Greetings Basementites.
We are saddened to inform you of the loss of a great thing. That thing is ....us. We decided we would each take some time and give you some info on our decision to end The Basement as you know it.
Shawn here.
I guess it would be best to say that all good things must come to an end. I don't believe that, but that is what is happening with The Basement. Sadly, after six years, we've decided the responsibilities of our families must take precedence over the time we spend away from them maintaining this site.
We have done all of this out of the passion of enjoying and talking movies. I still love that. I would just love to leave it as pleasure and leave the "haveto" (what movie is that word from?) out of it.
I cannot speak exactly for my co-host in crime, but I can say it has been a helluva ride! I still enjoy watching movies. But I think it is time to remove the "work" of it before the passion goes away.
I would love to thank EVERYONE that has stuck with us through the years, and hope we provided you with some entertainment, insight on the "right" flicks to watch, and above all, share the joy that movies can bring.
Jason: Thank you. For all the extra work you did maintaining a content stream that was the latest up-to-datest in all things movies. That extra toll on your time was admirable, to say the least.
Basementites: We will leave the site up with our archived articles and some podcasts/radio shows. We may even have new content once in a while from old Basement contributors. Hell, if the site is here and I feel like leaving a rant about something I just watched, I will. But there will be no more regular content. There will be no more shows. If time and money allotted us, I'm sure I would come back in a heartbeat. But woe is NOT me. I'm happy to leave at the peak of something that has brought us this much love.
That said: I don't want to leave you with the worst "movie death" you've ever seen...but ....I.........ahhh.
Over to you, Jason.
Thanks brother. Shawn's pretty much said everything I was going to say. The Basement has been a labour of love for both of us, but the time has come to turn our attention to other things. Some of the fun has gone out of the passion, the process of doing this site and the show has become that dreaded word "work."
Big thanks to Anthony Michael Bosa, Mike S, Gametime Greg Goodwin, Matt Bellamy, Suzanne Cappelletti, Cory Hope, Kara Evans, Lachlan Labere, Jon Cross, Moe Porne, and everyone else who has contributed an article or voice to The Basement. And mad props to Cameron "The Establishment" Thompson for filling in for me while my son was being born.
To all our guests, who are literally too numerous to list here, you rock. Thank you for sharing your love of film with us. An especially big shout out to our favourite scream queen, Brooke Lewis. Halloween will never be the same without you. We love yah girl.
We'd be remiss, too, if we didn't thank the friends we made along the way, including Blu de Goyler, Lewis Cougill, Troy Foreman and James McLean.
John Fallon, you were the first guest on our show and became one of the best friends a couple of guys like Shawn and I could have. And you gave us a shot at making movies with you, which is something we will always be grateful to you for. We look forward to partying with you again soon, amigo!
Basementites, thank you for reading, listening and sticking with us all these years. You all made this trip one worth taking.
And Shawn, I'll let Jack Burton say it best: "We sure shook the pillars of heaven, didn't we." Not a question, a fact. Thanks for all your hard work, dedication and ear for detail. And yeah, we talked to Lance Henriksen ;)
Until we meet again, everyone, The Basement is closed. Good night, and good luck.

You guys have been friends, biz associates and huge supporters of my career and I am forever GRATEFUL!!! You are my special guys and I am PROUD of you for closing one door to allow another to open! Thank you Shawn and Jason for reviewing our movies! So sorry to see the basement close its door, but maybe it will open again someday. Until then, so very proud of being considered the first and second worst movies reviewed on your show!
ReplyDeleteStay alive and all the best.
