Review: Cry Havoc

I'm not gonna lie, I wasn't familiar with Rene Perez's Playing with Dolls films going into Cry Havoc, which is actually the fourth film in the franchise. But I had watched Death Kiss, which paired Perez with Charles Bronson look-a-like Robert Bronzi. In fact, he's the reason I checked this film out.

Death Kiss wasn't awesome, but it was enjoyable. And I like the idea of someone carrying on the Bronson mantle, as eerie as it gets at times. So having Charles Bronson take on a Jason Voorhees-like slasher intrigued. What would happen? Who would be the victor?

What we get in Cry Havoc is a low-budget -- but slickly made -- slasher/action flick. The slasher flick has everything you'd want from such a film: bloody, brutal kills and boobies. The action flick has Charles Bronson... sorry, Robert Bronzi, shooting bad guys. Then the two movies collide at the end.

The ending is the only part that really disappointed me. I won't reveal what happens, but I felt a little let down. However, everything up to that point entertained me. I cringed at some of the kills, enjoyed oogling the beautiful women, and I like Bronzi as a screen presence, even if all he's doing is walking around killing bad guys. And Havoc is one mean mofo! A great slasher hero.

If you haven't seen any of the Playing With Dolls flicks, don't worry. You're given enough info to enjoy this one. BUT, if you don't dig low-budget slashers, and movies starring guys who look like Charles Bronson, then give this one a pass. That's really all there is to it.

That being said, I gotta give it a Good. This was a fine way to spend a Saturday night.

Top 5 quotes from the Rambo franchise

It's Rambo Day, which means it's a day we celebrate all things Rambo. And no, we didn't make that up. It's a real thing, and part of the lead in to Rambo: Last Blood coming out on Friday. We were going to celebrate by doing a Top 5 favourite Rambo kills, but the fine folks at Arrow in the Head already did something like that, so I figured why not share our favourite Rambo quotes. I like quotes. Quotes are good. Anyway, here we go with our Top 5, in no particular order: 5) "They drew first blood." - John Rambo, First Blood (1982) Because it's always cool when the hero references the title of the movie in a quote. 4) "Live for nothing, or die for something. Your call." - John Rambo, Rambo (2008) Because it's 100-per-cent truth, and is the exclamation mark on a great monologue by Stallone. 3) "I could have killed 'em all. I could kill you. In town, you're the law. Out here, it's me. Don't push it, or I'l...
