The Basement repeats

What's cooler than hearing From The Basement on the radio? Getting to hear it on the radio twice! That's right, not only will new episodes of From The Basement broadcast just after the six o'clock news on Friday nights, but they'll repeat on Sunday mornings starting this week! Granted, the episodes have a 6 A.M. start time, so you'll have to be an early riser to catch it, if you didn't tune in on Friday night that is. But there's lots of people up and at them on Sunday mornings, so The Powers That Be are confident folks will tune in. What about the podcast, you ask? That medium that got us into the game to begin with? Never fear! The podcast version of Friday's show (and now Sunday's as well) drops on Monday morning as usual. A gentle reminder; Season 2 of From The Basement on Radio NL 610 AM Kamloops kicks off this Friday, at 6:05 in the P.M. Stick with us!

Release dates for The Mandalorian Season 2, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and WandaVision

Hold on tight, Baby Yoda fans, the second season of The Mandalorian is coming at us sooner than we anticipated. Disney + confirmed today The Mandalorian Season 2 will land on the streaming services in October. This is a month ahead of the one-year anniversary of the show's successful launch this past November. No, the exact date hasn't been confirmed, but it will likely be a Friday. So just eight months to go for more great Star Wars. But what about the much touted Marvel shows The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and WandaVision, which were teased during a spot on the Super Bowl on Sunday? Well, they're coming in 2020 as well. Falcon and the Winter Soldier will debut in August, ahead of the previously announced Fall 2020 launch. WandaVision will premiere in December. With some 26.5 million subscribers locked in its first three months, these programs will only add to Disney +'s fanbase. And no, they didn't pay me to say that. What say you? You excited for...

Further proof streaming is winning the movie war

Entertainment Weekly got their grubby little hands (we mean that with the utmost respect) on the latest audience numbers for Netflix, a company historically tight lipped about their ratings, and the results are... not all that surprising. Not all that surprising, AND they confirm something Shawn and I have suspected for a long time -- people would rather stay home to watch quality content than go to a movie theatre. While most of the data supported Netflix's series, the viewership was revealed for Michael Bay and Ryan Reynold's action flick 6 Underground. The movie, which got much love from us in The Basement, was viewed by 83 million accounts within its first month of release. To put that in box-office perspective, the average price of a movie ticket in Canada is $12.99. So do the math, and 6 Underground would have made approximately $1 billion! That's a lot of coin, and on par with Avengers: Endgame, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, Black Panther and other huge ...

An evening with Apple TV Plus

I was pretty stoked for Apple TV Plus. The new streaming service had enticed the likes of Jason Momoa, Francis Lawrence, Steven Spielberg, Reese Witherspoon, M. Night Shyamalan and more. Apple is also pretty reliable when it comes to creating a good product, and at $5.99 a month, the price was right. So I sat down the other night and decided to give a couple of shows a try, starting with See, the epic new sci-fi series starring Momoa and directed by Lawrence. I dig their work, I dig science fiction, and I'm all about the epic. "Bring it on," I said. The show sucked! I'm usually more than willing to suspend my disbelief, but I couldn't accept a world where a virus had wiped out most humans, and rendered the survivors blind. Nor could I accept, even after a hundred years or so, these blind people could survive in the wild, build shacks to live in -- not to mention some nifty, medieval looking clothing -- and wage tribal warfare on each other. You read that...

So say we all...again; Battlestar: Galactica lives... again

The headline says it all. With the streaming wars in full swing between Netflix, Disney, Apple and CBS, the Peacock network, otherwise known as NBC, is getting into the game. They're bringing back their beloved franchise from the late 70s to help fight the battle... Battlestar: Galactica. Because everything that's old is new again, obviously. Did you know Battlestar: Galactica was previously, and successfully, rebooted on SyFy from 2004 to 2009? Little is known about the latest incarnation, other than Mr. Robot showrunner Sam Esmail is involved, and the series takes place within the same universe as the 2004-2009 run. I grew up with the original Galactica, and enjoyed the 2000s redo very much. I don't know how much I can give a shit the third time around, but I'll try. We're curious to see how the streaming wars play out. Disney has Star Wars, Apple has Jason Momoa's new series, and CBS has Star Trek. The NBC service, which is called Peacock, debuts Ap...

Full Moon Entertainment was the bomb back in the 90s. They offered a plethora of genre entertainment that, although straight to video, never lacked in quality or quantity. Now Charles Band and company take things to the next level with their new streaming channel and app, Full Moon Features , which is currently available on all streaming devices including iOS, Google Play, Xbox One, Apple TV and more.
