New stills, trailer for The Night Sitter

Saying a flick is from the creators of Final Destination means something to me. I love the Final Destination movies. Some more than others for sure, but as a whole, they're a fun watch. John Rocco and Abiel Bruhn's upcoming The Night Sitter certainly has some promise. It's a cool idea that seems kinda like an 80s throwback. And, given the trailer, it has the potential for some scares as well.

A real life Final Destination

OK, not really. But the compilation video below does show four minutes of people cheating death in a way that would make the brains behind the Final Destination franchise proud. Some of the near-death experiences are truly mind blowing. Yet, at the same time, this is perfect Sunday night viewing if you're a little bit warped like The Basement Boys. Enjoy, if you can. The Month of Horror Day 16: Final Destination

Basement contributor Matt Bellamy has taken it upon himself to watch and review at least one horror movie a day for the month of October . . . because he's awesome that way! For this entry, Bellamy looks death in the face, and laughs. My favourite horror series over the last decade; it's not like they're particularly great movies but they really speak to my sick, twisted, and blood thirsty sensibilities. I actually love t he concept: death a.k.a. the grim reaper seeking to right the wrongs when someone manages to escape or cheat their fate, sending them six feet under in some of the most ingenious and creative methods imaginable. You never see the villain, it's always just some sort of supernatural force that will stop at nothing to balance out the universe. The first in the series follows a group of high school students and a teacher that were supposed to perish on a flight to Paris how...

Trailer Alert: Final Destination 5

Some might groan at the prospect of yet another entry in this long-running franchise. Not I. In fact, I dig the Final Destination flicks more than the Saw films or any other current horror series. Sure they're redundant, and the last film was pretty terrible, but the other entries have been gold as far as cool and clever kills are concerned. The Final Destination films are the Friday the 13ths of the new millennium. As long as the quality holds up and people keep going to see them, Hollywood will keep churning them out. And I will be there watching. Below is the preview for the latest entry, and it looks damn fine. It's nice to have Tony Todd back and, for the most part, the filmmakers appear to have avoided the cheap looking CGI that sank the last film. We'll know for sure when Final Destination 5 lands in theatres later this summer. Until then, push play and sound off!

Beware of Shark Attack

First Piranhas and now sharks.     Director David R. Ellis (Final Destination 2, Snakes On A Plane) has cast his first four vacationers for his upcoming 3D epic, the aptly titled Shark Night 3D.  Heat Vision reports Ellis has cast Sinqua Walls (Savage County), Chris Carmack (The Butterfuly Effect: Revelation), Alyssa Diaz (Red Dawn) and Joel David Moore (Avatar).  Who cares about a cast of people no one has heard of? I agree. But the horror film, penned by Jesse Studenberg and Will Hayes, revolves around seven men and women who spend a weekend at a lake house in Louisiana's Gulf area and find their vacation quickly becomes a nightmare of hellish shark attacks, unheard of in freshwater lakes. The group soon discover that the sharks are part of a sick, greedy plan on the part of several locals.  If done right, this could be a lot of fun. The film rolls in September.
