THE HAUNTED VILLAGE Part 1 of 2 (2021) - We Want to Believe

On a cold, wintery weekend before Halloween, the We Want to Believe team is invited to explore the Village of Ashcroft, which is in the Interior of British Columbia. Led on a tour of haunted locations by resident John W. Fair, the investigators not only learn about the community’s spooky history, but find themselves communicating with ghosts from the gold-rush era, and uncovering the sad story of two deceased children. Writer/director’s statement: Our trip to Ashcroft was the first time the team had no idea what it was in for prior to an investigation. All we had was an invite from John W. Fair to explore the area’s haunted past. We got more than we bargained for in terms of encounters with potential spirits, and ticked one more off the paranormal investigator’s bucket list by spending the night in a local cemetery. And it was cold… very, very cold. Here's some pics from the latest episode: An EVP session in the snow. Lead investigator Peter Renn and director Jason Hewlett What did...

We Want to Believe: The Hunt for Bigfoot Part 3 (2021)

The Hunt for Bigfoot Part 3: With the help of renowned cryptozoologist Ken Gerhard, the team explores the mythology of Bigfoot in terms of how it relates to people, and its habitat. Why is Bigfoot hard to find? What makes it the Hide and Seek Champion of the Universe? Where do they live, and how do they mark their territory? These are the questions Jason Hewlett, Sarah Jane, and Chris Bose attempt to answer, with Gerhard’s help, setting the stage for one final hunt... in the woods… at night! Writer/director statement: This episode wasn’t part of the original plan for our Hunt for Bigfoot episodes. Once we started venturing into the woods, and began compiling footage, we realized we’d stumbled across something we hadn’t anticipated finding – possible Bigfoot shelters and territorial markings! Having Ken Gerhard on hand to help explain things adds a lot to the episode, and it’s one of the best of this series, in my biased opinion. Here's some pics from the latest episode: Renowned cr...

We Want to Believe: The Hunt for Bigfoot Part 2 (2021)

Acclaimed paranormal podcaster Shannon LeGro and renowned cryptozoologist Ken Gerhard provide background research and insight in this episode, which follows the We Want to Believe team on an expedition to a remote lake. Guided by an avid outdoorsman who’s experienced wood knocks at the location year after year, Jason, Shawn and Marcus hope to capture evidence of Bigfoot communication on film. Along the way they must contend with dense forest, leaky boats, and a potential encounter with the creature itself! Writer/director statement: I’ve enjoyed every investigation We Want to Believe has been on, but I don’t think any of them has been this much fun to film. A long, slow drive up a mountain to the middle of nowhere, a tough trek through mud and bugs to a remote lake, and then trying not to drown while boating to the alleged spot where the wood knocks were heard. This was an absolute blast to shoot! And to have Shannon and Ken provide background on the phenomena was icing on the cake. ...

We Want to Believe: Bigfoot Hunt Part 1 (2021)

When you’re a paranormal investigation show filming smack dab in the middle of Bigfoot country, it makes sense to go on a Bigfoot hunt.  And that’s exactly what the We Want to Believe team do in this, the first of a three-part adventure that finds the team in search of The Hide and Seek Champion of the World!  In this introductory episode, writer/director Jason Hewlett explores the Bigfoot legend, its origins, and why the topic fascinates him. He and investigator Sarah Jane join Chris Bose, and Indigenous storyteller who’s steeped in Bigfoot lore, on an outing where he describes a terrifying encounter he had with the creature, setting the stage for the hunt to come! Writer/director statement: Growing up in Bigfoot country, I’ve been fascinated by stories about the monster since I was a boy. Episodes of In Search of and Arthur C. Clarke’s Mysterious World which feature Sasquatch warranted repeated viewing, and I bought and read whatever books I could on the subject. When Indige...

We Want to Believe: The Barn Psychics and 5-0

Peter, Jason and Sarah's investigation of the allegedly haunted barn is interrupted, not by spirits, but by the police when a passing motorist mistakes the film crew for active shooters! Once that investigative first is out of the way, Peter calls in psychic Jennifer Nash to help the team figure out who -- or what -- is responsible for the mysterious droplets that plague Dee and haunt... The Barn! Writer/director/creator Jason Hewlett has this to say about the latest episode: Just when I thought The Barn investigation couldn't get any weirder, the police showed up! Even Peter, who has pretty much seen it all in this field, was taken aback by this. How we resolve this encounter, you just have to watch. Peter brining in psychic Jennifer Nash took me by surprise, as Peter doesn't put much stock in what psychics and mediums have to say (nor do I). But he has complete faith in her abilities, and what Jennifer gleaned from The Barn, and how it relates to Dee, certainly added to t...

John Fallon produced Sweet Pain acquired by Leomark Studios

It's been a while since we talked about the Giallo-inspired thriller Sweet Pain, AKA Dolorosa Giola, a film I quite enjoyed, as this review attests. But we've got some good news for Gonzalo Lopez's flick, which had a successful theatrical run in its country of origin, Spain. Co-produced by John Fallon via his Bruise Productions, Sweet Pain will now hit North American screens thanks to Leomark Studios, which recently acquired the film. Congrats to all involved on that one! In the words of Lopez himself: "Our thriller, Sweet Pain, was actually loosely inspired by the tragic life of Renaissance music composer Carlo Gesualdo. Our story is set in the present day though. Given the subject matter, we have decided not to use dialogue to strengthen the universal theme of our story. As a result, the imagery and music is the language we use to tell our tale. By taking such a bold direction, the road to a North American release has been a challenging one, and I'm ela...
