Wednesday is here again, and with it a new drink on the bartop. Join me for a tip and sip as I shake myself up a Rob Roy.
All you need to make this drink is 1 1/2 ounce of Scotch (such as Glenfiddich) and 3/4 cups Vermouth. Shake them together in a shaker filled with ice, and pour into a glass.
This is a drink that is super smooth in it's flavor. Using Glenfiddich, this drink had a nice earthy taste to it. I really quite liked the light wood and peat notes that blended nicely with the sweet Vermouth. The two combined to create a relaxing balance of tastes. You can use a drier Vermouth if you'd like a more martini texture to the drink.
I was really quite pleased with how the Rob Roy turned out, and the way it maintained its smoothness from start to finish.
I would consider this a drink suitable for small social gatherings with friends, rather than a one you'd order at a bar. I could also see myself making this at home for a night in as I sat by the fireplace relaxing.
The simplicity of this drink belies the soft depths, and the warmth of the ingredients. It's a nice, subtle beverage to relax with. To be honest, I would having this while puffing on my pipe. I'm putting it in "The Good".
