I've never read James Patterson's Alex Cross books, but I am familiar with the previous film adaptations in the series, Kiss the Girls and Along Came A Spider starring Morgan Freeman.
Given that Girls and Spider came on the heels of Freeman's success with Se7en, it made sense that those films would focus on the serial killer/profiler aspect of the Cross books. The preview for Alex Cross below looks like a big-scale action movie. Again, I have no idea if that's what the novel, Cross, is like or not, but the trailer looks kinda badass.
After Washington DC detective Alex Cross is told that a family member has been murdered, he vows to track down the killer. He soon discovers that she was not his first victim and that things are not what they seem.
Tyler Perry, best known for his Madea movies, plays Cross. The bad guy here is Matthew Fox of Lost fame, and he is barely recognizable in the roll. The directing duties have been handed to Rob Cohen, who is no stranger to action with The Fast and the Furious and XXX.
This could be good, or it could be complete pap. We'll know more when Alex Cross opens on Oct. 19.

Sorry to judge before ALL the facts are in guys but this paragraph and everything in it:

Let me know that this could possibly be the worst idea ever short of having Perry as Madea turn up in one scene as Cross's crazy aunt.
Tyler Perry - Aghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
Matthew Fox - ZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzz
and the director of XXX making a detective picture
I will be avoiding this like the plague and yes I am a judgemental prick hahahaha
Ha ha! I can honestly say I've never seen a Tyler Perry movie, ever. I heard the original lineup for this had Idris Elba as Cross and David Twohy directing, which would have been more interesting I'm sure.
ReplyDeleteBig fan of the Alex Cross books and loved Morgan Freeman in the role previously. That is in fact who I picture as I read the stories and it just fits. Tyler Perry is new to me having never seen the Madea flicks so I am afraid I may go into this with a bias. I will give it an honest try though as I am a big Matthew Fox fan (*sigh*)and he looks crazy creepy in the trailer. Here's hoping!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting! That's all fans can do when they approach an adaptation -- hope!
