Veteran of the Star Wars: "Solo: A Star Wars Story" (2018)

It's time to jump into the cockpit of our Corellian freighter, and do the run to a galaxy far far away in under 12 parsecs... Han is a young man trying to find a way to escape a life of crime on a corrupt planet.  After a job gone wrong, the woman he loves is captured, and he's forced to join the Imperial Forces to escape. Soon, however, young Han Solo begins a journey to become the one thing he never wanted to be... the good guy... The story is actually quite good.  I loved that- as fitting the character, they went with a Western sort of tone.  The plot progressed smoothly, and fairly quickly.  I found there was a wonderful balance of humour, action, and drama that didn't feel forced, and felt very much in keeping with the general personalities of the characters involved.  While the movie started out slowly, it picked up speed, and I found myself fully engaged, and enjoying myself. " Solo: A Star Wars Story " did a great job of capturing the spirit o...

Zombieland double taps Maleficent

It's sequel weekend at the movies this... well, weekend. And Jason and Howie are gonna tell you all about it when From The Basement takes to the Radio NL 610 AM Morning News at 7:20. Jay's also got a new interview for fans. This time he talks with scream queen Trista Robinson about her new horror flick Echoes of Fear, which is making the theatrical rounds as well speak. As always, you'll hear a few minutes of their conversation this morning, then the whole thing appears when the extended cut podcast drops later today. As for those movies; there's the much-anticipated Zombieland: Double Tap with Woody Harrelson and Emma Stone, and Angelina Jolie brings her bad self back for Maleficent: Mistress of Evil. One of those has to appeal to someone! So grab your morning coffee, tune in via the AM dial or the streaming link to your right, and settle yourself in, we're waiting for you... in The Basement! Is Jessica Chastain on for True Detective Season 2?

Just a quick bit of he said, she said for you on this Thursday morn, as rumours out of Hollywood report  Zero Dark Thirty actress, and all around hottie,  Jessica Chastain has been offered a lead role in the second season of  HBO's  brilliant True Detective . Naturally, the award winning actress's peeps deny any involvement in the acclaimed series, but this is nothing new. A deal is often denied until the ink is dry and the cash is in the account.

Zombieland TV series headed for Amazon.com

That's right peeps, we might not be getting a sequel to the rather brilliant Zombieland , we're going to get a TV series instead. But it won't be a network series, oh no. This mother is going the On Demand route. Seems Amazon .com is trying to compete with Eli Roth 's Netflix original series Hemlock Grove by jump starting the Zombieland project. No word yet on who's in it or when we'll see it, but each 30-minute episode will follow the adventures of a group of survivors who band together during the zombie apocalypse. Unless you've been living under a rock, the Zombieland movie starred Woody Harrelson , Jessie Eisenberg, Abigail Breslin and the lovely Emma Stone , all of whom are pictured above. The verdict is still out on whether Netflix or Amazon can sustain a series like this, but I say go for it. VOD is the wave of the future, and I'd love to see these sites produce good, original content until the cows come home. Source: iO9 Related...

Shawn enters ZOMBIELAND and eats some SOYLENT GREEN

As I continue the countdown to the Mayan apocalypse, I must incorporate a zombie franchise or two. Zombieland became an INSTANT classic. How does this happen? Good chemistry + Bill Murray death scene = EPIC Then toss in the zombies and zombie kills of the week. Woody Harrelson is badass, Emma Stone is hot and Jesse Eisenberg is ...well ..nerdy.  Nothing unexpected there. For a movie to just show up, tackle a tired genre, breathe it new life and become an instant hit with genre lovers?  That is worth seeing at least once. I've seen it a few...dozen times...haha. Never tiring. Definitely a Good if The Basement were to toss a rating on this end times dessert. Since I missed my countdown movie yesterday, I'll do two today, and continue tomorrow. You can't talk about world-ending events without Charlton Heston.  Of all the "end of the world" movies, Heston was involved in, I chose Soylent Green. In real life, Heston was a gun supporting, bug out...

The Month of Horror Day 28: Zombieland

Basement contributor Matt Bellamy has taken it upon himself to watch and review at least one horror movie a day for the month of October . . . because he's awesome that way! For tonight's edition Bellamy has to decide if it's nut up or shut up time. Perhaps more of a straight up comedy than a horror? You can make that argument but it has zombies in it, and it's pretty gory so... I'm saying it counts! Right off the bat, you know this movie is going to be awesome because we jump into some rules you really should abide by in order to survive the zombie apocalypse--limber up, double tap, always check the back seat, just to name a few! Jesse Eisenberg stars as the main character, a young geek (playing comfortably outside his usual roles *cough*), on a journey trying to cross several hundred miles of dangerous and undead landscape to reach his parents who it turns out are actually most like...
