Supernatural Nazi horror film The House hits North America in March

Anyone who thinks North American filmmakers have cornered the market on horror need to think again. There's a pool of talent making some damn fire horror in Europe, but we don't always get to see it. Case in point is the Norwegian flick The House, which was made in 2016, and is just now hitting our shores thanks to the folks at Artsploitation Films.

Review: Overlord

A movie about Nazi zombies -- or Nazbies as I like to call them -- isn't what you'd expect Hollywood to release on the Remembrance Day weekend, but I'm glad they did. Why? The world needed a respectable Nazbie movie; one that takes place during the Second World War, on the eve of D-Day, which was called Operation: Overlord, hence this Nazbie movie's title. Longest run-on sentence in history. Doubtful. But I'll get there...

Nazi zombies attack in Overlord trailer

For some reason, the whole idea of Nazi zombies just doesn't get old. It was used to great -- and some times comedic -- effect in two Dead Snow movies. And now J.J. Abrams is bringing the scares and gore in the upcoming period horror flick Overlord. Overlord, for the record, was the code name for the D-Day invasion of Normandy by Allied troops in World War 2. Just so you get the reference here.

Jason versus The Prowler

Joseph Zito's The Prowler is one of those cult film's of the early 1980s that has garnered a reputation as must-see cinema for horror aficionados. It's got a reputation as a violent, gory entry in the slasher genre, with primo effects by the one and only Tom Savini. Was it worth coming down off the mountain for? Stick with me! A masked killer, wearing World War II U.S. Army fatigues, stalks a small New Jersey town bent on reliving a 35-year-old double murder by focusing on a group of college kids holding an annual Spring Dance. Let's cut to the chase -- this is good shit. Sure, it's derivative of other slasher movies. But, looking back, it was one of the first of its kind. Calling The Prowler derivative is like calling John Carpenter's Halloween derivative -- stupid! This flick helped set the bar in terms of formula and graphic kills. I respect it for that. About those kills; they're pretty damn realistic. Effects genius Tom Savini makes the murder...

The final, and best, Captain America trailer arrives

And it's a chill-inducing, smile-creating gem. More action. More Hugo Weaving. More Tommy Lee Jones. More Howling Commandos. More music by Tool. This is going to be THE summer movie to see in my opinion. A period comic book adventure that, as far as this trailer is concerned, has the heart and tone of an old-school action picture. Think Raiders of the Lost Ark with a super hero. Sold! But why not watch the trailer for yourselves and sound off!

Witness the first Avenger

Those of you who were lucky enough to catch the Super Bowl (damn you localized snowstorm!) on Sunday also caught a glimpse of the Big Game teaser for the Captain America movie. I didn't get to watch the preview until late yesterday and was blown away by the footage. It has an old-school vibe befitting the World War 2 era and appears to have captured the feel of the original Captain America comics. I like how Chris Evans comes across both pre-super serum and after. It's great to see The Howling Commandos make an appearance and who doesn't dig the brief glimpse we get of The Red Skull? Naturally, we must hold our excitement in check pending the film's release this summer. But my anticipation level has ramped up considerably for Captain America. The movie is due out July 22.

A good look at The First Avenger in action

Empire magazine has scored a bunch of pics from the upcoming Captain America: The First Avenger and we've decided to be lazy and post one of them here. Hey, it's the web. We can do that. I'm actually looking forward to this flick and think Chris Evans is the perfect choice for Cap. He's a good actor, he looks all American and the costume suits him. Any doubts? Look below. The film is also set during World War 2, which is tres cool. Directed by Joe Johnston, the action adventure also stars Hayley Atwell and Hugo Weaving as The Red Skull. It hits theatres July 22.
