Captain America: The Winter Soldier is definitely entertaining, with solid acting and an engaging plot. However, it's nothing you've never seen before. Cap is finally a more interesting character though, so that's a plus.
I liked the action, but there were no real set pieces that blew me away. It was, for the most part, fairly grounded and not full of unbelievable CG like some more recent Marvel movie. Hey, Thor 2 and Iron Man 3, what's up?
The direction was solid, although workmanlike. I appreciated a more practical approach to much of the action, but once again "shaky cam" and quick-cut edits hinder much of what's going on and make it difficult to comprehend what's happening. It's not nearly as bad as what's in many action movies these days, but could have been better.
As for the plot, if that's why you go to comic book movies, it gets too convoluted by the end, but at least it attempts to make some sense, even if it doesn't entirely succeed. Hello again, Iron Man 3 and Thor 2.
Overall, it's a pretty good time, and you'll be entertained even if it doesn't quite achieve greatness. I will say, though, it's definitely the best of the Phase 2 Marvel movies so far, so that's something.
A Good. Now, bring on Guardians of the Galaxy!
