Into the MCU: "Iron Man 3" (2013)

Everyone thought "The Avengers" would be the culmination and final act of the Marvel Cinematic Universe- when in fact it was just the beginning...

Tony Stark is suffering from suffering Post Traumatic Stress from the "Battle of New York".  To combat this, he builds an army of Iron Man suits- only to find that it only served as a distraction from his issues.  After Happy is injured in an attack by the forces of a person calling himself "The Manchurian", Tony soon finds himself in a battle with his own identity... and monsters from his past...

I love how they incorporated alien invasion from "The Avengers" into the storyline.  It helped to solidify continuity, and brought depth to the characters.  While Killian was a fairly week character in terms of motivation (he was just another piece of Tony's past coming back to bite him- just like Mickey Rourke's character in "Iron Man 2"), I found that by giving Tony an inner struggle of dealing with his PTSD, and who he was without the Iron Man suit, really strengthened our hero's characterization.  I enjoyed The Manchurian- though I can understand why fans would be disappointed and upset at the resolution of his arc.

The acting boiled down to the skill of Robert Downey, Jr, Guy Pearce, and Ben Kingsley.  They all put in great performances- though I must confess that  Downey, and Kingsley stole the show for me- probably because of how weakly Pearce's character was written.

The visuals aren't as spectacular as they usually are in the MCU movies- but they are still great.

While it's certainly the weakest of the three "Iron Man" movies, I would at least give it a watch as it helps bring more depth to the character, and adds more nuance to him in the future instalments of the MCU.  But I probably wouldn't rewatch it.  I'm going to put "Iron Man 3" in "The Bad".

Top 5 quotes from the Rambo franchise

It's Rambo Day, which means it's a day we celebrate all things Rambo. And no, we didn't make that up. It's a real thing, and part of the lead in to Rambo: Last Blood coming out on Friday. We were going to celebrate by doing a Top 5 favourite Rambo kills, but the fine folks at Arrow in the Head already did something like that, so I figured why not share our favourite Rambo quotes. I like quotes. Quotes are good. Anyway, here we go with our Top 5, in no particular order: 5) "They drew first blood." - John Rambo, First Blood (1982) Because it's always cool when the hero references the title of the movie in a quote. 4) "Live for nothing, or die for something. Your call." - John Rambo, Rambo (2008) Because it's 100-per-cent truth, and is the exclamation mark on a great monologue by Stallone. 3) "I could have killed 'em all. I could kill you. In town, you're the law. Out here, it's me. Don't push it, or I'l...
