Marcus Flor vs. The Sinner Seasons 1-2

So I've been watching seasons one and two of The Sinner, and I must say I'm enjoying it. It's been a while since I've watched a series that actually has something interesting to say. It's certainly not flawless, but The Sinner offers a more complicated and human view of murder than you'd expect. It delves into the trauma that leads to the killing, and how that shapes the mind of the culprit. It's not often a show can put me in the headspace of a questionable, or even malicious, person, and make me understand his or her struggle. The acting, writing, and directing are all on point; subtly, but effectively, putting you in the lives of these characters. They pay a lot of attention to everyone's idiosyncrasies and ticks, making each person feel as though they have a storied life beyond our screen. Occasionally you'll get a random side character that seems less developed, but they usually stick around for, at most, one scene. The cinematography is fairly ...

You have 16 seconds to watch this new Equalizer trailer

The only movie I'm jonesed enough to see in theatres for the remainder of the year is The Equalizer . I was a huge fan of 80s TV series , am a huge Denzel Washington fan, I dig Antoine Fuqua as a director and every word I've heard about the flick so far has been positive. Can't say that about most movies can you. Not a question. A fact.

New pics from Denzel Washington's The Equalizer

While some might scoff at Denzel Washington taking on the mantel of The Equalizer , first portrayed by the great -- and very British --  Edward Woodward in the 1980s TV series , I'm all for it. Why? It's Denzel Washington, dammit. The man does no wrong. The flick, directed by Denzel's Training Day partner Antione Fuqua, doesn't hit until Sept. 26, but we've scored some new images from the movie thanks to the fine folks at USA Today .

Independence Day 2 possible release date!

Shawn here. Basement fans should know by now that I'm a huge fan of Independence Day.  So when I read the news of a 2015 "release date", I was elated. I read it here ! Do I care that Will Smith is in it, then not in it, then in it, then not? No I do not. Two things about this news: 1)  I love that they have had it set it up for a sequel that isn't just a "cash grab", but sad that they waited so long.

The Month of Horror Day 27: The Grudge (2004)

Basement contributor Matt Bellamy has taken it upon himself to watch and review at least one horror movie a day for the month of October . . . because he's awesome that way! Tonight, Bellamy learns it's never good to become trapped in the grip of a terrible rage. Much more of a straight up remake of its Japanese original than ' The Ring ' was, ' The Grudge ' doesn't try to relocate to North America but instead stays right where its source material originated. Th e decision to stay in Japan but bring in American actors like Sarah Michelle Gellar and Bill Pullman was a refreshing one--who says everything needs to be set on U.S. soil? I don't think this outing is quite as strong as 'The Ring' but that's my own personal opinion because I didn't think the original, ' Ju On ', had the most amazing story either however it's still fairly entertaini...
