Robots kick monster ass in this Pacific Rim trailer

I've avoided discussing the latest Guillermo del Toro epic simply because I wanted to have some footage to put what is literally one of the most bad to the ass movie ideas ever in context. Monster have come to Earth. We've built giant robots to fight them with. Cue action. Now Warner Bros. has put out a trailer for the upcoming summer blockbuster, and holy shit fuck, as Basement Contributor Matt Bellamy would say. Or maybe it was holy shit wow. Either way. Holy shit! This looks great. Simply great. We've got monsters, giant robots and combat. What more could one ask for in a blockbuster? Boobs. Well, everything is better with boobs. You read that here first. Pacific Rim stars Charlie Hunnam, Ron Perlman, Idris Elba, giant robots, and a bunch of monsters. It opens July 12, and my ass will be there. Now watch this epic shit! Kudos to Warner Bros. UK for the preview.

Man becomes machine in The Prototype

Sci-fi/action movies about killer robots are nothing new, nor are ones that explore the theme of man's relationship with machines. The Terminator and Robocop films are just the tip of the iceberg on the subject. With that in mind, writer/director Andrew Will's The Prototype doesn't mine much new ground: humanoid military robot escapes top-secret facility and is hunted by the government. But the footage below is mighty impressive, suggesting a hybrid of District 9 and The Bourne Identity. There's also a nice balance of philosophy and action, all on a rumoured $40-million budget. The Bandito Brothers flick stars Neal McDonough, Joseph Mawle and Anna Anissimova. No word on when The Prototype hits theatres, but it's scheduled for release some time in 2013. The Basement is going to keep its collective eyes open for this bad boy!

Real Steel: Micro Review

Ever thought it would be cool to have real life sized "Rock em Sock em" robots?  How about not only life size, but bigger than life, and under your explicit control? Well here they are. Hugh Jackman is a pretty diverse dude.  From Wolverine to Broadway. And pretty much everything in between.  This included. This is a "feel good" family movie.  Although, my five year old did get in trouble for the "LEFT, RIGHT, UPPERCUT" display at school. This is a technically perfect movie, and with an almost Disneyesque feel, crossed with any Rocky movie.  However, it does have huge robots that box each other until they destroy their opponent.  The technology for something like this has been around for a while, so while it presents nothing new, it only perfects the effects needed to pull this off. I have been holding off from watching this movie because I have heard that it is story heavy.  I don't really like to think about the story, but this presents w...

Humans Vs zombies Vs robots

So do we call it Night of the Living Dead meets Real Steel? Ish? Now in pre-production from AFM, writer/director Christopher Hatton is bringing sci-fi/horror fans the latest monster mash, and it actually sounds promising. Battle of the Damned takes place following a viral outbreak at some kind of remote facility where a group of survivors find themselves fighting against the vicious infected masses and a band of rogue prototype robots. Better through a Hardware reference in there for good measure. All kidding aside, if this has buckets of blood thrown into the mix and some boobies, then we've got ourselves a party. No word yet on who is in it. And the film is slated for release some time next year. We'll keep you posted!

Teaser trailer for Transformers 3 lands on the net

I'm having a hard time drumming up much enthusiasm for Michael Bay's third Transformers flick. For one, it's the third movie. And the second one wasn't all that great. But still, it's a Transformers movie, so we'll pay it some respect by posting the teaser trailer below. In kind of a nice touch, the trailer takes place in the past during the first moon landing. The plot itself has to do with Autobots and Decepticons duking it out over something. Being a Michael Bay movie, stuff will blow up. Tranformers: Dark of the Moon, hits theatres July 1.

Get your mind blown with this new Sucker Punch trailer!

Some days it's tough to find interesting things to share with our fellow Basement Dwellers. On days like this, it's not. Below is the second preview for Zack Snyder's Sucker Punch, and it threatens to melt minds and eyeballs with rampant coolness. Not only is it even more fantastic to look at than the previous trailer, but it shares some of the story too. Yes, there is a story, which is as follows: a young girl is institutionalized by her wicked stepfather. Retreating to an alternative reality as a coping strategy, she envisions a plan which will help her escape from the facility. Sounds very Cinderella, only with ninjas, dragons, robots and hot babes kicking all kinds of ass. Not unlike a certain Jason Statham we talked about yesterday. Consider us sold. Sucker Punch stars Emily Browning, Abbie Cornish, Jena Malone, and Vanessa Hudgens. Currently in post production, the film is set to land in theaters in March 2011. Until then, feast on the awesomeness below! ...
