem to help cure your insomnia... Seeking to find her missing fiance, Jean assembles a small expedition to the jungles of Africa.  Fear, sabotage, and death follow the group amidst hushed rumours of "white she-devils" that rule the dark jungles.  Is her fiance alive... or has the "White Goddess" gotten him...?

Insomniac Theatre: Android Insurrection (2012)

Movie history is filled with great movies about machines turning against humanity.  " Terminator ", " The Matrix ".... " Maximum Overdrive "... And then there's " Android Insurrection "... A group of elite soldiers in the year 2353 are dispatched to eliminate a rogue AI before it creates the ultimate killing machine .

Insomniac Theatre: "The Foreigner" (2017)

Sometimes, late night movie viewing can give you the opportunity to discover a rare gem of a movie- such as Jackie Chan's 2017 " The Foreigner ". After an IRA bombing kills his daughter, Ngoc Minh Quan asks the police to give him the names of the bombers involved.  They refuse to do so, and advise him to let them deal with things.  When Deputy First Minister Liam Hennessy- a former IRA member, denounces the attack, Quan seeks Hennessy's assistance in tracking down the bombers.

Insomniac Theatre: "The Incredible Petrified World" (1957/1960)

What sort of film fits into the world of The Insomniac Theatre?  Well, movies that were completed in 1957... but not actually released until three years later for starters... Four oceanographers exploring the deep get trapped in a maze of underwater caverns.  They must find their way out before the volcano above them erupts... or they fall victim to a mysterious shipwreck survivor dwelling within the winding tunnels...

Insomniac Theatre: "Rampage" (2018)

Monster movies are a staple of the late night movie world, which means 2018 " Rampage " fits right into the Insomniac Theatre's roster of offerings. And what an offering it was...

Insomniac Theatre: "Swamp Women" (1956)

It's 3:00 am.  The air wafting through the drapes is hot- slowly sucking the moisture from you.  Your restless mind feels clogged with cotton balls. You can't sleep, but you can't fully wake up either. That's when the flickering images on the TV screen catch your attention and you realize that you're watching an old movie. You're watching " Swamp Women "...

Insomniac Theatre: "Dune" (1984)

It's 2:30 am, the summer night breeze is wafting through the open balcony door as the distant, lonely sound of a train floats mournfully as it passes. And I find myself watching David Lynch's 1984 film, " Dune "- based on Frank Herbert's novel of the same name.

Insomniac Theatre: "14 Blades" (2010)

At one time or another, we have all been there- unable to sleep, flipping idly through the channels and creating our own story from the bits and fragments we catch between channel flips, until we come across a show or movie that makes us go, "Huh... this might be interesting." Or in my case, flipping through my DVD/Blu-Ray collection.
