Camp Dread director unites horror icons for Death House

That's right, our pal Harrison Smith has brought together Robert England, Danny Trejo, Dee Wallace, Doug Bradley and a many, many more of horror's familiar faces for an upcoming fright film that should please any genre fan. Long-time listeners and readers will remember Harrison has the man behind 6 Degrees of Hell and Camp Dread, two flicks Shawn and I enjoyed. And he was responsible for us interviewing Corey Feldman and Eric Roberts, which are high marks in Basement history.

Jason and Shawn versus 6 Degrees of Hell and Gut

6 Degrees of Hell Jason: I'm of two minds on 6 Degrees of Hell. On the plus side, it's a fun horror ride with a cool concept and batshit crazy conclusion when, well, all hell essentially breaks loose. There's some groovy stuff that goes on in this flick. I really like the Hotel of Horror, and the thought of being trapped in a creepy amusement park ride that suddenly comes to life is frightening. On the down side, screenwriter Harrison Smith is trying to do too much. There's too many characters, flashbacks within flashbacks, and unnecessary plot points. This is a case where less would have been more. And too bad the budget was low, because this is a movie that screamed for more blood and gore. As for Corey Feldman, he's this film's Sam Loomis, only with less to do. He spends the movie talking with a cop and, although I liked those scenes a lot, I wanted more of him. There should be a Kyle Brenner movie! Fans of his might be disappointed, because he ...

6 Degrees of Hell and Gut

Like Nero said in a deleted scene from J.J. Abrams Star Trek reboot, "The wait is over." How's that for random geek porn!?! But the wait IS over, as Jason and Shawn sound off on their Month from Hell entry 6 Degrees of Hell. That's right, the Basement Dwellers have finally watched the alleged Scariest Movie of 2012 starring THAT Corey Feldman. The question now is how does a film that the duo hyped sight unseen stack up? Stick with us! Then, submitted for the approval of the Basement Dwellers by writer/director Elias, is Gut -- a psychological thriller about two friends who become addicted to a snuff film. Some have called Gut slow and too subtle, others have praised it for being a low-budget movie with depth. Now it's time for Jason and Shawn to give their two cents. Plus Mike S. takes a break from being The Basement's official twit to provide tonight's episode with a movie review of his own. This time he turns his sites on the horror sequel Urban ...

An interview with Corey Feldman: The Halloween Spooktacular 3

The Lost Boys. Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter. Stand By Me. The Goonies. License to Drive. Dream A Little Dream. All classic movies of the 1980s. All of them star Corey Feldman. Corey started his career in TV, and is best known for his string of 80s movie blockbusters, but he's sustained a career in Hollywood for more than 35 years as an actor and singer. The star's own words say it best: he's more than a movie star, he's an icon. Tonight, Jason and Shawn bring The Month from Hell to a close with a 15-minute chat with 6 Degrees of Hell star Corey Feldman. And it becomes very clear very quickly how enthusiastic he is about director Joe Raffa and screenwriter Harrison Smith's horror film. The bulk of the conversation is about 6 Degrees of Hell, but Corey also touches on his earlier work. It's a great interview with a legend of the 80s, and one no movie fan wants to miss. As is the tradition with The Basement's annual Halloween Spooktacular, Jason a...

Bait 3D and Compliance

Sharks in a supermarket. Sound dumb? Yes. But that's the premise behind one of two movies The Basement Dwellers have on the chopping block tonight. The other is a true story that should send any level-headed human being into a nut-punching frenzy. Bait 3D is our first film of the night. And yes, this Australian entry does feature sharks in a supermarket. Now, this could be good or bad cheese, depending on how the proceedings are handled. We like shark movies in The Basement. Hell, Jason and Shawn endured a couple of Mega Shark flicks and Sharktopus just because. Is Bait 3D more Jaws than Deep Blue Sea? Stick with us! Then comes Compliance, a true story about a crank caller who convinces a fast food restaurant manager to interrogate an innocent employee. The film has polarized audiences and generated shouting matches at festival screenings. How does the flick sit with Jason and Shawn? Tune in tonight and find out. Which brings us to the third installment in The Month from ...
