B. Harrison Smith returns to The Basement

Seven years ago we dedicated an entire month to the movie 6 Degrees of Hell, an ahead-of-its-time haunted attraction flick starring Corey Feldman. We interviewed the entire cast, the director and the film's writer, B. Harrison Smith. We consider ourselves lucky to have befriended Harrison. Not only is he a talented filmmaker, and decent guy, but he opened the door to other interviews, which is something Shawn and I always appreciate. Harrison has gone on to direct such genre films as Zombie Killers, Camp Dread and Death House, and work with the likes of Kane Hodder, Tony Todd, and Eric Roberts. And he's got a new flick coming out called The Special, which we highlighted right here . It's best described as Fatal Attraction meets The Blob. If that doesn't sell you on the movie, I don't know what will. Shawn and I figured it was time to bring Harrison back on the show, and talk his career, the horror genre, and the state of the world in general. I had a great c...

6 Degrees and Hell scribe unleashes Camp Dread

Screenwriter Harrison Smith , who penned Corey Feldman 's horror romp -- and our Month from Hell selection -- 6 Degrees of Hell and the crackerjack thriller The Fields is at it again. This time Smith does double duty as writer and director of the slasher flick Camp Dread.

Jason versus The Monster Squad

Yeah, I've been reviewing a lot of flicks from my youth lately. The Last Starfighter, The Black Hole, and now The Monster Squad. Being one who over thinks things, I wonder if I'm having a belated mid-life crisis. Or maybe I just feel like watching some old movies? Stick with me! Dracula is alive. In fact, he plans to rule the world and that is why he seeks the help of other legendary monsters. However, a bunch of kids regarded by their peers as losers uncover the devious plan and prepare for a counter strike.  The Monster Squad pretty much bombed when it came out, but it's well regarded among genre buffs as a classic of the 80s. This is when kids' movies had mild profanity, bloody violence, showed a girl in her bra and panties, and even mentioned whether or not she's a virgin. And yes, parents were OK with this. Oh, how I miss those days. Nostalgia aside, The Monster Squad doesn't hold up as well as Starfighter and Black Hole. It's still a decen...

Mike S tweets The Goonies

Once a week our mad twit Mike S from the Corner of Terror will shanghai The Basement's Twitter account and tweet along to a non- horror movie , all for your Internet pleasure. Cool, yes!?! We think so.   For his latest foray into film criticism at 140 characters or less, The S opts to revisit Richard Donner 's 1985 comedy/adventure The Goonies starring Corey Feldman and that kid who played Short Round in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom . Read on, brave web nerd! Mike S here to tweet along to # TheGoonies tonight since last night's attempt with # ShortCircuit was such a mess... The bunks in the jail cell at the beginning of the movie remind me of some of army bunks I've slept on... # TheGoonies   I wonder what movie is playing on the TV during the opening car chase. Anybody know? # TheGoonies   And cue THE Corey fucking Feldman- 1980's movie icon... # TheGoonies   Whenever I see Ke Huy Quan (Data), I can't help but remember him as Shor...

Jason and Shawn versus 6 Degrees of Hell and Gut

6 Degrees of Hell Jason: I'm of two minds on 6 Degrees of Hell. On the plus side, it's a fun horror ride with a cool concept and batshit crazy conclusion when, well, all hell essentially breaks loose. There's some groovy stuff that goes on in this flick. I really like the Hotel of Horror, and the thought of being trapped in a creepy amusement park ride that suddenly comes to life is frightening. On the down side, screenwriter Harrison Smith is trying to do too much. There's too many characters, flashbacks within flashbacks, and unnecessary plot points. This is a case where less would have been more. And too bad the budget was low, because this is a movie that screamed for more blood and gore. As for Corey Feldman, he's this film's Sam Loomis, only with less to do. He spends the movie talking with a cop and, although I liked those scenes a lot, I wanted more of him. There should be a Kyle Brenner movie! Fans of his might be disappointed, because he ...

6 Degrees of Hell and Gut

Like Nero said in a deleted scene from J.J. Abrams Star Trek reboot, "The wait is over." How's that for random geek porn!?! But the wait IS over, as Jason and Shawn sound off on their Month from Hell entry 6 Degrees of Hell. That's right, the Basement Dwellers have finally watched the alleged Scariest Movie of 2012 starring THAT Corey Feldman. The question now is how does a film that the duo hyped sight unseen stack up? Stick with us! Then, submitted for the approval of the Basement Dwellers by writer/director Elias, is Gut -- a psychological thriller about two friends who become addicted to a snuff film. Some have called Gut slow and too subtle, others have praised it for being a low-budget movie with depth. Now it's time for Jason and Shawn to give their two cents. Plus Mike S. takes a break from being The Basement's official twit to provide tonight's episode with a movie review of his own. This time he turns his sites on the horror sequel Urban ...

An interview with Corey Feldman: The Halloween Spooktacular 3

The Lost Boys. Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter. Stand By Me. The Goonies. License to Drive. Dream A Little Dream. All classic movies of the 1980s. All of them star Corey Feldman. Corey started his career in TV, and is best known for his string of 80s movie blockbusters, but he's sustained a career in Hollywood for more than 35 years as an actor and singer. The star's own words say it best: he's more than a movie star, he's an icon. Tonight, Jason and Shawn bring The Month from Hell to a close with a 15-minute chat with 6 Degrees of Hell star Corey Feldman. And it becomes very clear very quickly how enthusiastic he is about director Joe Raffa and screenwriter Harrison Smith's horror film. The bulk of the conversation is about 6 Degrees of Hell, but Corey also touches on his earlier work. It's a great interview with a legend of the 80s, and one no movie fan wants to miss. As is the tradition with The Basement's annual Halloween Spooktacular, Jason a...

A second look at Six Degrees of Hell

October is little more than two months away, which means our Season Four kickoff is ever closer. And with that comes The Month from Hell. Below is the new trailer for the film at the core of The Month from Hell -- Six Degrees of Hell. Touted as the scariest movie of this year, director Joe Raffa and writer Harrison Smith spin a yarn about a paranormal investigator retracing the steps of a friend who has gone missing against the backdrop of horrific events at a creepy hotel . The movie sounds great, and the trailer below hints that the final film will be winner. As for The Month from Hell: we interviewed Raffa, Smith and stars Nicole Cinaglia and Brian Gallagher and have one more interview scheduled at the end of August. All of these will be rolled out when the show returns in October, just in time for Six Degrees of Hell's release. Until then, watch and enjoy the trailer!

Beware . . . The Month From Hell!

When a movie promotes itself as the scariest of 2012, Basement Dwellers like Shawn and I take notice. Which is why it became our mission to land an interview with someone involved in the upcoming horror film Six Degrees of Hell. Six Degrees has been featured on the site before, and we even had a story promoted on one of the actor's *Cough . . . Corey Feldman . . .Cough* official web page. T he premise of director Joe Raffa and writer Harrison Smith's film has promise: Feldman is Kyle Brenner, a paranormal investigator retracing the steps of a friend and associate who has gone among the missing against the backdrop of horrific events at a creepy hotel. Check this, today we interviewed Raffa, Smith and stars Nicole Cinaglia and Brian Gallagher and have one more interview scheduled at the end of August. All of these will be rolled out when the show returns in October, just in time for Six Degrees of Hell's release. So it's only fitting that October will be T...

Teaser trailer arrives for alleged scariest movie of 2012

A movie's got a lot of stones when it claims it's going to be the scariest of any given year months before it even comes out. But that's what the makers of Six Degrees of Hell have done. We first wrote about the film here , and are now proud to bring you official footage with the below teaser trailer. Some would attest the presence of Corey Feldman makes the movie scary enough. But the premise of director Joe Raffa and writer Harrison Smith's film has promise: Feldman is Kyle Brenner, a paranormal investigator retracing the steps of a friend and associate who has gone among the missing against the backdrop of horrific events at a creepy hotel. The hotel in question is the very real and supposedly very haunted Lake House Hotel of Horror in Sayorsburg, PA. As for the trailer, it doesn't show much but does build a nice intensity toward the end. We in The Basement will see Six Degrees of Hell, but will hold off on further comment until a full-length trailer surf...

Corey Feldman turns up in stills from Six Degrees of Hell

News has been bouncing around the web for weeks now about the new horror flick Six Degrees of Hell, which has already proclaimed the title of Scariest Movie of 2012. We'll be the judge of that, director Joe Raffa and writer Harrison Smith. But the film does have the neat twist of actually being filmed at the Lake House Hotel of Horror in Sayorsburgh, PA, a location that is rumoured to be haunted. And it stars Corey Feldman, who is no stranger to any of us who grew up in the 1980s. Remember The Lost Boys? Feldman leads the cast as Kyle Brenner, a paranormal investigator retracing the steps of a friend and associate who has gone among the missing against the backdrop of horrific events at a creepy hotel. Jill Whelon, Brian Anthony Wilson and Susan Moses round out the cast. The still below doesn't show much other than Feldman, who hasn't aged a day since the 80s. I'd like to reach into the picture and cut off that one strand of hair though. As for the film, sound...
