Review: Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw

You gotta love a movie that knows what it is and embraces it. Fortunately, the Fast and the Furious spinoff Hobbs & Shaw is just such a movie. Think a modern retelling of 80s action staple Tango & Cash cross bred with the Pierce Brosnan era of James Bond movies and infused with, well, the Fast and the Furious mindset, and that's pretty much Hobbs & Shaw.

Wanna see an extended clip from Fast Five?

Sure yah do! Everyone likes clips, trailers and all that cool embedded stuff. Especially when it gives you a taste of what looks to be a key scene from the upcoming Vin Diesel, Paul Walker and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson starring Fast Five. I'm a sucker for these movies, I really am. I know Shawn isn't, but he digs The Rock as an actor and action star. The sequence below involves the theft of a bank vault using two Dodge Chargers. The first minute or so is somewhat pedestrian. Then Diesel and Walker tow the vault through a busy city street and demolition ensues. I like what I see here, especially the last couple of minutes of what is obviously a long sequence of smashing stuff. Will I see this movie? Sure. Eventually. I like me fast cars, hot women (there are a couple on display here) and smashing stuff. Fast Five hits theatres April 29.

Trailer Alert: the full trailer for Fast Five

Another day, another Vin Diesel update. What can I say? The man gets around. Below is the latest preview for the upcoming Fast Five, which re-teams Diesel with Paul Walker and pits both original cast members against The Rock himself, Dwayne Johnson. And it looks like Diesel and Johnson throw down. Sold! I've enjoyed most of The Fast and the Furious movies and think this looks like it could be the best since the first. It's nice to see a move toward more practical stunts and, after watching the preview twice, I want to own a Dodge Charger now more than ever. Fast Five is due out April 29.

Mark 2011 as year of the sequel

Further proof that Hollywood is out of fresh material, the following is a list of sequels due out this year: First sequels: Cars 2 Diary Of Wimpy Kid 2 Hangover 2 Happy Feet 2 Hoodwinked Too! Johnny English Reborn Kung Fu Panda 2 Piranha 3DD Sherlock Holmes 2 Second Sequels: Alvin & The Chipmunks 3 Big Momma’s House 3 Madea’s Big Happy Family Too Paranormal Activity 3 Transformers 3 Third Sequels: Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol Pirates of the Caribbean 4 Scream 4 Spy Kids 4 Twilight: Breaking Dawn (part 1) Fourth Sequels: Fast Five Final Destination 5 Puss In Boots X-Men: First Class Winnie The Poo (kinda) Sixth Sequels (Kinda): The Muppets Rise of the Apes …and Harry Potter comes in as a Seventh Sequel. Isn't that fucked up!?! Do we need all these sequels? Does anyone really care? I know I don't. Out of the above list I am keen to see Sherlock Holmes 2, Piranha 3DD, Scream 4 and Fast Five. I will likely see Mission: Impossible ...

Trailer Alert: Fast Five

It's a crazy-ass day for yours truly outside of his Basement duties, but I would be remiss not to present this awesome trailer for the next installment in The Fast and The Furious franchise: Fast Five. Granted it looks like more of the same, but there's something about hot women, hot cars and Vin Diesel acting cool that pleases the B-movie fan in me. Throw in Dwayne Johnson and the promise of lots of stunts and I'm sold. And hot women. Cool. Here's the trailer:
