Ang Lee takes on the Tyrant!

I'm sure you would love to see the Oscar-winning director go mano et mano with some big, mustached dictator- who wouldn't?  Unfortunately, that's now quite what's happening.

Ang Lee- who recently won Oscars for his work on "The Life of Pi" will be tackling a TV pilot for  a series called, "Tyrant".

The synopsis given for the series is pretty basic, and doesn't really give much insight into it:

An ordinary American family gets caught up in the affairs of a turbulent Middle Eastern nation.

The US cable channel, FX will begin shooting the show this summer, and chose Ang as the pilot's director because:
"Ang Lee has demonstrated time and time again an ability to present characters with such depth and specificity that they reveal the universal human condition"
-John Landgraf, FX president

Lee is also well known for such movies as "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon", "Sense and Sensibility", "Brokeback Mountain", and the 2003 release of "Hulk".

This series has the potential to either be really good and dramatic... or really piss off people of Middle Eastern descent.  I also have to wonder if he'll get VFX house Rythm and Hues to do the effects...
