Sunday Night at the Movies: Lake Mungo

Lake Mungo is one of those horror movies I'd heard a lot of buzz about but had a hard time getting my mitts on. Of all the diamonds in the rough Shawn and I have sought out during our six seasons, this was one of the hardest diamonds to find. Yet I was determined. So I spent a considerable amount of coin purchasing this flick for the simple pleasure of seeing what all the fuss is about. Can a pseudo documentary about the ghost of a dead girl live up to the hype? Stick with me!

Jason versus/endures The Apparition

After a night out at the pub with bros I like nothing better than to come home, crack a wind-down beer, and catch a scary movie. There are times when I find an old gem to watch, discover a new diamond in the rough, or pass out to an unspectacular piece of drivel. Then there are movies like The Apparition .

Citadel and The Awakening

Comin' at yah from across the pond -- a little corner of the globe where people know a thing or two about scary stories -- come two tales guaranteed to put the FEAR into you. First up is Ciaran Foy's movie about an agoraphobic father who teams up with a renegade priest to save his daughter from the clutches of a gang of twisted feral children who committed an act of violence against his family years earlier. Scared yet? You should be. Then The Basement Dwellers travel back in time to 1921 England as hoax exposer Florence Cathcart visits a boarding school to explain sightings of a child ghost. OK. Now you're scared, right? Right!?!? Plus, Jason and Shawn take a few moments of their not-so-precious time to talk about movies that should be remade. That's right, there are a few flicks out there that could stand to be retooled a little bit, and the Basementites are going to tell you what they are. So tune in at 10 p.m. PST at 92.5FM CFBX Kamloops and on...

Get punked by this ghostly elevator prank

This has absolutely sweet fuck all to do with movies, but it is right up our alley here in The Basement. And seriously, who doesn't want to watch people get freaked out by a ghost in an elevator. Or at least get freaked out by what they THINK is a ghost in an elevator. The video comes by way of the Brazilian variety show Programa Silvio Santos and starts with a person walking into an elevator. Suddenly the elevator stops, the lights go off and, without the passenger knowing, a girl looking like the creepy chick from The Ring crawls in via a side panel. When the lights come back on, either she screams or the passenger screams, and a few emotional scars are created. Gotta admit, I laughed a lot. Totally makes sense that this thing is going viral. We'll be back with some movie news shortly.
